Thanks for your helpful reply. I didn’t know that the wield fire delay was so small. Do you know if it’s the same for the marine shotgun, for the sake of considering LV-522? Do you know the exact time it takes to burrow, by the way? I think it could be helpful for the sake of considering human factors (lag, pick-up time (albeit, pick up macro should be used) and reaction time).
You do have a valid point, I think I might have phrased it poorly by using the word meta, and mentioning that it happened to me. I’ll consider that for next time, thanks very much!
Every time I see this happen ingame, everyone either runs away and leaves the one guy to get mauled by the burrower or the burrower dies instantly and is combo’d by a gorillion people.
Burrowers have never really been a problem for me personally, (this is the first time I hear of the meta) and I dont recall having any experience similar to yours, although I have played on the other side with a metabuddy and did the exact same thing (a while ago though, but its really funny when it works)
Also take what im saying with a grain of salt right now but, I dont think the game needs to have anything to do with survivors developmentwise. Survivors are such a small part of the game and reflecting a xenomorph cast through survivor role sounds like a bad idea. Survivor is a relatively small role with a small-ish playerbase, and its like that because the role can be either brainrot inducing, hilariously funny, or just straight up out of your control. There isnt much balance that needs to be done at all for survivors vs xenos, because you’re supposed to be on the losing side anyways.
There are some really smug ass replies in this thread, the issue is that CC has basically no shotguns so the burrower is almost entirely free to cycle burrow stun, and the popular hold locations on CC are tiny meaning there really isn’t any guess work. Lack of guess work goes for nearly every survivor hold.
Sure, of course survivors are an afterthought, but that doesn’t mean they should be neglected completely. A tech like this would be basically meaningless against the marines, since they’ve a whole horde of marines to deal enough damage in time, IFF, underbarrel shotguns, sniper, flamers, etc etc
Entirely ignoring survivors as a role on purpose is not only damaging to a unique and good role, but entirely pointless when the changes being made to benefit them wouldn’t affect the rest of the game.
I think you have the wrong mindset about survivor.
If you think a “xeno caste” fucked your survivor round over then you should think over your tactics next time.
The role is about getting good and optimizing your time so you have lots of time to prepare.
In this instance you just didnt have a shotgun and that fucked you over. And instead of blaming yourself you are blaming the caste which is not even OP when theres someone with a shotgun around.
So dont be surprised if people are laughing at you and calling you “skill issue” when literally it is SKILL ISSUE. Next time just bring a shotgun instead of complaining in the forums. YOU can only blame yourself for losing a survivor round most of the time.
I’ve already explained that we did have a shotgun with slugs which was the perfect counter to this. I wasn’t aware that there was no wield delay on the shotgun, which made it obviously possible to hit the PB before the burrower burrows again. Were it such that there was, it would be more statistically convoluted.
I’m not blaming anyone, I’m not saying that it must be removed, I was and am trying to actually discuss it. This worked, we were able to (for the most part) have a discussion about this tactic, the technicalities of it and come to some valuable conclusions.
The issue is the OP points out chances claim which has as far as I can tell a total of 1 shotgun in the NE corner of the map behind a door you need to hit two switches around the colony to open. So unless you spawn with one you’re a bit out of luck with slugging it. Not even sure there are any slug shells now that I think about it.
Also don’t quote me but I think there is still the funny bug where if you wield a shotgun it’s still counted as one handed for a second or so which means even if you have a slug shotgun your accuracy goes to piss unless you PB which then the stomp allows the burrower to finish the cap or escape. So you gotta have one guy on complete burrower security (which could be fun of survs weren’t so stretched thin)
As for burrowers as a whole a plasma cost on the burrow and maybe a tiny cool-down (like half a second) would probably do the trick. I just wish I had more of a reason to play burrower before drop since all the round start tunnels are a thing, I usually don’t feel super helpful till the marines rock up and start metaing the tunnel spots.
With CC, there is a good chance for a CO to spawn. and if he does, he can just run to the phone backpack, and go dial in a REQ crate with armour and guns.
Tbh, I think thats a map specific issue, and one that the map should lean more into. Like say give the designator to the SL, and make them more dependant on the alamo to get gear, by removing some groundside.
