Synthetic Info:
Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:
Dorothy
What is your Synthetic’s Personality?
Dorothy is part of a now discontinued (due to low sales) line of caretaker synthetics. Dorothy specifically was a nanny before eventually being sold off. She’s pretty much the archetypical grandmother, both in appearance and in personality. Patient. Kind, with a penchant towards spoiling sometimes. The kind of person who constantly smells of good food and always gives warm hugs.
Her series of synthetics was discontinued soon after their initial release, due to a spectacular marketing blunder from Weyland-Yutani. In an attempt to appeal to poorer families the series used cheaper components, and majority of advertisements created were targeted towards people who despite the cost-cutting for production (and the removal of the ‘extra fees’ used to normally overprice synthetic units), now did not trust the new synthetic due to its suspiciously low price. The unsold units were sold at an even further discount in bulk orders to whoever would take them, in a desperate attempt to mitigate losses from the disastrous lack of sales.
How will they react to the different ranks of the USCM, what would they talk about in a one on one conversation? What are their interests? What is an advertisement logline that could be written for them?
Dorothy was designed as a caretaker for children. As such, her programming is to be as fair and treat everyone is equally as possible to avoid favoritism - while still taking orders from the true parents of a child. This was a surprisingly effective fit for the United States Colonial Marine Corps, with some slight modification. She treats rank as if it exists only for the purposes of her orders. Otherwise, everyone is treated equally.
In one on one conversations, Dorothy defaults to attempting to get others to talk about themselves. Failing that, she will tell stories about her first family. Many adults find her choices of conversation topics to be boring, unless they are interested in cooking, baking, and or astronomy.
Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I’ve been a player here off and on for about 6 and a half years, I believe my first ever login was early August 2018. I’ve scraped pretty heavily the lanes for roleplay over the years here, crazy shit to more grounded and realistic. Most of my roleplay was split between MP, CL, and Survivor. A lot of the time has died since to the database wipe so I have no clue how much I really spent and my documented hours are fairly meagre.
Last time I applied there was a lot of concern about the amount of time I spent in combat roles, and I imagine that’ll be the case this time too. It’s hard to vouch for somebody’s roleplay if you rarely see them do it. I’ve been making an effort recently, and have had a good amount of actual enjoyment in some shipside roleplay that happened - as fleeting as it was since I kept getting called back to medbay to fix fractures instead of engaging with whatever the hell was going on upstairs with the minor event CDC scientists. My hope is that it’ll be showcased during the period this app is up that I’m more than capable of roleplay.
I want a synth whitelist because it’s a type of roleplay that I haven’t had before, not on CM or anywhere else. I also find shipside roles sometimes boring on rounds where nothing is happening, while also loving the support element that surgery plays. Medics don’t get access to it though, so it’s frustrating either way. Synths get the option to deploy if they want, at least currently.
What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?
Most stuff tends to blend together in my head, but the one that comes to mind - barely, is one from about 2019. It was a weird CL round I had where someone had been spawning ‘shrimp’ that only I knew about. Naturally I got imprisoned and had a pretty lengthy discussion with a synthetic about my mental health. I don’t remember the name, on account of how long it’s been. I doubt they’d even still be around if I could recall.
Synthetic Character Story:
Non-Synthetic Pies: Rewrite - Google Docs - The original story I wrote for this application 5-ish months ago. Written as in-universe script for a commercial.
//INTERVIEW 0.17A - "DOROTHY SYNTHETIC"// - Google Docs - A secondary story, written very recently to meet a request to have more dialogue.
Skills:
Engineering:
Familiar, I know fully how to handle repairs on all machines (though I am a little rusty but it’d take me one try to unrust that skill). My weakness is cade placement to optimize effectiveness, but I would still say I’m better at it than half of the people who seem to be cading recent rounds I’ve played. I have not played OT, the gameplay never interested me.
Command:
Familiar, I have a fair amount of time in SO. I know how the overwatch consoles work. I have never run an operation.
Medical:
Very Familiar, I can do all surgeries well and by memory at this point. I do fumble sometimes due to missing keys or switching intents when I don’t mean to, but this loses at most a second. Chemistry is something that I tend to forget when I don’t touch it for a while, but you just read the wiki when you do and you’re fine. I can’t do research, but I was told that it wasn’t that important for a synth to know.
Requisitions:
Somewhat Familiar. Most of my Cargo hours were a very long time ago. I know all the abbreviations that people use for stuff from using them myself, and I know which vendors have which stuff. I know how the ASRS works. The only reason I don’t say familiar is because I have very few hours in it even though I’m almost positive I could do it just fine.
What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
Synthetic programming for combat generally just revolves around not abusing your insane health and durability. Basically, don’t kill xenos in most situations. The notable exceptions are
-
A life is directly being threatened, whether theirs or a marines. They may defend themselves if they are being attacked (A runner is trying to kill them because faketall bad), and they may defend marines if they have to. (The synth is attempting to save a PFC by dragging him up a ladder to safety, but a xeno is consistently attacking and pulling the marine to prevent them from being taken up the ladder.
-
Huggers are fair game if they’re near humans
-
An ENCLOSED fortified area’s cades are being attacked.
Final Info:
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?
No.
Are you currently banned from our Discord?
No.
Let us know why you were discord banned.
N/A
Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?
I was convinced to make this because the worst that could happen was a denial and I could reapply when I was planning to - which will be more than a month from now. The extra credit I can give to my roleplaying prowess is the fact that I have run and played in multiple TTRPGs for the past 5 years, and have thousands of hours in Roll20, a VTT software.
I know I’m not overly well known (despite 6-7 years of existing), and this app might be a little short - but I’m not an overly long winded person I think this pretty fairly covers most information I can possibly give.
I’m former Yogstation staff (retired), for what credit that gives me responsibility wise.
