You can fire them based off flares, and with offsets.
Further, you can program them into fire missions. This means you could buy 4 direct fires, 4 fuel-mix, and then edit a fire mission to fire all 4 at the same time on the same signal flare with a spread to fire OBs as CAS.
No you cant. Napalm is the only rocket you what you cant shoot in an FM no matter what.
Also you can direct fire on any signal,no mater if its flare, lase or JIMA flag, even if you direct shoot something else instead of missiles. And there is also no way you can offset if you do direct fire (You still can move your ship camera around durring direct fire but your projectile will land direcly at your target be it lase or flaer no matter the camera place during fire)
Yeah Jerba is on the money here. Anything you fire in direct fire lands directly on the flare/laze, you can ONLY offset Fire Missions, also every missile except for the Napalm has been able to be in a FM for like years at this point.
But someone figured out how to offset directs. Because theres been several rounds where I see direct firemissions fire nowhere near red dots or signal flares. So it most deffinetly is a thing.
look, last round i made a FM with direct fires and offset them off of flares, and had 4 people in Dchat and 3 in JTAC comms ask me how i was doing it. this lead me to believe its uncommon knowledge so I made a thread.
There’s a strategy where the spotter for Cas turns off their laser after gp fires their missiles, maybe that’s how you think they’re “offsetting” it? I tested out several missiles with lasers + flares and wasn’t able to find a way to offset them without using firemissions.
Nope. Had like 5 different directs happen on me with no flares or lasers, as they are both painfully obious to spot. I don’t know how they do it, wether its a bug or intentional, but its possible to do.
Even had one that hit right in the middle of a rasin box with no windows. So unless the scout somehow got in there, lazed, and then somehow phased through the walls as not to be caught in a napalm strike, I don’t know how else it can happen.
I’ve actually been working on CAS for quite a few months now and have thoroughly tested every nook and cranny about firemissions, both from actual testing and codewise.
You could always direct fire on signal flares (and any CAS signal) since they were added literally 6+ years ago, this is common knowledge and intended.
I’m assuming you mean Rocket Pods when you say “buy Direct Fires”. Every single CAS weapon is usable in firemissions, this is intended. Only specific ammo types are restricted from Firemissions, which is only the Napalm and Fatty when it was still a thing.
You can not offset when Direct Firing. It will always fire directly at the signal regardless of where your camera is. Direct Firing also has spread, every missile isn’t going to land precisely on the exact tile the signal is on, which means if you’re on the other side of the resin wall, the lase was there. You just didn’t see it.
You can only offset Firemissions, and you can offset Firemissions up to 12 tiles away. This only changes where the Firemission begins, the audio sequence and all the text warnings will play from that offset position. Firemissions are NOT Direct Fires, these are two entirely different modes of shooting, both also requiring you to use entirely different buttons to access.
Four rocket pod loadouts have always been a thing. They’re just niche because beyond direct firing on the obvious lase, you only get 1 single Firemission run before you have to immediately land and reload. Unless there was a bug that was literally just introduced this most recent update, I have found nothing on my end.
Either this is xeno misinformation to encourage griefing, or the biggest exploit has just been exposed that GP sweats had been abusing. As I am 100% sure there hasn’t been a CAS buff in a very long time.
So far as Masamune said you cannot offset direct fire. The only weapons that are restricted to direct fire are the napalm and fatty missiles.
The only thing we can do at most that FEELS similar is a “snipe firemission”. Meaning put your rockets/minis to fire at a tile in particular at the far end of a fire mission.
I often do it with keepers or 4 minirockets and fire at the 12th tile for the sake of budgeting and trying to be misleading on where the fire mission is going at.
Remember you can edits you fire mission in ALL 12 TILES. You don’t necessarily have to begin firing your guns at tile 1.
