I know you’ll probably all have lots of questions, but I’d just hold on to them for now. This is just the interior stuff. There’s going to eventually be exterior stuff and underbelly stuff (multi-z moment).
I definitely like the increased detail a lot, I would say this is a nice improvement. The colors are also better, the pale walls and the dark alamo floor for the current sprites we use do contrast to make it look a bit jarring.
My question is will the colors of the alamo and normandy remain the same?
this looks really cool!
i really like the command zone on it! i think i see a slot for some machines/tanks.
will the 1x3 door be removed? i feel like unga’s are gonna struggle to go through a 1x1 door.
I like it but also don’t. It looks nicer and more organized but it’s got worse traffic throughput than current Alamo because of the 1 tile (rather than 2 tile) side doors (and the flow around them is also worse) - it wouldn’t be a big deal if not for almost every map being east/west ingress/egress dominated rather than south. Especially on the Almayer with medbay being to the immediate east, this is the direction all foot traffic, medics, etc. are going to try and go through and it’s a 1-tile choke in the present design.
At the very least, if keeping the 1 tile doors, I would make the south doorway 5 tiles wide like this quick edit:
If you don’t want people using the side doors, they should probably be removed entirely rather than kept, but if it must be kept with restricted throughput, then the doors are best moved so that it takes longer to go through them to reach medbay than it does to go through the south door to reach medbay. Otherwise it’s just asking for huge traffic jams as anything more than 2 people try to get through those doors at once.
A lot of space could also be saved (or expanded into) by using a stairway or ladder to go up to the cockpit/ops/nav room and having that on a separate z-level from the troop compartment (It sounds like something along these lines is planned anyway). Would essentially double the size of the troop compartment and potentially enable north doorway exits as well as larger east/west exits. (Depends how closely this is meant to match the cheyenne in the movies)
A nice to have would also be some kind of stowage compartments on the outside of the dropship for crates, backpacks, vendors, or other misc. equipment.
A big concern here is the alamo currently seats 64 (and still feels cramped and overwhelmed on mid-high pop) while the one shown seats 28, which is less than half as many people.
Like I said, hold the questions. This is a ramp lol, also it’s a little over 40 seats. I intend for people to start using both dropships, but please hold the questions, my design is neither finalized nor revealed.
I know I just posted about this, but looking at the images again, I love the sorta separated section near the cockpit. As a medic main, it gives a reasonable place to work on marines without the death shuffle of the current dropships.
