So in my two years of CM I have seen HvH with CLF once and it was a hostage rescue (needless to say the CLF got rolled and the hostages wasted). Although their guns and armor suck I think with a few proper adjustments an HvH with the CLF is doable. I’d say they need more firepower like rockets grenades and IEDs. Otherwise they cant really compete.
CLF are an irregular force and thus they shouldn’t be able to stand up to USCM in anything but guerilla warfare. Opening with any weapon is extremely strong in HVH.
CLF should go toe to toe with USCM only in the most extreme cases. A full-blown revolution, where they are armed by the UPP.
CLF vs USCM should be like insurgency in Project reality, where there’s civilians mixed in with the CLF, and if the marines kill civilians then it some how negatively affects the marines so that marines don’t just stomp the CLF in five seconds of deploying.
Alternatively instead of USCM vs CLF how about some other faction vs CLF hvh.
We actually had CLF vs USCM HvH years ago, it was quite ok, but I think UPP is more balanced to fight marines currently.
Yeahhhh, as the others have said, the CLF are not intended to fight the marines in toe-to-toe engagements. I ran that CLF hostage rescue mission, and there’s a reason it was the last HvH game I ever ran. Not enough players on this server care about roleplay or objectives to make that kind of engagement viable.
cmb vs clf
That actually does sound like a cool idea, local police department vs insurgents hiding among the local population.
Sad but true. Medium-Rare RP server.
But ya CLF vs Marines in a head on battle makes zero sense.
Some sort of mission scenario where a big Delta Squad gets ambushed by CLF in some sort of colony setting might make sense or maybe a hostage type situation with very defined guidelines/objectives might be cool but yeah not enough people know how to roleplay enough to make it happen.
Steelpoint’s HVH with UPP vs Marines seems to be coming together in some sense and might be really good with more tweaks and adjustments. I just wish it wasn’t hosted during times I can’t really play, but thats timezones for you.
Bro we got to do RMC vs CLF trust me bro it will work bro i swear bro.
The marines had 0 reason to care about the hostages. What happens if the hostages die? The marines “lose”, but don’t really care because they’re there to fight. What happens if the hostages are saved? The round ends because the marines won. The fact is that there really wasn’t any incentive to make them care.
On a side note. The CLF don’t need to be this shitty. They should be inferior to the USCM, but the idea that colonies cannot supply themselves with basic gear is just silly. The fact that the Alien universe lacks hyperdrive shenanigans means that every colony is going to have to have teams of engineers, researchers, meteorologists, doctors, chemists, etc to make sure they’re able to keep themselves alive and running in between visits and supply drops from outside. The idea that these people can’t supply themselves with MAR-40s, which for all intents and purposes appears to be “ak in spess” is silly. The basic CLF fighter in game also lacks shit like boots, knives, pouches, etc.
That being said, they’re not written as a unified faction, so I don’t see why we can’t have events where we have poorly armed CLF aligned militias and another where you have ex-soldiers or mercenaries or even CLF aligned pirates that are fairly well armed.
Again, it’s just roleplay. They were expected to care 1, because it was civilians, and 2, because it was expressly their mission to rescue the hostages.
I’ve learned my lesson about marines being motivated by their mission. Hence, the event has never been re-attempted.
I think that event could have gone better. The problem is that saving the hostages didn’t really effect the round. Maybe if we had an objective beyond the hostages. Like they’re needed for us to escape the planet, or activate some sort of satellite AA to hold off a UPP ship that’s coming. As is, that objective being the only thing they had to do sort of falls flat. It also is an issue of the average event taking 45 minute to sometimes over an hour to start so people are ready to go then and there.
