Combat Correspondent Objectives

It would be really neat if some intelligent, charismatic, and handsome maintainer/contributor created an objective system for the Combat Correspondent. It could just be a roundstart fax that gives the CC a set of objectives like “Photograph a marine shooting their weapon”, “Fax a statement about a marine’s combat experiences”, “Photograph 6 enemy types”, etc.

It would be a fun implementation that could give Combat Correspondence something roleplay-ey to work towards throughout the round.

What’s about using some special version of the current useless personal computers around the ship the CC could use to select maybe two or three objectives out of a predefined list and when completed select new ones? Instead of only groundside objectives, maybe a few more shipside ones, things like “take multiple pictures of research/CIC working”, “interview a MP”, something like that to get the CC involved in shipside roleplay. Overall good idea, however.

maybe something that allow them to port their work more easily onto the forum for example?
that would be a good insensitive to do articles etc…
maybe a tag dedicated to reporter post?
idk…
we could also add guide to journalism inside their office that is link to their wiki page…?

Personally I think instead of direct objectives for the CC and the CL, I believe that they should be indirect objectives through the use of deadchat.

To elaborate on this:

You have your regular CL and every X (20mins?) amount of time a board room meeting will be held in deadchat. What this entails is a highlighted mention in deadchat that the board room is taking place, and the first 11(?) players to join are apart of the boardroom. The players that join however are still dead but they now have a UI to interact with where they can read through the faxes sent and subsequently vote on their dissatisfaction with the CL. Each board room majority choice is faxed in via a pre-made template stating their views on the current CL. The dissatisfied and satisfied outcomes for CL and CC could also be made to have effects on certain ert’s showing up, like a small merc ert showing up hired to take the CL/CC hostage to put them in their place.

A vote passing with the majority dissatisfied leads to negative outcomes, eventually leading to a corporate higherup coming over (mini ert) to berate the CL into doing a better job.

A vote passing with the majority satisfied leads to positive outcomes, eventually leading to a corporate highup congratulating them on their promotion.

To flip this to CC it would have to change between the military choice and the civilian choice with who deadchat represents, but the system is in essence the same just at a different time to the CL board room meetings so deadchat isn’t flashbanged.

In essence it could be a very good system to keep objectives somewhat ‘dynamic’ without being beholden to the do X for Y, as I personally don’t believe those fit into the hrp roles of CC or CL. It also allows for deadchat to have an active role in what happens to the CC and CL, with you know some players voting based off of the rp they see, some just wanting it all to go horribly wrong, some wanting to encourage them to continue what they are doing, and some just wanting to vote on either side to see what the character will do in those situations.

This is a neat concept, but I imagine a bit more challenging to code.

Add medals awardable to CCs

Exceptional CCs could get a putlitzer at the end of the round

as someone who CC’s a good bit I dont really see what this would add, CC is a roleplay role where you kinda already have to have an idea of what you want to do coming into the round.

Giving CC objectives feels weird, like why would you go CC if you don’t have RP for yourself and others already planned

edit: part of this just feels like backwards compensation for CC not having any OOC reach on the round (IC-announcements being basically unused and faxes to gen public/various news organizations not going to the lobby screen)

I have to agree, but perhaps a little less acerbically. CC and CL are typically ‘make your own fun’ roles imo.

this is an EXCELLENT idea, please implement if you can!

reporting on some of the personal terminal logs or paper scraps shipside would be newsworthy in-and-of itself. illegal interrogations, bizarre deep space happenings, etc.

I certainly agree that the CC is a ‘make your own fun’ role, I just thought it might be a neat way to give some CCs a direction if they don’t have one in mind.

Feeding ideas to a CC is ezpz, I think the real problem here that should be addressed is how to put the creative work the CC does in front of eyes. While faxes for DChat to guffaw over is solid, that wont matter for the first 40 minutes of the game due to a lack of people being dead, really.

Personally I think having news casters wouldn’t be a terrible idea where people can read what stories have been printed, maybe with a little blinking light to show there’s a new CC story that you haven’t read yet.

Not having an area for ghosts/lobby screen folk to be able to see past sent faxes to gen pub+news orgs in the form of a list is a travesty.

Having a silly popup like a much less intrusive tacmap update that marines+shipside could pull up to read whatever you’ve sent out would be silly but also a lot of effort in order to make it not too intrusive

Idea. CC try to expose the secrets of WY via the CL.
