Provide a short description of your synthetic’s backstory
The Lopez line of synthetics was developed by a small group of engineers and scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a side project to come up with a robot that could conduct ship repairs in zero gravity vacuum environments, whether at a drydock in space or far away from civilization. After the first few batches, customers tweaked their Lopez units by installing commercial off-the-shelf disks to expand their capabilities and mission sets to adequately suit their needs. Seeing the potential, Weyland-Yutani developed the newer models to provide isolated outer rim colonies as well as civilian and military ships in deep-space incursions with the independence and self-sufficiency they needed to survive. Today, a Lopez support synthetic can serve colonists and colonial marines alike in a variety of scenarios, whether it’s a compounding engineering casualty or a fatal medical emergency.
Describe your synth’s personality without mentioning their skills or previous professions
Lopez is the archetype of the creative, enterprising, and quick-witted engineer in the far frontiers of space. He has a great sense of camaraderie for his fellow crew, especially the smarter and more resourceful members in the engineering department. No matter the situation, he exudes an air of undisturbed confidence – something programmed into him to make nearby humans less likely to panic in emergencies. He’s calm, collected, and grants his seniors the respect they’ve earned, but he’s not a stiff either. Lopez is known to cheer up and lift the spirits of nearby humans, and will initiate stimulating conversations on a variety of topics from naval ship designs to MRE menus, making him a great companion during boring, tedious work.
How would your synthetic interact with enlisted personnel, officers and civilians? How could you involve your personality into these interactions?
On a basic level, Lopez treats the enlisted personnel aboard the ship as if they were kin. He’s grateful to see them comfortable and in good health and frequently refers to them as his friends, his amigos, his compas and compadres. Despite his rank, he does not think of enlisted personnel as beneath him in any way and would gladly serve them down to the private – especially the private. Officers, sirs and ma’ams, señores and señoritas, are treated with the utmost regard and esteem that comes with their commissions. If a marine – enlisted or officer, but especially if it’s an officer – issued an order that was legal but dangerous and ill-advised, Lopez would respectfully and indirectly suggest against it by offering valuable information and input that may have been missing from the marine’s decision-making process. If the order remained, he’ll go through with it and keep it to himself, “canning it” so to speak. Being part of the Colonial Marines, Lopez tends to keep civilians at arm’s length. He’ll remain cordial and respectful with them but won’t seek to go further than that.
Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I was inspired to be a synthetic by the exploits of synthetic players I witnessed throughout the years, from ripping larvae out of chests with their bare, metallic hands, to rescuing casualties from the brink of death-by-orbital-fratricide. Besides the combat, I have a lot of experience in various support roles and I’m very keen to take it a step further, and I’m confident in my ability to keep it engaging and interesting from a roleplay perspective during my interactions with fellow marines.
What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?
Synthetic Character Story:
Skills:
How familiar are you in CMs support roles such as medical/engineering/requisitions/command and which of them are you more and less proficient in?
I think I’m quite familiar with all of these roles. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time as a doctor and corpsman (usually in Charlie) performing surgeries and treating mass casualties. Construction as well as shipside and colony engineering is something I’ve done quite a lot (usually as MT or FTL), and I believe I’m one of three or four engineers that set up cameras and fiddle with camera console circuit boards to do things like FOB CCTV and video feeds of what’s going on outside the Alamo, all visible from the cockpit and every camera console in the Almayer. Requisitions is second-nature to me, I can single-handedly supply the FOB and frontline without burning through the budget or taking too much time. Plus, I label and customize my crates, writing down some of the important stuff delivered. I have done shipside command before as a staff officer in a few rounds but it’s not my cup of tea, I prefer to lead from the front with a megaphone as Charlie SL.
What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
Generally a synthetic should only fight in self-defense or to protect barricades when no other marine is nearby.
Scenario A: I’m expanding the FOB’s barricades when a runner tries to melt some of them. I can hit it from behind the defensive line to force it to retreat but nothing beyond that.
Scenario B: I’m moving to the colony’s operating room to treat an infected marine when I see a lurker ambush two marines. I can shake the marines up and punch the lurker to make it disengage from the fight. If the number of marines getting attacked is large and they’re shooting back adequately then a punch wouldn’t be necessary and I could just focus on shaking them up after they get pounced.
Scenario C: I’m carrying a wounded marine to the nearest secure area (say, comms) after the front was routed and a runner is trying to attack me or the marine I’m carrying. I’ll keep running towards friendly lines and dissuade the runner from chasing me by hitting it when it comes close.
Scenario D: The Alamo was hijacked and the marines were overrun. My priority is to make a run for it to an escape pod, striking any xeno that tries to stop me from preserving my life and only stopping to rescue any fallen marine I come across.
Final Info:
Have you been banned in the last month?
No
Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?
My catchphrase: “Luck gets you far, Lopez takes you further.”
Side note: The use of señor/señorita/amigo/compa/etc. will be kept minimal, to local chat, and when the situation isn’t tense. On the radio or in combat it’s just sir and ma’am as per standard operating procedure.
