A level of punishment escalation for LRP that doesn’t involve a serverban and instead encourages players to grow & approach the game in a different light.
The DCC Ban locks players out of every role except Dropship Crew Chief. This ideally forces otherwise shit-flinging/MP-fighting/toxic-as-fuck marines to have to engage with shipside roles, as DCCs regularly work with DPs, SOs, Research, Medbay, and Req. It still allows for hella fun, as DCC can be pretty intense and hectic, but it puts players in a role that’s 99999% radio communication.
The Mess Ban locks players out of every role except Penal Cook. Penal Cook is a role supervised by actual Mess Techs. They have an explosive collar. The button for this explosive collar is in the hands of the Mess Techs, the XO, and the MPs. This is the escalation before an actual serverban.
Of course, applying these instead of a serverban is up to the admin 's discretion. I am willing to personally code the PR for these if people feel it’s a fun idea. Just gauging interest.
I don’t think forcing people to play as roles they don’t like would solve LRP issues. Additionally, giving Baldo McBaldface the cook a button to instagib Robusto McLRP (essentially an admin power) doesn’t seem like a very good idea. Edit: OK, now you’re resorting to downvote spam?
They’d rather be b&? If they don’t wanna play as jobs they don’t want, then they don’t play, and it accomplishes the same thing as a ban. This is an opportunity for growth & improvement of players, ya just don’t get it
Lets be honest, most players would rather sit out their bans than play a knockoff DP role or the CM version of a perma prisoner from TG
edit: Giving an item to a new-player role (Mess Technician) Which can basically round-end someone trying to roleplay as a “penal cook” Isn’t a good idea, you should see how many new players join MST for the first time
I feel like a thing you’re forgetting is that you usually don’t get perma banned instantly, you usually get notes and timed bans, these should serve as warnings and encourage a player to grow.
if someone has failed to grow from any of the previous experiences if feel forcing them to play like two roles won’t do much to encourage growth that timed bans, job bans and warnings don’t already.
I was willing to take the “This is not a shitpost.” seriously until I read this.
I can only say: Uhhhh… what the fuck? Don’t get me wrong I kinda like the idea of punishment roles, it’s kinda like an NJP but longer and easier to manage IC because of the involved tools. But the thing is, it’s just so much easier to warn and ban people than continuously supervize them in their shiny (but agonizingly boring) new role. Besides, have you heard of the history of the regular SS13 clown? The thing was an actual punishment job but people that were forced into the clown costume took it as a badge of honor and instead of curving their shitty behaviour it ended up encouraging it.
Also giving the MST a tool for literally blowing up the head of a human being is unironically LRP, have in mind what standards the MPs maintain when keeping inmates healthy and “happy” (citation needed) and after thinking on them you can only think: “How the fuck would provost allow us to literally strap bombs on people that misbehave?”.
Please for the love of god, stop coping so much you fill the thread with bad ideas. Its not hard to not break the rules.
DCC can fly alamo and on their own can greif the marines with like locking them out and being shit running transport.
The explosive collar idea is also bad man. IF at all that kind of power so should not be held by players IC, leave for staff or like a event at most.
I would just like to comment: If you need to say it’s not a shitpost, then it consequently is, or else why would you say it isn’t? I mean, nobody didn’t even stated it was a shitpost or not, and yet you felt the need to say that isn’t, literally, on the first line (the introduction to your proposal).
I have never once been banned for any reason on CM-13, do you know why? Because I made absolutely sure my character and actions aligned with the setting and rules of the server. Prior to joining I spent around 3 months designing a character and evaluating what skills he might have and where he’d most likely excel. This was an exhausting period of frustratingly going back and forth between traits such as for my character having a moustache or not (grooming standards are very serious in the marines and can lead to disciplinary action). This took around 2 and a half weeks to resolve before I really began to develop the backstory.
Don’t even get me started on ensuring the rules were followed. I spent a painful 4 weeks just studying the server rules by creating flash cards and having my friends test me. I told them it was for a history class (they were F students and never tried, so they were clueless while I was top 15% in my class). Also, I spent time taking walks with the rules and my character’s biography played via audiotape through my airpods (the pro 3rd gen, exclusive edition due to contacts I know of). Eventually. I began to repeat a lot of it in my sleep, it was only at this point did I feel like I was really ready to step into the realm of CM-13.
Even then, I had to maneuver my way as a rifleman and had to skip on parties and other events in real life due to 5 hour rounds because of the queen constantly tunneling (I could not just log out because that would be fail RP/LRP and warrants a note). It was not easy, but I made it through. Was it a challenge? Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean I regret it. It taught me a lot as I have utilized a lot of skills learned in CM-13 to aid my career and communication skills in the real world. (I since have 1000+ followers on various social media accounts which I constantly am getting requests from famous influencers to do collabs)
It’s not too late to try and become part of something that will make you a better person. If you ever have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am always available to answer on some weekends, preferably the one after this upcoming (I tend to be socializing heavily and this weekend I have to get my ferrari cleaned at the car wash after taking it for a ride with some female friends of mine).
Locking this. Not happening. Perma Bans from the server are not common and are not meant to be a mild inconvenience, if you’ve been Perma banned, we don’t want you on our server full stop.
Don’t break rules if you want to be part of the server and community
