Okay. This might look like a cope post/mald post/salt post to some people, but I’m genuinely looking for what people think about despoilers, from both sides. USCM or Xeno.
During this Chances Claim round, I’ve saw a despoiler insta-melt a plasteel barricade to the point where I audibly said ‘What the fuck?’
And this wasn’t just now, I saw this multiple times, and I never said anything.
I do not understand why a T3 can almost-instantly destroy a plasteel barricade, a material already expensive and usually requiring requisitions to purchase it for quite a large sum, as you rarely find it on the colony.
Did anyone else experience this, or anything similar, and what do you think about it?
Considering it has barely any risk is doing so, I don’t think it should be able to, it’s not like it has to stand there for several seconds to apply acid on it, engineers get it so bad already and despoilers just make shit even worse.
I said this several times before but despite my hours as Despoiler I do generally agree that Despoiler shouldn’t instantly break cades, nor should the puddles get behind the cades or be un-extinguishable.
On the other side of the argument, we don’t need 4 hour slop rounds because xeno siege tools atm are beyond dogshit. If Despoiler didn’t exist we would’ve stalled for King. The argument that Boiler is good for sieges is one based not on how effective it is in dealing damage to cades but in how effective it is in making CT’s stop playing the game ( GOD TRAPPER PLEASE GO AWAY )
Xenos don’t have any viable siege tools, genuinely none especially because marines can reliably stack firepower especially on highpop, so as a xeno you either rely on marines not watching a specific cade area ( Rare ) or bashing your head against the cadeline 3582835 times, watching half your hive die and then having to do Hijack against 60 marines.
Fact is that FOB sieges suck ass for both sides because marines get no interesting defensive tools and just spam cadeline after cadeline while xenos get absolutely no offensive tools to deal with a well defended FOB ( “BUT KING” I don’t care, nobody wants to see one side stall for the win button )
I don’t, in general, think Despoilers are any worse than Trapper Boilers when it comes to destroying cades. Both of them need pretty decent support (mostly just walls/doors to hide behind) and Boilers even have the benefit of basically only having the counter of ‘a sniper who shoots nothing but it’ or ‘cas/mortar/ob directly on top of it while its trying to shoot’.
Maybe despoilers break cades too fast, but I don’t have a problem with their role. At worst, their damage numbers to cades need tweaked, imo.
This is also extremely true, as I think it’s the only real xeno-tool that gets behind cades, isn’t it?
Maybe, but… If FOB doesn’t instantly fold, there is a chance marines reorganize and push out. If FOB instantly folds it’s hijack against 100 marines. What is better?
It’s Hijack against 100 marines either way, a slow and painful grind just ensures that xeno numbers are even more atrociously low.
No argument against that but as I stated before, right now xeno tools against cades are absolutely garbage. Boiler cloud entirely relies on fearRP and most marines already just shoot into the cloud incase a xeno tries to attack the cade. The aftermath of a coordinated attack into a cadeline using a boiler is also at max 1 broken cade or a CT quickly repairing the damage
Just dont stop the charge so we can go back to gearing up at round start. We need shorter rounds. We love shorter rounds. 1 hour rounds are too long. I need to be back to gearing up or prepping the map for 20mins. Great game
IMO despoilers are crappier than T3s mid-fight. They work as some kind of longer range ravanger that is squishier and cannot pound marines into the dirt as hard.
Their tradeoff is vs cadeline defenses. You are still subject to just about anything that would kill a vanguard, but when you go up to a cade you can actually do something, even if given only a bit of time. Keep in mind I have fought synths vs my trapper boiler that somehow managed to outrepair me when I am hitting 3 cade pieces at once. Stapling pieces back together, using multi-weld between shots, prebuilding cade pieces and pushing them in place when I finally get a cade piece down. The despoiler’s cade destruction speed may seem unfair but some builders can rival the amish family guy sketch.
I just have the general take that xeno focuses and relies entirely too much on t3s to do…well basically anything, even outside of FOB sieging (which is what t3s should be good at helping with the most). Despoiler in particular I just find exceedingly annoying to fight and deal with especially because it seems like its acid entirely ignores bio-cades resistances.
I personally think barricade upgrades should matter way, way more, because right now there’s no reason to use anything besides slash reinforcement because any acid source besides a despoiler already barely does anything to normal barricades, and bio cades can just be deleted by a despoiler anyways.
Despoiler is good, it means I need to be creative and use something like a wall or shoot gun instead of growing balder by the second welding barricades.
I love being instant killed by empowered caustic embrace, I love being immediately paincritted as even if I escape with barely any health I have T3 acid on my ass every time
Despoiler is the single most terrifying single-target CQC caste right now, god forbid they decide to single you out
Metatarget them all with HEDP
Cades wise I think they’re fine, trapper deletes Cades from safety in a 3x3 radius, despoiler being able to delete single Cades extremely fast in CQC seems on par. FOB sieges should require the marines to have enough combat power to stay in the fight- If they fail to preserve enough combat power then they deserve to be routed. You see the same stuff with BRUTE vs hive defences, so I’m not really concerned.
