Different take on mag harness

Instead of what it currently is, what if it’s sturdy rope/chain that attaches the weapon to something. This something could either be the belt, the armor or the back(pack), with or without a holster.

You first attach the mag to a weapon, then as soon as you try to stow the weapon in a holster/slot, you do a little loading to attach the rope to said slot/holster. If you ever want to detach it, you right click the holster/weapon and have an extra option to detach.

Then, when you get downed/knocked away, the rope makes it so the item always drops right at your feet, doesn’t put it in the holster, but it makes sure the weapons are always on the same tile as you.

This is to make up for the extra flexibility, since it adds one more step before you have your weapon back, plus it subjects the weapon to potential durability losses.

Code/visual wise, to account for someone dropping their weapon and then just walking everywhere, i figure it could be done by simply making the weapon disappear as long as the user is moving, and once they stop, the weapon drops at their feet.

Additionally, since it would be rope/chain, maybe xenos could break it if they target those specific spots. Groin for belt holster, chest for suit slot and maybe back slot.

we should make the magharn a sling instead of whatever it currently is

and not do like any of that. except maybe make it stick to the back slot too. that’d be peak

it’s honestly not a terrible idea but maybe make that an alternative to the magharn? the biggest thing it does right now is keep your gun on you at all times so it can’t be melted

you sacrifice a decent amount of accuracy for not having to pick up your gun every 5 seconds, nerfing magharn would literally just be adding tedium for the sake of adding tedium

Gotta love waiting an hour to reply to my own topic.

The main goal was to have a mag harn that works with all slots and harnesses instead of the current one that only does suit slot and nothing else.

I’d be fine if it was a separate item too.

As for why i added so many downsides…if there were no downsides, the change would be a straight buff, hence why i thought to add some and also thought it fleshed it out a little.

Like sure it’s breakable, but for it to break xenos would have to target chest and groin. And what xeno ever targets those instead of feet/arms?

If you ask me i’d be super down for no downsides at all. It’s just that from the feel of the community, i thought presenting something with no downsides at all would just be outright rejected.

i think it’ll still be balanced even if it gets a buff, i think that magharns are in a good spot save for being a dumb piece of metal you strap onto the irons of your rifle which uses space magic to snap to your armor. even respriting it to just look like a sling would help a lot i think. but also fuck that shit im not making a sling sprite for every single mag-harn-able gun in the game LOL

i think it would be cool if magharn could work for back slot too
