Distress Signal Automated

What if we made the distress signal automated and the ERT type is chosen by the game from roundstart. That way when the dropship is launched into the air the red ERT text flashes in ERT chat and members are spawned at their station so they can choose their loadout and gear and prepare before sirens are sounded at the station and the ERT members have to make their way onto the shuttle to launch.

This in my opinion sounds much better than spawning with random gear (god forbid the UPP riot shotgun) they’re not comfortable with using. Also this would probably prevent some metagaming like knowing where the dropship landed because they were spawned before dropship crashed into the almayer. Aswell as give the members time to RP.

Although gonna take some time to code but it should be a nice feature. Maybe some balancing like removing the Deathsquad Mk2’s at WY station.

in theory a sound idea.

However, the issue herein is that what if no one calls the ERT? A bit of a waste to sit in a ERT station and miss watching the action.

Furthermore, what if a admin decides to send a specific ERT or do a event? Do the people in the ERT station miss out?

I think a better way to solve equipment issues is to put vendors on the ERT dropship.

I mean if you have a dropship crashing into your hull with 20 XX-121 and your groundside troops are dead, I wouldn’t be surprised if the ship AI sends a distress signal Automatically depending on the numbers of marines left such as 20% 15% of total shipside+Groundside members. To preserve whatever number of people are left, aswell as informing HC that the USS Almayer just sent out a Distress with no context, for the third USS ship to head to the AO and find out what happens.

If an admin wants to call a specific ERT just cancel the join ERT when queen launches the dropship.

Putting vendors in the dropship doesn’t feel cinematic enough and it’ll just clutter the floor with gear like in marine preps. Also the time to land is like 30-40 seconds so not enough time to choose your gear unless you stay behind when you land. Also generally puts the station maps to use and works lore wise.

(godforbid the slowdown in ideasguys.)

I think that would be a bit to complicated as opposed to simply having the game roll a random ERT upon calling. Adding a bypass to that system would allow for admins to do what they want in terms of events and specific ERTs being called.

I think expanding on the ERT system could be a good idea as it’s the only way to see some factions and would be cool for them to get some love as well in-game.

Giving admins the ability to cancel the automatic ERT spawn would be nice and would still let them do their thing if they’re running an event ERT or testing some ERT or something.
