Do you enjoy playing as xeno on Tyrargo? Why/why not?

(Edit, i can’t post my opinion due to slow mode so I will throw it in here)

So recently I had a chance to play as xeno (queen) on tyrargo and it felt extremly frustrating to play on that map (I think it’s much better when you play as marine). I have also seen a lot of speedrun rounds when xenos get destroyed in 20 minutes and I honestly feel like unless marines are really performing very poorly xenos have to hit them very hard outside the town to actually have a chance of winning.

City feels very marine sided with all the sandbags with wire, almost all of the buildings walls can be destroyed and all the roofs that marines can shoot from or shoot you off those roofs from the street.

Building in the city itself is also quite unenjoyable (to me) because of all those sandbags and other stuff thats all over the streets and building, also the stairs block you from building on adjacent tiles (i guess it’s more of multiz problem) which i don’t really understand since I think blocking building on stairs would be enough.

I am interested if I am the only one feeling that way and if not maybe we could come up with some solutions how to make the map more enjoyable so please if you do put your vote at least write why do/don’t you enjoy playing as xeno on this map.

Skill issue.

Believe it or not, I hate Tyrargo as a xeno. I do not want to line up politely in an orderly queue in a 1x1 corridor just to slash, and it’s a hassle when I’m dragging a cap but someone’s behind me trying to go the opposite direction, so we engage in constant shuffles.

Funny carrier map.

Very mid drone/hivelord map.

I wish there was some visual difference (shadows would be ideal) to show when you are beneath something/obscured. Lots and lots of times I’m fighting on one Z level, and I step one tile to the right and get lit up from every level. I can’t look up while Im actively fighting someone in front of me

 I enjoy playing the game on any map, even if all my fellow xeno are dead or we end up hijacking longer than we are on the planet.

I’m hardly a xeno player yet though

I dont know why but I confused Tyrargo with Con-am 81.

I absolutely fucking hate Tyrargo as a xeno. There’s no real good place to build a hive in, and there’s sandbags literally everywhere. It’s a great map as a carrier but it sucks ass trying to hold any one area for long because of multi z and most of the viable hive areas being easily CAS-able.

Thematically, I love the map. It looking like the army is on the planet fighting xenoes for months on end is really cool looking, alongside a city which looks actively fought in.

Balance wise, it feels pretty one sided. Albeit it’s a pretty good 50/50 between the map itself, and multiz. The map has some real long and open lanes for marines with barely anything there, and a sensor tower that’s basically a screen away from the city entrance. There’s no real good hive placement, and most of the chokes on the map have no indestructible walls. For multiz, it feels pretty marine sided with the 1x1 railings on the buildings, alongside amazing building positioning for sniper to free fire down the street. Add in MD for checking Xeno positioning 24/7 and it feels very bleak of you don’t just rush marines after drop.

All in all, I feel it only could use a bit more tweaks, like adding more vision blockers for higher z levels, changing sensor tower location, and making it less open with some unbreakable walls. Because I would honestly hate to see it removed since it is such a good looking map.

I like how the map looks genuinely, I think the story part is cool, but multiz and the way it is implemented puts me off both as xeno and marine. Though I am a multiz hater.

The map looks great but has joined LV and Shivas in maps I simply won’t play

Agree, it’s a very good looking map. I like how the sewer leads to this giant river. I love the debris of the army fighting the xenos.

Pretty much every map has a very xeno centric area that marines have to push into in order to kill the hive. (Reactor on chances, caves on LV, ship on hybrisa, etc) This just doesn’t exist. In fact the more you get pushed the worse the terrain gets. It leads to a slippery slope where if the xenos get pushed back there’s nowhere for them to go

Multi-z will always favor marines because of their ranged weapons.

The only experience with Tyrargo I have is as a marine, and we completely dominate the Xenos every time if we manage to get to the city part, because of how much roofing and vantage points there are above, there’s basically nowhere for Xenos to fight with cover, or an angle that the marines can’t shoot down from. It’s very one sided for the most part. You can’t also really hold the western grassy open areas because of how open they are as well, making the map very Marine sided for the most part.

I suppose it’s more so the nature of Multi-z, it’s why I’m not a Multi-z lover for the most part.

very fun to hunt in the sewers, navigating the city seems like a pain

I honestly believe the issue is Xenos playing the map wrong.

Its a backliner and flank map, that’s what it works for, but xenos are trained to hold choke, and marines to npc into the choke. But more and more marine players are learning that aggressive gameplay and going around chokes is the best move. Rift rewards this.

Xenos are inherently more mobile than marines, and holding hive is sort of pointless. Xenos need to use flanks, go around marines, use the underground, and moblity to fuck them up. When marines hit city gates? fuck it, relocate hive far south. You need a hive location? upper level crashed dropship. ez. You can build that and then fight mid level for a fake out and to deny sensors.

Xenos are being forced to adapt, and that’s why they don’t like it. They can’t sit a choke, imo letting marines into the city is a xeno advantage, because xenos are natural flankers, ambushers, and stunners. Literally just let marines in ,let them spaghetti then start picking them off. take caps to some fuck off location like lz2 underground so the marines get confused and half go there thinking its hive and half keep pushing gates. Do literally anything besides try to hold city gate like a choke and adapt.

You are talking to the team that cannot literally follow a single order in the whole game. If xenos dont have a static front, they lose. Only good queens with good xenos can do elastic defense… but at that point, you don’t need anything else to win and you are going to win most of the time.

‘Use underground’ nobody ever goes under, why? Its a maze, its not weeded most of the time and you cannot build anything. It doesnt matter if its flooded or not, I have never seen the underground used. That hive location? It’s the worst in the map. You are literally ONE DOOR away from being shot. The Crashed DS hive is one of the worst hive locations I have ever seen. The Hospital hive is superior in every way.

You cannot do this. The map is filled with shit that is an advantage to marines, there’s lights. There’s cades, there’s windows. EVERYTHING gives marines an advantage.

But yeah, it’s xenos fault.
Clearly.

The only time that I had fun in Tyrago was a round yesterday or earlier this week where xenos instead of holding choke, held outside because of the crashed ship part nightmare insert. That was fun, the whole city and zlevel bullshit was ignored!

I find this is the case with multi-z in general, I don’t want to always be hating on multi-z, but when it’s used as huge underground areas, it becomes either like IceV2 was with it’s underground, or ignored completely. Or if it’s upper levels like rooftops - the marines have an big advantage using it.
