"Drag click to self" keybind

what?

This thread suggests a “drag-click to self” keybind.

This means instead of needing to drag an object to your player model, you would be able to press a key to do so.

For example: Pressing a drag-click to self keybind while cursor over backpack, results in backpack getting opened.

why?

This would be a QOL with guns like the m2c or m56d, pickupables like portable barricades and resin fruit, and opening backpacks and other storage containers. It would make moving ammo boxes around FOB much less tedious as well.

It would also impact fireman carrying, which may be the biggest balance impact. (I think the gamefeel would be worthwhile though)

Imo, it would impact gamefeel positively, and help people with broken or cheap mouses which may not dragclick 100% of the time. (especially since it’s hard to tell if it’s lag dropping dragclicks or mouse)

If the balance impacts are too much, a windup can probably be added before the keybind goes through.

thoughts?

For some dragging actions, like with vaulting or backpacks, it’s already handled with middle mouse clicks as well, so I’d just expand middle mouse clicks to work with a few more things.
