Provide a short description of your synthetic’s backstory

Originally part of a small-scale experiment by Weyland-Yutani regarding issues in workplace morale, the third-generation Joyce took its place as a general-purpose synthetic with an emphasis in soft-skills and problem solving. These units were formed with the intent of artificially introducing a matron figure into their assigned workplaces, where family structures may be weak or non-existent. Three Joyces began assignment within permanent habitation colonies, where they were monitored for crew response and effectiveness. Positive results showed a strong correlation to crew within the age range of 16-28, especially among populace with unstable or fractured parental structures. During this period, local USCM recruiters were also found to respond well to the Joyce units, and this information was relayed through the experiment overseers. Joyce was concluded to have potential within the USCM operations due to the large percentage of enlisted falling within this age bracket. Two Joyces were thereafter relocated to USCM transport vessels for further study . Although these units did not overtly show increased personal productivity over other provided synthetics, crew behavior analytics showed notable desired shifts in non compliance rates, inter-departmental disputes, and general morale. With these dataset collections concluded, Joyces began production to the general public, though saw most success within USCM, CMB training camps, and prison colony contracts.

Describe your synth’s personality without mentioning their skills or previous professions

First and foremost; a Joyce strives to be matronly, a figure of moderately aged wisdom and guidance. Her formed personality encompasses a mix of firm hospitality, hard work ethics, with a penchant for comforting those who she feels require guidance. Many associate her personality as akin to that of a middle aged southern farmhand due to her synthetic strength with accomplishing tasks, her apparel of choice, and her speech mannerisms. Joyce will actively seek out connections with others, initiating conversations and checking in on others’ well being frequently. Joyces will also frequently reward those who open up to her or engage in conversation with various sweets that she keeps on her person, or offer other small tokens of gratitude when available. Additionally, while it has been noted that curses have been used, Joyces will attempt to use “PG” alternatives to swears where possible such as “darn” of “dag-nabit”.

How would your synthetic interact with enlisted personnel, officers and civilians? How could you involve your personality into these interactions?

Civilians: Joyce will often attempt to engage in conversation, should the situation remain appropriate for it. Often they will check in on them if able, making a vested interest to those they feel may need extra attention. When speaking to them, a Joyce will use familial language, speaking as if implying that one is part of her extended family. This can include words such as “hun”, “dear”, “darling”, and other similar endearments. Her intent with any interaction is to make others feel welcome in her presence.

Enlisted: A Joyce will treat the enlisted in much a similar fashion to most civilians, however they are quite aware that tasks must get done, and will make an effort to not excessively take up their time if not necessary. Additionally they take extra care when attempting to engage in as much immediate conversation or deep talks with the enlisted, as they are aware it may potentially disrupt operations.

Officers: Joyce will treat anyone of high authority (or anyone that is older than the 16-28 age bracket) with much more equal-footing than that of others, rather than the usual canter of talking down. They will pivot to more objective driven behavior, actively seeking where she can help and what might be needed. However, when capable of speaking in a more casual setting, a Joyce retains many of her mannerisms. This includes her attempts at comforting, rapport building, and offering of sweets.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

As a long-time player of synthetics within the space station 13 genre, I adore the unique niche that synthetics of both SS13 and CM can provide to a round. This has given me quite a bit of experience with needing to work around lawsets and unusual rulesets to get around tough situations. This love for synthetics carries over to CM as well of course, and I wish to be a part of the roleplay and experiences that they can provide.

I am a support main at heart, with many of my hours poured into researcher, medic, field doctor, RO, and similar positions. I enjoy places that are not always on the frontline, and can have space to talk and interact with others more so than the on-the-boots marines.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

While I do not have a lot of direct interactions with synthetics, The most notable one I can remember was when there was a mutiny shipside after the command mixed two coords and ended up sending an OB to the front. A mutiny quickly formed once the marines evac’d, and the synthetic was doing his best to act as a neutral third party to both sides and diffuse the situation. However, due to more or less directly admitting command made the mistake it only caused the situation to escalate out of control and fighting broke out. I only vaguely remember the end since it was so long ago, but I believe it ended with the synthetic attempting to help rescue command after being shot but being murdered as a result.

Synthetic Character Story:

Skills:

How familiar are you in CMs support roles such as medical/engineering/requisitions/command and which of them are you more and less proficient in?

Medical I would say with certainty that medical is likely my strongest area, as I play field doctor/researcher/medic the most out of all of my playtime. Many times I can drain a chem dispenser while making medication for the pre-op rush, and as research am highly familiar with all the different types of chemical properties. I know many tricks for speeding up surgery times, dealing with clone damage, overdoses, and everything any typical doctor may encounter in the workspace. Requisitions As another favorite of mine, I am very familiar with the workings of requisitions as the quartermaster even back when it was called the Requisitions Officer! I can reliably man the line with efficiency, utilize ASRS, prepare drops on all pads, and even know how to unlock some Unsavory options on the ASRS machine for special crates. When I man supply, marines can generally expect frontline crates ready for release before the first drop has even reached groundside. Engineering While I am less experienced with engineering, with most of my knowledge being in cadeline setup, maintenance, and defense, I am not completely inept in this area. I know how to restart and maintain generators, supply the orbital cannon, fix windows, fix comms, fix APCs, and most other general engineering tasks that may be expected shipside. Command In full honesty, command roles are where I have the least practical experience. That is not to say I do not have any, I just do not focus most of my playtime in these areas. I am, however, familiar with the overseer consoles, the orbital bombardment consoles, and have at least basic experience with many of the general command consoles. Additionally with my hours in gunship pilot and the many times I have been made aSL on the frontline due to spec being my highest playtime for marines, I have a handfull of unofficial command hours where I have been exposed to command.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

As a synthetic, combat situations are very constrained and a lot of expectations and restrictions are put in place to ensure that synths do not prioritize combat. Most of these situations fall into self defense, and avoiding risk to one’s self where possible. The largest exceptions come from Delta alert, where synthetics are more free to actively attack the intruders, but should prioritize assisting crew if there are still active groups to be joined. Some quick examples would be:

In the FOB (or other enclosed area) a lurker find/break their way in while Joyce was assisting marines. Joyce may utilize force to ensure the lurker flees from the enclosed zone, or dispatch it if it refuses to dis-engage from the area. Joyce would not, however, chase them out of the enclosed zone and should prioritize ensuring the flaw is patched either by themself or the FOB crew.

Joyce is assisting in the revival of marines in an area, with only one living marine to assist. A backline warrior attempts to grab the living medic to either kill or capture them while Joyce is reviving the other marines. Shaking the marine to get them back onto their feet and attempting to drag the corpses back to a more defended area would be ideal, however force would be authorized to attempt to get the warrior to disengage.

During delta alert, a large number of marines have died shipside to xenomorphs. Joyce finds themself alone after the CO and SO she was traveling with are killed. Joyce may then freely pursue the xeno threat, assuming she is not aware of any other living personnel on ship to assist and move towards at that time.

Final Info:

Have you been banned in the last month?

No

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?

This is my first attempt at any type of whitelist, and I tried to ask as many questions as I could without directly asking to have portions written for me, especially with my story. I apologize if anything isnt considered lore friendly.

+1 An amazing player to interact with both OOC and IC; always trying to make things better for others! I hold zero doubts in their ability to handle the synth whitelist

+1 ive seen this player on quite often they are an extremely talented doctor. I would expect nothing but the best from this one

Your application looks really well put together, I’ve only heard good things to say about Kyani.

I’d recommend rethinking your personality if/when this goes through,

there’s a bit of a history to so called “Mommy synths” that is best dodged.
