fast guide to SCOUUTING

i see alot of players who dont know what they’re doing playin scout
like that deweeder scout that spent 2 hours just clearing weeds in solaris caves
so im throwing this guide together

FIRST OFF
Scout is very hard to play. you need to HIT your shots or you will die
if you cannot do so, try going rifleman and just backlining for 40 hours on both lowpop and highpop, i think you’ll eventually learn.

after you can reliably hit your shots…
remember that you are one of the most useful and versatile specs out of all of them, you can backline you can prevent caps you can recover bodies you can help intel you can hive dive you can finish off xenos who are crit by stabbing them or shooting them you can call in paradrops or a OB/CAS YOU CAN C4 THE QUEEN OR FINISH HER AFTER A BAD SCREECH WHEN SHES CLOSE TO DEATH
a good scout is a god among men.

on scout as a role
scout is designed for 1V1ing, backline is unforgiving, remember to USE ALL YOUR TOOLS at your disposal (your gun, scopes, underbarrelshotty, bayos, claymores, nades) to win against your enemy
you can also clear weeds with your rifle while invis on help intent (and stab xenos with help intent)
harm intent for PBing and shootin em!
help intent also helps you go around unnoticed, xenos cant push you if you are on help intent.
remember to crawl if you are surrounded by xenos/in a bad place do not be killed or captured! do everything in your power to stay up!
xenos have a easier time seeing you offweeds/on some certain tiles such as on solaris
stick to the weeds
and watch out for traps, examine every tile that seems suspicious to you if you have to (i do that)
many scouts die to a acid/hugger trap and are never seen again. dont be like them.

since your role is designed for 1V1ing, take a MD, and have it on you, if you see more than 2 Pings, unless you are with someone, i think its time to move out of there, this will save your life, many times. just remember to turn the MD off when you are chasing/engaging or actually near xenos

your equipment:
image
M4RA-C battle rifle ((ALWAYS USE BURST OTHERWISE THIS RIFLE IS USELESS, TURNING OFF BURST IS FOR SITUATIONAL USAGE)
can mount many attachments, i personally recommend agrip or underbarrel shotty, scope or some sight (dont take maghar, if you drop your gun, most of the time yer dead., and if you aren’t you can just cloak and walk away.) and bayonet (you will have one of the highest melee damages out of all marine gear)

M4RA ammo and what to use it for:
image
A19 HV magazine
high damage high AP, melts most T3s, use this to finish off T3s and the queen, 1-2 mags will kill majority of T3s, 2 mags will kill a queen (if all shots hit)

image
A19 HV incendiary magazine
meh damage, good utility, load this into the chamber and then load stun ammo if you wanna fuck up backliners. OR switch your gun off burst and use incen ammo to set half of frontline on fire to make them fuck off for a while.

image
A19 HV high impact magazine
your stun ammo, you will use this for most engagements, grab alot of it.
stun xenos capping your friends, stun lurkers and runners in backline to kill them, break their will, break their xeno spines

some tips:

dont be a coward, do good, dont sleep in FOB, always be on the move
know cooldowns of the enemy, play xeno a bit. learn them. know your limits
use the tacmap to see the dead, recover them.
if you get disarmed once, it takes roughly 3 secs for tackle to reset, dodge for 3 secs then fight again
fracs on legs increase the chance for you to get tackled. do not backline with fracs. you will get capped.
grab a pistol, use the pistol to disarm traps, i recommend the M4AE (high dmg) or 88mod (AP)
always watch for traps. never drop your guard.

new tips i forgot to add:
traps (both hugger and acid ones) alert xenos, good xenos will come to the area to hunt you, same with destroying clusters, etc
binos MAKE SOUNDS when used, scopes do not.
also.
good luck and have fun.

by the way i heard that silencers dont trigger trap alarms in hivemind? maybe true? dunno
someone try that out

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Good stuff, important to remember that the cloak is a scam and its not to be fully relied upon. With nothing in between you and a xeno its pretty useful, and on weeds makes it really hard to see you, but if there’s any wall between you they can still see you quite clearly with their xray.

Lotta new scouts like to dick around as if they’re actually invisible, and gets em killed very easily, especially in cramped places or around the caves. Instead, try to play in the open, keeping xenos a good distance away but with no obscuring walls between ya.

If you are near multiple xenos in the open, move slowly whilst cloaked. They will notice someone blazing at full speed.

If you feel like you can’t leave a situation fast enough and know someone is aware of you, rest/lay down on the ground. You won’t be hit by most of the xenos area attacks like the defenders swing.

If you are spotted and engaged whilst cloaked, throw your M4RA away to distract them

you dont need MDs imo, use binocs and sound for spatial awareness
don’t disarm traps unless absolutely necessary, disarming them will get compentent xenos come and search the area for the person who triggered them.
use the 2X scope to slime engage backliners for them to unable to react to your uncloak. :yum:

BINOS DO.

Another good thing to think about as a scout is your not just anti backline or a finisher. Sometimes the best spot is being a cloaked pfc that +1s a fight a xeno thought was safe.

Keeping an MD in your suit slot is very nice for quickly being able to turn it off/on as well as directional pings, but as others say, it’s ultimately optional after a certain skill threshold. Much more valuable is the ability to store your M4RA on your suit slot and rest under a group of xenos sweeping the area after you surgically nab a kill. On weeds with no walls around for them to wallhack your cloak, resting will allow you to escape basically any situation as long as you’re not bleeding.

Carry bandages. Carry splints. Especially as a newer Scout, you do NOT want those blood trails giving you away while you’re already panicking. You do NOT want to have to walk all the way back to the FOB with shaky hands after Prime Lurker AB-CD just snapped your leg with a single lunge combo, waiting for invisible death because you never took splints to get back to hunting the damn thing with your busted gun.

Play more conservatively than you think you need to. Your gun is busted, but not overpowered. You cannot crutch overconfidence with it, so don’t. You got this.

After one too many times falling for a carrier hug in the most bullshit spot hidden by a one pixel sprite item, I have focused on being a frontline scout UNLESS I have a squad of 4-5 fraggers with me in backline.

Otherwise you just walk into random traps that you should be able to see but cannot since they are hidden with the most abuseable sprites and get capped / killed near damn instantly.

Or worse, max gamma Prime / Ancient warrior comes out of nowhere and grabs you while your in cloak. See ya, spec round!
