Three World War and Rage War had the USCM and Preds allying with eachother on a massive scale lol, they definetely know about their existence in the AVPverse at this point

Rage war is set like three hundred years in the future as it’s a sequel to sea of sorrow, three world war doesn’t have a specific date but is probably later.

AVP2010 on the other hand actually occurs sometime around where CM takes place, and the VP78 from that game is in CM.

Preds are unknown to marines, the only people who know are OWLF.

Also i’m not sure how canon AVP (the comic series not the games) are to CM.

hello hi recently I’ve been loving how the predator whitelist is turning out - er apart from my one experience with CIC getting HPCed to fucking oblivion mid round think you remember that

most predators are currently very good people in terms of knowing when to Perma and when to drop a fight etc, they’ve been doing a really good job on that

I’ve also read you’re adding ghost spots and an additional hunting ground for preds, I LOVE you for that really gives both ghosts and preds something to do and not have 10 of them in the same map

my real only complaint is that preds should stick to the engagement, I see here and there predators who disengage from 1v3s against marines etc to heal. while yes, they technically(?) can, I think they should really stick to engagements they start until one side dies, might not have explained this the best

also, again, revise how Almayer gear/body retrievement is done, I really did not enjoy CIC getting bombed in that one specific round, perhaps more care was needed?

also also for any marine main reading, for the love of god shoot the 2 meter alien covered in human guts, they aren’t an adorable rouny you take selfies with

I can understand peoples feelings of CIC/ship being thrown into chaos but I really love when it happens. Spices things up.

when i go OT mid round, wake up with a self defense kit and told theres a Jamaican aboard, i get very excited, almost killed one to

fair, fair, I just didn’t like the part where the entire CIC staff was either injured or dead and both groundside & shipside consoles being broken

I think thats my main gripe about predators.

They have no slowdown even when near crit, so they can engage, nuke your health pool (especially since after the first hit or two your a sitting duck due to low HP + fractures) then run away to full heal with their immense amount of heals. Predators do not suffer any permanent injuries either from what ive seen.

So the predators that have played long enough engage like xenos do; they nuke one or two dudes, run away in cloak when they get low, heal in cloak, repeat.

Either predators get slowdown or permanent injuries after awhile or they need to stop running from fights they start. Im ok with dying to a pred if he stays and fights but if he just runs at runner speed away after im near crit because he got scared of 2 other marines, then there is 0 reason to ever fight them since they can perma kill you and you can’t reliably do so against them unless your a Demo and hit a direct rocket or a pyro spec with blue flame (or research flamers / stims but thats end game content).

As for xenos, its the same issue except xenos cannot get defibbed if they die (though this doesn’t really matter since preds cloak and drag your body across the map if your a marine which is essentially a perma kill), so its even worse for them when preds fight then run.

i can not talk about this other than saying that what happened to you was not allowed

predators are very easy to kill by a skilled and a equipped marine with AP rounds, although them just running away from every fight is a spirit of the WL honorcode break and should be reported

so called skilled and equipped marines when theres a corner on cm (ancient yautja combat technique)

I just don’t have much respect for preds. A marine fighting a pred or most aliens 1vs1 is always the one with the actual cajones and deserved bragging rights if he wins and everyone knows it.

True. However, I do like preds who really take the time to RP.

Predators are a concept that would never have been added to the game if it were introduced today. Which is further made into a stain on its legacy when you consider the initial implementation of the concept was nothing more than a pet project for the original server hosts, and who were more likely to drop admin bombs on people who disrespected their “OC” concepts and of which the honour code practically gave them free reign to murder everything.

I feel Stalker’s efforts have helped elevate the whitelist, but at the end of the day I have come to believe that the concept of Predators is a difficult faction to balance of which if Stalker were not around, I’d be advocating for its removal. Perhaps Predators are better friends to Nuke Ops or Shadowlings of SS13 than they are in CM.

A third party faction that is so powerful they could annihilate half the server, but whom are tempered as such they are often reduced to mere observers who occasionally may try to kill someone. I think this is the reason why you’d often get half a dozen people jumping in to play as a Predator as soon as any Predator gear is taken shipside, for self-evident reasons.

Predators struggle to generate any kind of atmosphere, xenomorphs literally don’t care about predators with their thermal vision and marines are too busy fighting the real threat, or their best response is a five second :open_mouth: moment before moving on.

Personally, I felt I wasn’t really achieving anything playing as a Predator, as all I could do is observe, occasionally hunt someone who would usually be more pissed off at the event and waste time setting up minor scenes of interest only for them to be ignored or blown up.

Or maybe I am just jaded at the concept.

This is my fundamental issue with preds in a nutshell - the role never grew out of its shell of being an admin-only griefer role.

The only reason they’re tolerable is down to a bunch of rules constraining pred players AND they actually follow those rules.
(It is not hard to imagine a day when that’s no longer the case.)

I don’t mind, for now, because if I don’t want to play with preds, I can just ignore them, which is what I usually do.

However, if they were well integrated into the gameplay they wouldn’t be something you just ignore. They would be like xenos vs marines - you engage or die.

Getting to that point means preds can’t run around at hypersonic speed, dodging fights, being effectively immune to almost all stuns, cloaking and healing to full health in 30 seconds, shrugging off massive damage never breaking bones, tanking an entire magazine of AP ammo, and so on.

I think some people see this as just hating on preds and wanting to destroy what’s fun about them - but that’s not the case. I want preds to fit the game. I want preds to have fun stalking people, I want players to actually freak out when they hear clicking noises in the trees. I want isolated marines to get attacked by a pred like a lurker might, but for the marine to actually have a chance too, I want xenos to have to actually fight a pred or die. None of this “honor rule” stuff.

Right now they’re just an observer+ with some minor interference with rounds. They’re not integrated as a part of the game and can’t be without completely upending how strong they are. They’re currently just a minimally extended version of their old admin-griefer role, and whether preds are in a round or not is basically immaterial to it rather than completely changing or complementing it.

And maybe the idea of turning preds into a fully integrated faction is a bad one. I think it’d add more to the game, but I’m also not upset with how preds currently are; I just think they could’ve been done so much better than this.

It’s funny, because it wasn’t even a pet project for the server hosts, it was one of the vice-host equivalents that coded it and merged it without the okay of anyone when the host was away from home for like a week…

Abby code

Never felt how to fully express my feelings towards predators before, but this encapsulates my perspective pretty well. Yeah, absolutely agree (God, the Apophis abomb clip is never not funny). They just feel out of place in their current state, as if they were a relic that never kept pace with CM as it evolved.

As much as I’d like to see predators feel more integrated rather than an outlier in the game, I doubt such a large-scale rework is really feasible.
Honestly, the hunting ground for dead players to run around in sounds like a pretty good solution- People aren’t going to shy away from confrontation there, and it’ll cut down on the recent predator overpopulation. I can’t help but feel a little sad they’ll become increasingly delegated to essentially a ghost babysitting role instead of interacting in the actual game though.
