So basically charger has 25 rear armor, 35 side armor, and 50 front armor. On top of 780 HP. If you hit charger in the front, it will barely make a dent.
The purpose of charger’s directional armor is to make charger fun by giving charger a strong and weak spot for both marines to engage with and for the charger player to consider.
However, in practice, you can just spam-click at marines to face them nearly all the time to get basically permanent 50 armor.
For context, base crusher only has 30 armor and 700 HP. Charger, the caste designed to be a faster but less tanky version of base, is more tanky then crusher based on stats. Base does have the shield, but charger has speed.
Anyways, I think this needs to be fixed, because it is highly exploitative and makes you near-invincible if you’re good enough.
Also maybe charger’s back armor should be nerfed to 15 or 20 armor instead of 25 to give marines more of a chance to deal some damage from behind. 25 armor is still a lot for the back.
In short, fix the spam-click exploit that lets you get near permanent 50 armor.
ap/armor just needs reworked in general. its such a horrible system:
oh you have armor that your kit is based around? ok you get completely invalided because someone loaded ap mags and they will melt you because you have the hp of a glorified drone
oh you have a weapon you want to deal damage with? sorry buddy youre shooting at something with armor so that + damage falloff you’ll need at least 3-5 business mags to kill your target
Unless it is specific to charger crusher, it simply does not.
That is just 5 armor less on the rear, not that much of a “weak spot”. With regular Pulse Rifle bullets it is just 4 damage (25/21 according to wiki) difference, while front armor makes that round do whole 7 damage.
The weakspot isn’t weak.
However crusher isn’t as impactfull as any other T3. Hive with most T3s being crushers, no matter if chargers, just dies.
So even with this exploit it isn’t that good, arguably underpowered.
Crusher, the so called “xenomorph tank” has barerly 5 armor and 100hp more than regular ravager and some explosion ressistance. Woah, what a tank!
Don’t look at hedgehog, who with full shards has 45 armor everywhere, fire immunity, shield that makes it immune to all bullets and even shoots shards out.
There is barerly any point in touching this unintended charger feature, he sucks anyway.
So it doesn’t slow you down, you simply can’t do it when charging, but can do so when just walking, the point of this having no drawbacks and not being intended still stands, as directional lock is disabled for charger, even though direction locking actually slows you down, so it would have severe drawback and be much less practical than spam clicking is already.
It should be the other way around, clicking somewhere shouldn’t change what direction charger faces, but he should be allowed to direction lock.
But as I said, crushers are weak, so it might just stay the way it is.
The spam clicking you’re referring to is called “moon walking” and is almost as old as CM itself. It’s a well established and long documented technique, and dare I say it, feature.
Some of the best documented crusher mains to have ever played such as Toroic wrote about moonwalking in extensive detail, and there are archived posts from NINE YEARS AGO talking about the technique both on the old forums and the discord. The details of crusher’s front armor were known before CM even went open source; back in the days where marine players would aim for the head because of bullshit rumors about it doing more damage. When you mutate into a charger the info text even informs you that you can no longer lock your direction.
I mean. I think it kinda makes sense since if you are JUST using your 50 armor and 780 HP to its fullest, you deal less damage then most T2s. So you are effectivly a buffed fortified defender, that moves slower than a marine.
