What rule(s) were broken?:

Synthetic Programming and Guidelines

Whitelist in question:

Synthetic

Description of the incident:

Ronnie acted against synthetic programming by deliberately hunting down and capturing me, a CLF in the AO that had fired on a marine ONE time and killed ZERO.
Additionally he claimed to have done it to a second CLF this round as well.
He hunted my character down FAR from the FOB in pitch darkness with no marines around.

Evidence:

Synthetic Programming states that…
“If the threat is non-human or from a hostile faction, such as the CLF, Marine Law does not apply to them, so the synth can subdue or even kill them if necessary. However, synths are unable to perform active combat duties and will not perform combat specific orders, meaning they must not actively engage in combat unless in self preservation or in the defense of a USCMC Personnel. This would include telling a Synthetic unit to go capture something from the middle of an enemy base, or instructing a Synthetic to use flashbangs to daze CLF on the frontlines.”
I’d like to call attention to the wording: The synth can subdue or even kill them if necessary. Keywords IF NECESSARY. I had engaged with a singular Marine and didn’t even kill them or seriously wound them.
Furthermore, the wording: They must not actively engage in combat unless in self preservation or in the defense of USCMC personnel. I was not actively attacking personnel or Ronnie, as a matter of fact I was running away from him in the pitch dark. He was hunting me down with a motion detector far away from the FOB and ANY marine elements. You may say that ANY CLF present in the AO is a threat to personnel, but you can also say that of xenomorphs, and there’s a clear precedent that the shipborne synthetic is not a ‘frag xenomorphs’ role.

Hi, I’m Ronnie! I saw you lurking in the dark with a gun out, south of the FOB, presumably waiting to ambush marines from the dark. So I thought I’d make it so both you and the marines avoided harm, and subdued you nonlethally.

My issue is with the fact that you engaged in combat when it wasn’t necessary. You can’t chase a lurker or a runner away from FOB and kill or capture it like this. Furthermore the synthetic programming includes a pretty specific example forbidding things like this.

Hello FlamingCanuck & CastorTroy,

After thoroughly reviewing the evidence and logs related to this report, the council has come to a conclusion on the situation. A CLF fighter was firing at Marines at the FOB and in the general vicinity of it. They went to reposition after in another ambush location which was stopped by Ronnie, resulting in the capture of the CLF fighter nonlethally.

During this situation Ronnie was acting in the best interest of the USCM to preserve Marines who were shot at, and would potentially be shot at again. Given the timeframe which the second engagement occured(~20 seconds), Ronnie should have requested assistance from nearby Marine forces before moving to disarm the CLF fighter, as making contact wasn’t required in the immediate moment. However, the engagement of the Marines and the CLF staking out the FOB are both adequate reasons for the Synthetic to preserving USCM life.

Simply put, if Ronnie did not intervene the probability of multiple Marines being shot to death from the dark is extremely high - with the first engagement showing a clear and present danger. His decision to move ~14 tiles was excessive without reinforcements and could have posed a danger to himself if it was outside of this specific context. Ronnie will be spoken with on how to better approach similar situations in the future. However, this report will be denied as the CLF agent was actively engaging(yes, shooting Marines is the maximum level of hostilities even if you don’t manage to kill any) and threatening USCM forces in and around the FOB. Ronnie responded by a nonlethal capture which is more than magnanimous given the severity of the engagement, which allows for better RP from all sides involved.

Have a good day everyone!
