CM-SS13 takes place in 2182. The (final) A.W. batch was put into service in 2181. The official sourcebooks max A.W. empathy at 3(!) and the A.W.s can’t be effectively retired due to a lack of socialization & independence. The program is shuttered.
It makes sense that the Almayer would want to hold onto their last batch of super-reliable soldiers as long as possible, hence why they’re not part of the initial deployment.
I see no reason why anyone would disagree with this PR, it’d add some fun flavor to Foxtrot.
So what I’m posting this thread for is “A.W. Name” ideas
Alternatively; No, but make it so that if you’re respawning with a random name (such as if you already died on your primary character and got the foxtrot slot while ghosted), THEN you spawn with an A.W. name.
A.Ws aren’t actually these “super reliable” soldiers, they are actually very unreliable and require constant mind wipes and such, really they’re only good at following orders and being super loyal.
Plus i guarantee most people don’t know what an A.W is.
also A.Ws are in game, you just have to make a character for them.
Well yeah man respectfully I know all this. This is why they make sense as Foxtrot.
CMSS13 canonically takes place a year after the program was shelved & the final batch put in service. They’re a rare commodity at this point.
The numerous issues with the program are well known at this time in lore, that’s why the program was shelved. And since the program is canonically shelved in lore — maybe the support structure for mindwipes & reconditioning isn’t there anymore. Foxtrot is thus composed of “problem A.W.s” that command can’t retire because they’re fucking psychopaths, and they can’t fix because the funding for doing so is gone. So the Almayer keeps them in the freezer until they’re absolutely needed.
It kind of lines up with how insane Foxtrot tends to act, too.
There’s also the silver lining that having an actual squad composed of A.W.s makes the normal A.W. players seem less snowflakey/out of place. If we decide Foxtrot is for “problem A.W.s”, then the fate of all these A.W. snowflakes is to eventually end up transferred to Foxtrot to sleep in cold storage for a very, very long time. There’s something cool about that IMO.
Whenever I wakeup as or wakeup foxtrot I usually refer to them as a Penal unit. It is funny to me and makes sense that they just cryo’d all the shitters so they wouldn’t have to deal with them.
Almayer CO is the only (last) A.W. experiment, HQ decided that the best way to get rid of him is to send him into outer rims where he hopefully dies exposing one CLF cell, or xeno hive.
That is why Nuke and other stuff is locked behind ARES/DEFCON. Hell, you can’t even pilot the ship in any way other than to order ARES to do anything and ARES is controlled more, or less by HQ.
Perfectly reasonable for a bunch of strangers in a game who are supposed to be in a military, but act crazy.
One can brainstorm a lot, since CM lore ain’t exactly AvP lore.
Depends, how unhinged are his B.E.s? If they’re particularly unhinged executions, then he fits the bill for an A.W. – they probably keep his ass thawed out for the reason the above poster said.
Ain’t like they’re sending the Almayer to peacetime colonies.
