Synthetic Info:

Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:

Paul

What is your Synthetic’s Personality?

Paul is Lasalle Bionational’s attempt to get support/backing from hipsters and skaters, thus meaning Paul is often rather casual in his demeanor and often uses informal slang, the side effect of this is that it he has become rather popular with the grunts in the colonial marines. If he were to talk to a marine who was angry for example, he would say something along the lines of “You need to take a chill pill man!” or “Chillax dude!”, he would become more formal equating to the rank/situation.

How will they react to the different ranks of the USCM, what would they talk about in a one on one conversation? What are their interests? What is an advertisement logline that could be written for them?

While Paul is casual, he would tone down his quips if talking to his CO about an important thing relating to the operation. (He wouldn’t say “That’s not very rad” if CIC just killed 20 marines in a FOB OB)

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

Synthetic to me is incredibly fun, and I will do my best to explain why. The freedom, RP and utility you have has always stood out to me as a great aspect of the role. Synthetic can spend 20 minutes roleplaying with a group of marines, and then go and save a marine from going perma, or help out a rookie combat tech with an issue they may have with a device.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

My most memorable interaction with a synthetic has to be with Day.

I was a CLF survivor that had snuck shipside and was being hunted by the onboard marines. I had ran into Day (the colony synthetic), and instead of apprehending me, she spoke to me and asked me why I had joined the CLF. We then proceeded to sit down by a table and spend the next 20 minutes talking about the morals of working under the major factions such as WY, the UPP, the UA, and the CLF.

Synthetic Character Story:

Skills:

Engineering:

Incredibly, I may struggle with something obscure like making a spear/stunprod, but I can do a large majority of engineering without thinking about it.

Command:

Fairly, I can use the overwatch consoles no bother and I would call myself a decent commander. (Not that synths do much of that)

Medical:

Incredibly, I could list off how you do each surgery without thinking about it, I am more than confident in my surgery and medical skills.

Requisitions:

While I have fairly low hours as CT, I have done a large portion of my time in req as either a survivor or an MT. I could confidently handle req solo.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

Example 1: I am returning to the FOB with a wounded marine and a spitter proceeds to attack me and the wounded marine. I could fend them off while running back to a safe area or until they had fallen into crit/ran off to heal.

Example 2: I am in a caded location E.g. FOB/survivor holdout and unattended cades are being attacked by a defender, I would be able to slap the defender until it has stopped attacking the cades.

Final Info:

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?

Nope

Are you currently banned from our Discord?

Nope

Let us know why you were discord banned.

Was never banned

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?

I am under the impression that due to me being removed for inactivity, I am able to re-use some answers and my story. If not, I apologise.
As I feel it is relevant to this application, I have 188 hours as synthetic survivor, 98.6 hours as shipside synthetic and 21.7 hours as working joe.

Guhhhh, half my app vanished

Edit: I have replaced as much of what was missing as I could, If I have missed anything important, I apologise.

Edit 2: I have just realised I forgot to add a link to my story when I was fixing my missing segments of my app. Unless I am told otherwise, I will place the story here so I don’t break the no-editing after 2 hours rule.

You already had the whitelist before, and I can’t recall a single negative interaction with you, so I just have a single question to ask.

  • What do you think about the ideal state you want the synthetics to be in and what would you do to move towards it as a member of the whitelist again?

I believe that the ideal state of synth is close to what is the current state of synthetic.

What makes synthetic synthetic to me is the fact that it is such a multi-faceted role, while CO is primarily focused on commanding marines and predator is primarily focused on killing/fighting/insulting stuff, synthetic is the one WL that has the most amount of freedom, as you can, quite literally, do whatever you can imagine as synthetic (Minus fighting, rulebreaks and etc). Want to assist the marines while they push into the hive? You can do that. Want to spend a round RPing with the CL? You can do that. Want to spend a round in a specific department? You can do that. Want to spend a round tending to the colony bar? You can do that. You can even become a CLF synthetic and kill those marines that always call you robot. And all of this can be done throughout the course of a few normal rounds, provided you have some luck. To me, preserving this freedom of choice is paramount to what makes the synthetic role so great.

Sure, a couple people might bitch about the way you chose to play that round, but you will always face scrutiny from others based on the way you play as a WLed role, which sucks (Can’t please everyone at once I guess).

But, if you were to boil it down to focus almost exclusively on RP, it’d result in it become one-dimensional and turn it into CL/CC+ (Minus the ability to tell marines to get lost). And boiling it down into exclusively support would result in it becoming a mix of MT+ and HM+ (Minus the ability to shoot guns).

Though, I feel that with the nerfs in January, the recent guideline updates, the abusable game-mechanics that could be abused being removed/made into a guideline violation. That the current synthetic has an equal mix of RP, freedom and utility. As far as I can tell, synthetic is in an almost ideal state.

The one gripe I have is the fact that (from what I can tell), if you are the shipside synthetic and are ordered to go down and help marines by the XO/CO, you have to go down, cutting any RP you were doing with someone short. Though, the shipside synthetic is, at the end of the day, owned by the USCM as a support tool, so I can’t exactly say that it’s unreasonable to expect them to want you utilized on the ground.

In terms of what I personally would do. I would probably just keep playing synthetic the way I always have, with the rule of cool being more important than having the most effective loadout. There will of course always be those who attempt to have the most efficient loadouts, and while I don’t think that’s the ideal way to play a role like synthetic, restricting the freedom someone has on how to play such an interchangeable role should only be done if it massively effects gameplay, which synthetic to me, doesn’t currently do.

A lot of what you said resonates with me and what I’ve been told by others, synthetic is truly a build your own adventure type of character and I feel the direction it goes towards should keep this in mind, while maintaining that immersion and setting that defines CM’s best moments.

The one gripe I have is the fact that (from what I can tell), if you are the shipside synthetic and are ordered to go down and help marines by the XO/CO, you have to go down, cutting any RP you were doing with someone short… …I can’t exactly say that it’s unreasonable to expect them to want you utilized on the ground.

It’s a reasonable concern and I’m glad you said it, I can’t promise this will change in the near future, but it shows that you’re keeping it real when it comes to the role.

I believe that the ideal state of synth is close to what is the current state of synthetic.

Lastly, I don’t fully agree with this, because I do think it can be much more than what it is at the moment, but we will need opinionated players who are willing to speak their mind eloquently like you have, thank you for answering.

Good to see a reapplicant.

As previously stated you’ve had the WL before, but it should be clear by now that the WL will not be run in the same manner as before. That being said, how would Paul approach the task of setting up the communications tower if ordered by the XO to do so?

While it entirely depends on how the XO stages the order. I’ll respond as if they had asked me to go solo and fix it.

A response I’d use as Paul would be something along the lines of, “Captain, my man, I’d love to set up the comms tower for you, but there’s far too many hostiles down here for me to go alone without risking my life. I’m more than happy to head there with a group of marines though!”

And, depending on whether or not the XO orders some marines to escort me there, I’d either fix the comms tower with a group of marines with me or leave it alone if no marines are sent with me.
