Command Knowledge:

How familiar are you with command positions?

Over the years, I have accumulated a total of 240~ hours in various command roles, excluding squad leader. I am fully comfortable leading and commanding other players and I find it enjoyable to do so. I have no issues leading different departments ranging from engineering, medical, req, military police, and CIC. I particularly enjoyed playing as Squad Leader and department heads during my initial years within CM, and at later years developed a liking for XO. From there, my interest grew and now I often find myself trying to roll XO and SL. Overall, I am familiar with every command position available to me and I have no problems playing them.

Character Information:

Why did your character decide to become the CO of a ship?

Whitelock was pressured by her parents in her early life to become an engineer for society, to build and develop. However, Whitelock wanted to explore the vastness of space within the Marine Corps. Whitelock, shortly after getting her diploma, attended OCS and was assigned to the first fleet as a second lieutenant. She transferred out to the second fleet shortly after serving her time. Being in the Marine Corps she slowly bonded with the men and women of the corps, all of them with different backgrounds and stories, all coming from different parts of humanity simply intrigued her. The corps grew on her warmly. Over the years, Whitelock came to take a liking towards her ship, the weaponry, and everything about it, as if it was almost dazzling for her. It was these strong emotions and her desire to lead her marines and ship into battle with a burning passion that allowed her to chase the rank of Major.

How did your character attain the position of CO?

Over six missions deployed and led efficiently, with many more minor missions to talk about, Whitelock was a high-quality officer. With a total service time of 10 years, she was simply one of the better candidates to select from to become the commander of a ship. However, all of these reasons come secondary to the main reason why she was promoted to Major. It was Operation Rogue-Arrest that led to this point. During the operation, a UPP heavy destroyer declared “rogue” by the government was opening fire onto hospital ships protected by galactic laws of engagement. During the battle, Whitelock worked closely with the entirety of the USS Celestial to devise the best tactics and how to perform them, leading them to victory. However, this battle wasn’t without its flaws, while the space fight was won, USS Celestial suffered major hull damage, and could not stop the last-ditch boarding made by the rogue ship. During the conflict inside USS Celestial, multiple marines died including Major Rudy, which brought about chaos within the ship. In the end, the marines aboard USS Celestial were able to eliminate all the boarders with only Whitelock and 2 overwatch officers to command them. Now with the open position in USS Celestial, she was elected for promotional evaluation by High Command.

Command Actions:

When do you believe it’s appropriate to pardon a prisoner?

To issue a pardon, in my opinion, should only be done to preserve the gameplay of the player and hold up the spirit of the law positively. Pardons should be given out when the receiver truly deserves it, their crime made for the better of the operation or on absolute accident. Going from this logic, a pardon should not be given out to anyone who hinders the operation with intent or commits a crime with no logic to benefit the operation. In addition to everything above, the receiver should always be remorseful of their actions alongside wanting to return to duty for them to receive a pardon.

Give some examples of when you would or would not use pardon.

  • An Alpha Squad technician is hacking into the tools room south of the Alamo, breaking in, hacking the vendors, and bringing them aboard the Alamo. They are arrested for this, I overhear the MP talking about the arrest and come to investigate, and the technician states that they need the equipment on the ground side to function better. This technician would be allowed a pardon and told to inform engineering and policing personnel on general radio the next time around. Bringing down critical engineering equipment such as vendors is for the benefit of the operation, and the technician is in the clear for such an action but is still reminded they should at least announce it.

  • Any new players breaking general marine law without the intent of griefing. Let’s be honest here, they are new players and if they do not have the intent of griefing, they are probably having some trouble getting used to OOC and IC rules & mechanics of the server. They should simply be given more leniency IC-side to make them have a better time aboard CM. An example of this would be a private firing a single round into someone in briefing and then freaking out/panicking over it. They would be allowed a pardon and preferably assigned a mentor/SEA for them to learn a bit better from.

  • Five infected marines are brought aboard, there is only one surgery-capable doctor in medbay, the other surgery-capable doctor being kept in the brig for theft. In this specific case, the doctor would be pardoned as it is for the better of the operation. There are simply way too many infected personnel and a total of one doctor to attend to all of them, having two would not kill the life out of anyone.

  • The scout specialist, while invisible, decided to steal the chief medical officer’s issued sidearm. He was then caught and arrested for this after the CMO reported it. The scout is remorseful and is willing to go ahead and deploy without bothering anyone else. In this case, the scout would not be receiving a pardon. A specialist is an important asset, but they are not critical for the well-being of the operation, missing one or two drops is not a big deal. They would be serving their time as a lesson.

  • A smart gunner from the Bravo Squad grabs a megaphone and repeatedly speaks nonsense during the briefing. When asked to stop by military police, they instead throw the megaphone at them and start running. After being caught, they are arrested and ask for a pardon following their denied appeal. This marine would not be receiving a pardon. Disturbing the briefing in such a way is in no way something I would tolerate and as such they will serve their time.

When do you believe it’s appropriate to use a Battlefield Execution?

From an in-character point of view, Whitelock would shy away from conducting battlefield executions to the best of her ability, as she has a burning love for the corps and the marines. She would instead be more comfortable with arrests. However, she will not shy away from a battlefield execution if she needs to conduct it for the better being of everyone else, keeping her authority and order. From an out-of-character point, I do not like to permanently take out anyone from the round, even in brig they can find roleplay opportunities and a way to have fun. I would use BEs on mostly LRP situations, such as being salty over a failed operation and inviting a mutiny.

Now for my opinions, as stated, battlefield executions should only be held when the one receiving is highly LRP, undermines authority, or is a direct threat to the well-being of the operation and the people around them. The most basic example of this would be to BE someone being suggestive or explicit towards me, not only is it against the rules but heavily LRP.

Give some examples of when you would or would not use Battlefield Execution.

  • I have deployed onto the front to act as a guide for the marines pushing; when the push fails and the marines fall back, the Delta Squad Leader comes up to me to yell to my face, “Fuck you CO, your plans can eat my dirty fucking ass.”, after this statement, I simply warn the lead to watch their mouth, however, they go on about to say “This CO is fucking stupid, don’t listen to her bullshit plans.” on the radio. This simply warrants an immediate BE. It is overly hostile and is undermining my authority as a commander while inviting others to do the same.

  • A marine that is being searched for capital charges is reported to be armed and dangerous. I see the said marine trying to break into CIC. At that point no warnings will be given to the marine, even if they simply wanted to tell me something, had no ill intention, or the similar, I cannot confirm any of those. Trying to come into CIC while wanted on capital charges and armed is getting you a direct BE.

  • During a hijack, I catch a glimpse of an MT destroying walls directly to our flanks. I order them to stop destroying walls, as they grant no advantage, and are simply a pure disadvantage for us. The MT stays silent and refuses to listen, continuing to destroy the walls. At this point they are not receiving another warning, we are already on hijack and they are opening up walls to our flank without any explanation after being ordered to stop. They will be receiving a BE on the grounds of sabotage to direct operation.

  • During the briefing, after I explain my plan and setup for the day, one of the marines goes out of their way to yell out; “This plan honestly fucking sucks, did you learn how to plan in your local supermarket?” following with inviting others to take a different route with them. While this opens the grounds for undermining authority, a BE will not be given. I will instead let the MPs deal with this person, as there is no reason to permanently take them out of the game. They’ll be staying in the brig.

  • In any situation where the BE could cause excessive damage to the ship, operation, or otherwise others around the receiver. In this case, the person who deserved a BE would instead be getting arrested, even if it means having to deputize someone to do it. I will simply refuse to BE someone if it will break the game enjoyment on a major scale for others.

  • Anyone who kills Jones. They deserve a battlefield execution. No questions asked.

I had you as my XO for two rounds and I believe I’ve seen enough to make and educated vote.

Unfortunately I do not believe that you currently have the bare minimum of communication and leadership skills that is expected from a CO. Nor do I believe that you can improve quickly enough, for this application to pass. Thus I have to vote -1.

My suggestion to you is that you should prioritize working on your execution skills above all else. Maybe instead of playing XO, start playing SO until you’re at least a very solid SO, if not regularly the best one in CIC. Another area to focus is on building up working relationships with your subordinates. Try to communicate(as in talk on the radio) with them more, instead of just spamming generic announcements. There’s a lot more advice that I can give, but those two areas are your biggest weaknesses at the moment.

Good day,

Thanks for the feedback, however I do not recall myself playing with you as a XO or even SL for that matter. However I will be taking your advice, I myself usually give direct, clear and understandable annoucements. Playing command yourself, you would know that pushing out complex annoucements will simply get you unread by most people. Informative and understandable annoucements are much better suited for my style.

For relationships and such, I know most people that play command within my timezone, I’m close with most of them. I usually will give the more “specilized” tasks from the radio, I have the ability to micromanage giving orders and maintaining the operation at the same time. As such if I want something specific done, I usually refrain from using the annoucements to ask someone directly from the readio. i.e. “Alpha SL, blow up that wall to your south.” done this many times without any problems. I will also warn every personnel of their flanks, such as IOs, FOB, comms or the front when sensors are up, I do not ignore anything happening on the TACMAP.

Hi, i have been SL under your solo XO runs, as well as XO and you being SL.

As SL you have called my orders stupid and were unable to follow them properly, this was only one instance as such I won’t make an opinion from this.
However, as XO I have quite a few remarks. Firstly, I often struggle to receive proper communication when asking questions on the command channel as SL. Usually it’s either ignored or you respond after quite some time.
You can roleplay well, but I don’t see you being very active inside cic bubble.
Overall, you need to react to others more and focus on responding faster.
Other than that nice story

Edit: I take everything back, recent game ID:24367 changed my opinion. Nice step up. I hope you’ll keep this in your CO carrier  +1

Howdy!
I played at least 4 or 5 times under you as Milo when you were SL and XO.
SL:
I do not have problems with your SL play and compared to most SLs its above average aka good.
From my experience you were pretty responsive.
XO:
As XO I have really just one problem but that’s a problem I have to most XOs. When I played few times under you as XO you were hit or miss. For like 2 rounds you were very responsive and gave callouts. There was one round that you were more silent but still didn’t disappoint.
Both:
I didn’t see you doing too much pre drop RP which can impact the rate at which others will listen to your sentences and orders (Also improves reputation)
When I asked you about few things in game and after that read the story I can say that the answers matched. Big point in my book to not make things on the run and remember your story.

TLDR: You are good but please more RP and callouts (Announcements / Squad message) over all +1

Hello! I am currently staying at my uni dorms, as such I use my hotspot from my phone to connect and play, to say the least I disconnect from the game if I make too many https requests (opening tabs, watching cameras etc.) as such, my days are also hit or miss, sometimes I have great ping and some days I can’t even walk 3 meters without dissconnecting.

FOR EVERYONE!
I will be on vacation from 18th to 29th, on those days I will have the best connection as I will be home. Those are my peak performance times.

Thank you much, again, refer to above. Most of my competency is related to my ping, otherwise I attempt to keep track of everything going on. I take feedback very seriously and try to improve myself based on the comments I recieve.

I am afraid that I have to -1 this application as during today’s round on Trijent you have shown a major disregard towards intel provided to you by marines as well as incapability to direct marines to recoverable casualties using tacmap.

I have been under command of Frost Whitelock quite some rounds, most of which as SL, and I belive there’s a lack of map awareness and game sense, I’ve come to see you as a ,abcd CHARGE!! XO rather than someone with a good plan and course of action throught the round. I’ve already voiced my concerns over your commanding many times in rounds, but I haven’t seen any progress.

I truly believe you have potential, but I’d like to see more SL hours. That’s how you’ll build the background to see the game more clearly and better understand things which must be acted upon.

I believe you’re not ready for the role as of now. -1

This is a +1 from me

Somehow during those exact days i was playing lots of SO with you as a XO. And i think you’re a pretty cool XO and definitely will be a good CO aswell

I visit you as CO, I tell you you did a dogshit job, and I bully you and your CIC staff over it.

How do you react?

Considering myself as the CO of the Almayer during an operation, and you as a visiting CO: First and foremost, I am going to take full responsibility of the performance of my CIC team, they are all my men working under my supervision, secondly, it would be clear that you are upset about something, I will be leaving you outside of CIC until you can put your head together and not hinder the CIC during an active operation with your constant harassment. Once things are calm in the CIC, I will be devoting command to the Captain to have a word with what you were so upset about.

These are the steps I am going to follow:

  1. Make sure CIC & the operation is stable before I am to talk to you.
  2. Inform you that all CIC complaints are to go to me with me taking full responsibility.
  3. Have a talk with you about what bothered you once the first quiteria is met.

With all that being said, I am on a 10 hour buss ride back to my university, hence the late response.

I would like to see you do more callouts of recoverable marine bodies. I understand that it is traditionally a job of SO to notify their squad, however I think it is very important for an XO to also take this into account when making announcements. As marines do not possess the live tacmap and rely on command to guide them toward downed marine bodies.

I remember having an XO who randomly reassigned SL’s even when there were actual squad leads present which miffed me greatly. But one thing I could not criticize this XO was their dedication to note out dead marine bodies and made great distinctions are on the locations of their bodies. They even went so far as to circle the bodies on each tacmap update. Being able to prevent permanent death is important in the long run in grinding out the xenos.

You would be correct, I usually let staff officers do the body callouts whenever I’m sure they are competent enough to do so, that allows me to focus solely on the strategy and call-outs, even though I will still make body callouts for major casualties.

However, this is limited to high pop and again, whenever I have good staff officers that I can trust, whenever I play lowpop I go out of my way to radio in body locations, going as far as to even inform close by IOs to attempt recovery. I’ve also been recently marking major / minor casualties in the TACMAP (from 15 days prior to now?).

I’ll however, will take your advice and do more body call outs of lone marines in highpop where I am capable to do so.

Hi,

I’ll give you my two cents on this app.
I’ve seen you as XO before, you have either very good or very bad rounds, remember to play XO not for the WL, you gotta enjoy it.

I’ve seen lack of communication on your end, ignoring marines on critical information such as recovery or enemy push, i’ve seen you do the classic ,abcd charge type of XO, in which its fine, but not if you wanna make it to the top.

I haven’t seen you play MP nor SL. Thats a big no no for me.

If you change your ways i’m sure you can change my mind.

-1

Being CO, puts you in interesting situations some rounds in dealing with the most absolute bullshit coming out of the MP department from time to time, regardless of who is at fault, so Im going to ask a few questions and ask how you would handle it, if it comes around.

1.) You join in a round 20 minutes in, and a large number of Alpha squad members are protesting outside the brig because one of their comtechs we’re arrested for whatever crime. They refuse to deploy and Provost was called but they haven’t responded yet.

2.) CLF agent was brought up on the Alamo and was arrested by the MPs. Said CLF prisoner requested an appeal from the XO, and despite MPs attempting to communicate with said XO multiple times to handle the appeal. The 30 minute timer to handle permabrig sentence appeals ends and MPs are forced to release the CLF Prisoner. CIC is fully staffed by the way.

3.) No CMP or Warden available, and things are getting rather chaotic with the MP department. Arrest procedure isn’t being followed. Prisoners rights are being abused, and at some point there was a jailbreak. CIC is too busy handling the operation and can not spare any personnel to assist.

—————————————

Some of these scenarios are a little insane, but things that have happened, and its cool if you don’t have a suitable answer for some. Just need to gauge your Marine Law knowledge/common sense/de-escalation abilities

I enjoy playing XO a lot honestly, I’ve been playing command roles such as CMO, CMP, CE ever since I joined CM in 2020ish. I did not have the idea of going for CO until I started playing again late 2024.

I’m going to have to protect myself on this, I’ve been working on myself diligently to cover my mistakes, and I take high care in not ignoring communications after some feedback I recieved. If you observe me in any rounds following, you would see that I take great care in the radio, use TACMAP to spot pushes, fallbacks, hive, flanks and recoverables.

image
When I started this application, I had 67 hours in SL, I think you can understand that I have, in fact, been playing lead. Just that you did not see it. For the MP part - I have deep knowledge of the SOP & marine law. Seeing as I’m also attending university this year with midterms coming up, I do not think anyone can blame me for not being able to hop on MP frequently, I’ve been focusing on XO & SL ever since this application was made, and sometimes play some other roles I also enjoy when I’m burnt out.

I can really see this happening in a normal round, now, considering I just woke up, CIC not being able to deal with it & technician having valid charges, the first thing I’m going to do is to grab a megaphone. Most marines will simply head back to the dropship once told so by an CO so as to go by their day, but of course, there will be persisting marines.

To deal with them, firstly, we will be shying away from arresting more marines, getting more arrested can lead to a total mutiny and we really don’t want that. Using the megaphone, I’m going to direct the attention to myself and lead everyone back to the dropship.

If my leading does not work, and things are getting out of control, depending on the current situation, riot gear to deal with the remaining marines might be in order. There is another alternative, that is my pardon power. I could use this as it would be better for the well-being of the operation DEPENDING on the technicians charges. The pardon will be my last resort only in the case everything else fails to soothe the marines down. Again, the pardon will be highly dependant on the crime and intent, but it is a good solution to a possible or ongoing mutiny.

Again, I’m shying away from using BEs here, I’m sure there could be multiple occosions in where I can use the BE to resolve the problem quickly, but in this types of situations, it can simply be adding fuel to the fire. I believe in a case of protest like this, using non-harmful solutions for non-harmful protestors is the best.

Oh boy, this suprisingly happens a lot with CLF, they are simply ignored when they ask for an appeal.

Now first, with the appeal. As far as I’m knowledgable, the marine law applies to CLF agents, and they have, naturally, the ability to appeal to a higher power for their hineous crimes. This appeal was not handled in 30 minutes, and as per, the CLF was allowed to be left “out”. Now, as soon as I wake up and see him being released, I’m going to order Discretionary Detainment. It is a quick and reliable solution to that problem.

Onto the XO. Now, the XO & CMP have the ability to devote appeals to officers or MPs, considering you did not mention a CMP, the XO failed to devote the task to an officer or MP for 30 minutes straight.

That simply YEARNS for neglect of duty, and they will be reciving it. I will be hearing their side of the story after they serve their sentence. They will be serving the said sentence unless there was a geniune reason to delay the appeal such as their life being in danger (somehow with MPs constatly interacting with them for the appeal).

The CLF will be appealing to me or HC/Provost otherwise.

Pretty similar to the first question! However, this one is more focused on MPs being rather incompetent or otherwise incapable of handing policing affairs.

First of all, I’m going to check to see how CIC is doing quickly before heading for the brig, does not hurt to make sure they are handling themselves good.

I will be taking myself into the brig to deal with the chaos. Going to deal with whoever is failing to deal with the arrest procedures and prisoner rights. How you explain it sounds like there is mostly either a griefer, someone very new or otherwise someone incompetent in the department, one or multiple. Depending on the situation, there will most likely be jail times for MPs that have failed to stick to proper procedures. I will also be calling the advisor to teach any new MPs with how arrests are handled if there is one. If needed, I will be sticking around in brig to see it get into proper appreal before heading into CIC.

The last situation is a bit tricky to get around all alone with multiple prisoners already waiting with even more military police that is needed to be dealt with. However, the procedures I will be following is:

  1. Make sure brig is stable with all the prisoners in it.
  2. See who is causing the problems within the department and deal with the accordingly.
  3. Deal with missing prisoner requests and fulfill them (yard access, food etc.).
  4. Assign the SEA if needed to teach anyone new.
  5. Stick around until I am confident that the MP can function without my presence.

Heya, Frost.

I’ve been keeping a loose eye on you- here’s what I have to say:

I’m gonna have to agree with others have said: Your rounds for me have been hit or miss. While I understand that you have connection issues and believe everyone should have an equal chance at doing what they want regardless of hardware IRL conditions, in your case being bound to a mobile hotspot, I feel like theres a lot of issues being overlooked.

Having spotty connection as a CO can have some, really negative consequences for a round. Being disconnected means you miss All logs while disconnected and potentially previous ones.

What does this mean? If you disconnect in an absolute critical moment of the operation, the most favorably looked and relied on person of the entirety of command is out of commission until your XO or someone recognizes it and takes over. Those moments can be the difference.

In addition, one of the strongest abilities in my opinion - the ability to cross reference information from different accounts, generalize it, and figure out a course of action both shipside and groundside will be effectively null. Severely inhibiting your command capabilities.

To give an example, if the Queen screeches at the frontline. You have 2-4 seconds to tell everyone the whos and wheres of what just happened, and if they hold or push. Marines can and will unga without command, and it’s imperative that information is given so Marines know what they’re doing.

Even out of operational command, for instance. If you have to BE someone for a reason, and “can’t even walk 3 meters” as you stated - if you disconnect mid-BE. Whoever you’re BEing can, and probably will retaliate. A clean BE can quickly turn extremely sour in mere moments.

In all honesty, I can relate to you. We both as applicants face the issue of consistency. My best advice I can give is playing when you feel 100% and your connection. I don’t think you have to play 24/7. As long as you can show them you’re consistent with the rounds you play, you’d have a fine shot at getting in. However I am not council and this is my personal opinion.

Other than that, your comprehension of ML and application looks spot-on as you did with the questions. Good stuff.

However, with that. I will remain at a -1 due to the connection and consistency issues I, you, and others have mentioned. I hope you can understand the point of view.
