I have no idea how this hasn’t been done and merged already, it’s been ages.
At this point literally all of us have spawned as CLF, gotten shot once and then died when our frantic knife-finding quest ends in 69 fractures, IB and immense organ damage from shrapnel.
I will pay 9,000 xenocoins to whoever adds knives to CLF plus an extra Arrest-A-Marine MP hitcard for you when you’re Queen, claimable anytime before 28/07/2024.
Thanks for guiding me to it, I think I’ve finished the actual ‘’‘’‘coding’‘’‘’ (copy pasting upp.dm->clf.dm) part, I tested it and it seems to work fine. I can’t get ERT spawns to work though due to it being just me signing up, but all CLF spawnable mobs (Surv, synth, engineer, medic, soldier, specialist, squad leader, cell leader) have UPP boots and knives now (though I believe the CLF cell leader already had them), and the ERT draws from that pool anyways.
All I gotta do now is figure out how tf to actually do a pull request, though the code on my private server is pre-AMR merge. I don’t think it should have any issues though, since to my knowledge there have been no changes to CLF ERT/Survivor spawns since that period of time.

Problem is CLF are supposed to be very poor guerrilla fighters who literally use buckets instead of helmets. Thus them having tacticool boots is a bit questionable. Maybe just put a knife in the inventory? In a bag or even in the mouth. At the very least maybe use the jungle version “/obj/item/clothing/shoes/marine/jungle/knife”
True… Yeah, a knife in the bag would probably fit the theme better. I’m not really sure how the knife would fit though, since a lot of CLF spawn with full, maxxed storage and cosmetics like facewraps. I’ll try it out and see what happens. Ideally someone will later code knives being able to be put into SWAT boots (the kind CLF start with) with corresponding sprites, but eh. I think UPP boots aren’t THAT high a step up from SWAT boots- I mean, UPP firearms seem commonplace enough, and I suspect boots are probably easier to smuggle anyways. I’ll switch to the jungle version if the stored knives don’t work out.

Okay, so I’ve tested it out. Sadly, knives in bags for everyone don’t actually work very well- Several loadouts for CLF grunts simply don’t have backpacks because there’s a significant chance of spawning with 2 primaries (which takes out the backpack slot), and the jungle boots make you spawn with an M5 raider bayonet, not a Type 80. I think putting bayonets on the mouth, and reverting boots to SWAT is the optimal method for giving CLF knives whilst preserving the soulfulness. Every time you get shot, you’ll have to manually click on your knife, since you can’t quick-equip knives from your face, which is very based while being an upgrade from no knife at all.
(Sorry to the poor people who have masks and spawned with 2 primaries, no drip for you).
ngl it’s funny as fuck to see the knives drop everywhere, though it probably wont be a problem given everyone with a brain will put it in a safe spot immediately.
