Give people a way to mitigate issues in chems/enchance gameplay of survivors.

The base of the idea

The idea is based on several things, first, have a chance of overcome up to a certain point certain situations than can affect the correct provisioning of corporals, things like a medbay overflow, medbay accident/destruction, lack of enough personnel, insecure/useless nurses and a long etc.

Second is than the drug-trafficking lore in the almayer haven’t been worked at all, at most you have the “prescription pills” old design pill bottle than cannot be opened and the drug pill that was indeed for recreative purposes in the same table insinuating than there is some underground usage of recreative drugs in the corps between the marines.

Third, to give it a little bit more possibilities of gameplay to the survivors.

Forth, it gives a chance to experiment with chems without the need for a medical role necessarily (although with hardships) and will incentive players to play it more (chems), which in time can maybie help someone of those players to want to play more medic roles to have better access and tools to make chem related things.

The proposed solution

To improve in this issues i think it would be interesting to add a couple of items to the game and also a couple of new interactions:

  1. Something similar to the grinder, you know, to grind pills or things but with two main differences:
  • It doesn’t require permits to work with
  • It doesn’t require power to work with, although it should be slower and require “manual usage” of the thing.
  • It may be able to be created through crafting manually
  • It may be able to be found in the almayer and/or planetside
  1. Some manual machine than allow, in a similar fashion than the one before, convert liquid chemicals in something than allow the chemical to be consumed, it may be dust and you “inhale it”, it may be pills, it may be capsules (in order to justify some type of pills done manually), i don’t know what exactly but i think you get the idea.

  2. The chance to being able to break the pills containers, idk, you may can make it with a knife and some time or something.

How would that help?

The idea then is than, if you as a normal player can get your hand in this tools, say, somewhere in the almayer or the planet, you then can modify the chems you have for your own convenience, that will bring at the very least access to more space efficient capsules for instance, so to use less space in your inventory for better medicine, or even better chemicals done through the mixing and matching of products available to the person than use them and collected them through his creativity and ingenuity.

This will straight up help the survivors giving them more options to obtain better tools to guarantee they survival, more reasons to go outside and search for stuff, but also will help the corpsman than see some kind of issue in the chem area, being as it will than it is empty/the nurse is too noob/there is not enough energy or some other issue is happening and need something than through this they can make themself with what they already have at hand at that moment, removing some weight but not all from the chemist office.

If this become a thing this will probably make the experimentation with chems easier for everyone, more accessible, and as such it will allow people being able to avoid to take nurse or some med related office in order to make such tests or experiments, if so, eventually, it will become far easier to find people crafting epi 2 for instance or some of those other wako chemicals than are far better than the normal stuff but you cannot find on the wiki for some reason. This is because players will have already learn ways to do the normal stuff already potentially learning the basics even before being a nurse, and if the use is prolonged, they may find ways to make all the process of crafting chems faster for themselfs too, ergo, giving them the chance to thrive and experiment in chems far easier when they do motivate themselfs enough to take a med role to do it.

I don’t know why, but I am having trouble reading what you wrote. What is it exactly you want? To open up the lore pill bottle? Make a new way to take chems? Make chems do different stuff?

What i propose is making an alternative paralel way, that do not require energy or have any permision requirements to mix, extract, and let ready to use chemicals.

This allow than, provided you can have your hand in something than have chems (as pills for instance), you could grind them and maybie mix them, and then make some way to consume such chems to yourself or others without needing the medbay permits, that can be as a corporal, a rifleman or even a survivor.

To be even more clear, this give flexibility to use already available meds for such groups, it doesnt give access to them but will, in between other things reduce the weight in the people tending chems.

I mean, it can also be used to make unga from pills or other sources i assume, provided you can find the neccessary chems in the right ammounts of course, but the point is than allows you to also recombine chems from available sources following the recipes that already exist for that in the game, so if you want to make unga for instance, you will be basically mixing pills or similar by yourself and in doing so you will be removing mostly the biggest part of the cost in time and job effort from the chemist office in producing unga, and also, depending from where you get the resources to do that unga, you may or may not will be doing it cheaper from a chem energy perspective too, just because you grind some pills and maybie receive just some reagents from the chem office themselfs instead of the full recipe costing energy.

A craftable mortar & pestle for MTs to be able to cut their tram pills with fent is a very cool idea. I do think it lends itself to the powergamey side of things, as unga is already in a weird spot, and this just lets any marine make their own.

There is something like this in game already however. Any container with a liquid in can have pills slipped into it. If unga isn’t made, I often grab a dead survivors tricord 4-pack and put it in my flask with 5u water out of my MRE, diluting it for light wounds. I hadn’t considered mixing other chems in for discount unga though, neat trick.

All of this is a bit of a moot point though, as a medical rework is coming I believe!
