First of all, I want to preface this thread with an apology for the “event” if it even can be called that.
A lot of things went south, everything that could’ve - did.
To those who didn’t see the ingame message, my time was cut short by an abrupt call
From the server breaking from squad changes, to the simplemobs freezing my game, and general incompetence of mine and me planning this event to have 50 people which is the average of the event server only for a hundred people to show up.
I had a plan to differentiate the round into two sides, those who wanted to follow the story and those who wanted to just greenshift and roleplay with one another.
I apologize for the little I had to offer, and the general chaos. A lot of people were left out on their “objectives” and personalized backgrounds"
I honestly loved the entire event, i didnt see anything wrong with it from my POV. I had alot of fun, alot of time to RP things out, which isnt usually afforded to events being tied in with the usual gameplay loop and the time restrictions that come with that.
It was not that the UPP spy got no objectives, it was that he masterfully completed them SO DISCREETLY even UPP high command did not know what they were!
Jokes aside, stuff goes wrong, it happens. I think most people actually did have a blast, and the majority having fun is what matters.
wasn’t what I expected when I heard greenshift but I had fun nonetheless. the pve nerds lived up to their server’s reputation and seemed to struggle to keep things IC, but that wasn’t really something in your control.
Also yeah the AI xenomorphs refusing to work was a little goofy but I don’t think it really mattered anyway for such a footnote in the event.
I did worry we were gonna be shoehorned into chasing preds around which I was not looking forward to, but that never came to pass so meh no harm done.
this has been one of the first times I have come out of an event not angry at someone or something, honestly I think you are beating yourself up to much about things not going “according to plan” the marines and command improvised, made things interesting, and overall, I think we all had a good time.
Really fun event. Was also really fortunate to play with 3 squad mates for the whole round, shoutout to those guys.
There was a lot to do for everyone and I found the ‘storyline’ was actually quite entertaining. I normally really dont like greenshift and find them super boring but this one was really fun for me. Good luck
The intention of the xenomorphs were to be a looming presence, as Vaughn had made it to be “bioweapons” practically. The population amount did not allow me to do so, alongside my low low skills of improv. I wanted the encounter to end horribly in one way or another, a failure in the expedition or even one or two deaths.
Xenomorphs were given backgrounds of what was happening, from them being beaten and tortured for disobeying, to being wiped out for rising up and then replaced by another hive.
Definitely felt like too many people, though after some initial hardship I had an alright round. I probably should just be a basic marine, next time though (if there is one), as being a PMC was a bit rough. I do appreciate being handler at least, and being able to talk to the xenomorphs.
I did like the idea of three different factions coming together to handle some xenos that weren’t outright hostile. It’s fun to try to tread past the uncertainty, and find someone to trust. It just, needs less people overall; like, if there were no normal spawns, and just Solar Devils, PMCs, and RMC, with the scientists and liaison and a few higher officers. That could still maybe end up being too much, though…
But, thank you for running this event. I am sorry that it was so stressful.
PVE nerd here, enjoyed the event a ton aside from having to guard a sensor tower in the middle of nowhere, and we wished we could join you guys in purging the alpha hive.
Delta SL called us greenhorns, I said we’d killed more bugs and terrorists than his platoon had killed brain cells with alcohol poisoning. Ponyboy Calhoun made me stand in front of the platoon and lectured me about my conduct as a marine, and made me do pushups in front of the synth (dean didn’t keep count, but I listened to his count anyways)
and uhhh, we shit talked you guys IC on the shuttle ride home while getting blasted on aspen beer. I love that the ert station is a recreation of the USS Sulaco, my beloved
I don’t think the xenos fully understood that GUARD were meant to be the PMC handlers by description, and that translated to how they acted in the event. Also that fear wasn’t strong enough of a motivator in their decisions.
