Half baked rolls disscusion.

This is a thread to disscuse possible imporovments or tips to so called half baked rolls. These are rolls like CE or MST. RP based rolls that have little for a person to do or its heavily dependant on factors out of your control. If its a roll that often finds nothing to do cause of something you control it half baked. All the parts are there but you can eat it. We all know when we we build a bar and no one shows up or when no one responds to our faxs. I know stuff like this has been done spread over a thousand other threads so please clump them all here. Also if you like to play these kind of rolls a lot then tell other what you can do it to make it fun.

I myself as CE try to find a situation where I can ask the AI a question. I told it to fax the UN about the marines makeing greenos. I suggest as CE using the AI to make faxs as it means the admin does not have to read a long boreing form you wrote. They just write one in there mind and they will give you update. It also save the admin time of filling out a full form in response and the AI can physcialy effect the ship itself. It just gives both of you more control and takes less time.

As an MP when no one decides to do crime that day I just RP as a ingsoc style thought policeman. I spy on people as much as possible. I read there records and if I find something odd I ask them about it. I use binocs to spy on req, cl, and the lab. I still follow marine law but I just keep an eye on people and question people if I see anything RP worthy. Like one time I saw an OT’s record said they got into a fight with a memeber of some group I never heard of. So I went over and questioned them turns out they where south american and it was a fan of a rival football team. I please ask you please don’t neglect to fill out your records. If you guys filled them out maybe people like me would read them more often.

I hear there’s extra content in the oven coming up for MST. I really like the role but you don’t get to do fun shit often enough. And there’s few people to do fun shit with. Unless Luigi “Meatball” Antorgini wakes up in which case I usually laugh my ass off.

CE is not an underbaked role. You are doing it wrong. Let me elaborate as you did ask for feedback.

CE is a great role that is very freeform at times and other times very task driven. It really depends on each round. That is what makes it great.

Roles like MST is all about what you do with it

It sure is. I have noticed however that making FOB kitchens is a gamble cause there’s a high chance you’ll get rolled at round start or roll the xenos round start and throw half an hour plus of prep in the trash. Personally I get frustrated when that is the more or less standard rather than the exception. I will return to MST when the fun is not the exception.

To elaborate further and I do apologize if I came off rude before. CE is great because you get to manage the gremlins that are the MTs. Since you are an officer and held to a higher standard you cant just free your men and have to mentally picture stabbing the MP with a screwdriver.

And on rare occasions you are ACO and wouldn’t you know Greenos were made. Chaos and death ensues.

Dont worry you where not rude. In fact you did exacly what I wanted you too. I included CE cause if your not a good roll player it can be hard to manage the MT’s in a fun way. I would say CE is on the very edge of being fully baked. Agian try to keep in mind not everyone is as creative or skilled at RP as you. Thats why I asked for tip cause the really fun things you can do might not be obvious or easy to do. So yes you can make these rolls fun as there about what you do with it.

Also look at what the swatter said about MST. That is the metality I came here to help prevent. As they said fun for them on MST is the exception. So let see how we can fix this. Personaly I dont know play MST that much so I got no idea. Any MST mains here?

I thought it was funny that you used “rolls” instead of “roles”. I am pretty sure you did this accidently though

Maybe its the synthetic in me… but I find the errors distracting

Please keep on topic; those are fully baked. Please see the other thread for the discussion of finished baked goods.

Well i might as well give another tip. If ever need a way to spice up CC do this. CC itself is also on the edge of being fully baked but can feel reptative without some cool gimmik. As CC since your a civ so you can be a non american. So feel free to pick a random country and say your a reporter from there. Lore wise its not that strange of a concept. If you want to get really funny you can say your from a distant colony and make up a fake country there.

I made up the nation of stravakia. The idea was a north korea documentory but in reverse. So I made up some lore for a non communist 1984 style country. Said it was an ally of america cause it has lots of gold and oil. I even made a language thats jsut modifyed english. I walk around and interview people and sometimes say stuff like this [self ID][OP-5921][question][food amount satifactory]. Then watch as people try and figure out what I just said. I would go around talking about great leader and ask people question abotu america like what is money or why do you have names instead of numbers. This gimmik is effectivly a funny joke genrator as I can just ask odd questions about basic things and get funny answers.

Personally I really enjoy roles like CL, MST, CC, etc that are roleplay heavy and open ended. I would much prefer to be able to mold my experience through RP rather than be locked to specific game mechanics.

I really think if anything we need more RP heavy roles that put an emphasis on the MRP aspects of CM.

CE is all about knowing there will be chaos and embracing it whole heartedly.

I think that there is a more accurate way to describe “half baked roles” that being, intrinsic motivation driven roles. There is no purpose to funny construction projects other than what you innately find fun about them. Most jobs off the ship, and some on it, are driven heavily by extrinsic motivation, meaning that many or most of the things you do are done for some other purpose than having fun (winning the round, etc), even if you do find those things to be enjoyable.

I don’t have a problem with intrinsically motivated roles that have to find their own fun, I just think jobs like that need more freedom and more tools to make the most of it. Both types of roles can exist, and to different degrees. PO used to be a split I/E role, where you needed to do fire missions and transport because you need to do that to win the round, but now CIC mostly handles transport duties, and so the only people who play transport pilot are either new, or really love pressing the same 3 buttons over and over again.
