You missed the good old days. Apcs had to be manually wired to power so getting them fixed involved fixing broken wiring.
You could hardwire the SMES to output constantly.
You could hook electric meshed to power to zap xenos.
It was much more complex

Medical, Command, Ungas, and Engineering. Long ago the four departments lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Ungas attacked. Only the maintainers those who understand balancing complexion with fast paced fun could could stop them. But when CM needed them most they vanished. 100 years passed and my brother and I discovered the new avatar an MT main named John Doe (not calling anyone out). And although his engineering skills are great he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to deal with complex engineering. But I believe John Doe can save the world. (Moral of the story if we shifted towards fast paced TDM and decided for some reason to take away complex engineering. You go John Doe)

I stopped playing on Goon when one of the admins force-spawned every player as a monkey in an empty box/room and then demanded someone buy him in real life $200-something tickets to a football game with a link to where we could buy it for him, or he’d keep the server locked down and unplayable indefinitely. It was played off as a “joke”, but that was enough for me to be done with the server wholesale.
From what I’ve seen Goon never really got better since then, lots of neat features sure, but it actually sounds like the admins got even worse.

Haven’t played there for a while, admins seemed decent enough (the top unban requests on the goon forum are truly something) in my experience.
They’re very secretive about features though, and I’m not sure if any other servers have an as in depth secret adventure zone for telesci as goon.

I have a simple but unavoidable urge to play games where 50-100 work to a common goal, and cm is the current flavor I enjoy
