CM won’t die anytime soon, it’s been here for almost a decade and staff have come and gone. I don’t think using BLACKSTONE (no, it does not have ERP, that’s all legacy references to the predecessor Roguetown) as an example of CM’s “competition” is valid, because SS13 servers aren’t exactly apples and apples.
BLACKSTONE provides a very unique experience (mostly the human king being ultra racist and ordering all dwarves to work in the mines or ordering genocidal pogroms, only to be couped by the church and rebels).
CM also provides its own unique experience (the realistic simulation of room temperature IQ marines being obliterated by smooth brain command and Xeno Xeam 6).
You won’t find CM’s TDM twist on any servers except TGCM, Corporate mercenary, PvE CM, etc. People who play BLACKSTONE play it because it’s BLACKSTONE, not because it’s “better” or “more developed” than CM. You just can’t compare them.
I’d argue that TGCM, etc. are probably the real competitors here- And let’s be honest, CM still trumps the bunch in terms of player count.
We’ll be fine. Things might be less than ideal, and people may disagree, but we’re far from completely collapsing.
Well, I actually meant how long blackstone will last, possible that it was a bit unclear so I edited the post. On CM, yeah, it will probaly stay alive for quite some time as it has a big playerbase and a popular selling point (RP+TDM compared to TGMC’s TDM, but the sprites look bad and people talk ICly like they would in a chatroom).
The single most common reason any SS13 server dies is due to ERP drama.
If there is no ERP drama. Then the second most common reason is due to player/admin driven drama.
Failing that, the third most common reason is simply that the server fails to retain player interest and it dies due to a lack of players.
I’m sadly not a expert on the Blackstone community, but I am aware there is a lot of drama surrounding its creation and how its a merger of several different servers, as well as the fact that the server itself was born out of ERP drama. Will it survive? I can’t say for certainty.
