Hello. The purpose of this guide is to teach you how to become a literal unstoppable god of death. someone who will make xenos scared to leave their caves or whatever ceiling protects them.
This guide assumes that you already know the basics behind JTAC, the mortar and CAS. If you don’t know how to make a fire mission, or how big the AOE is on a incend mortar shell, then go find out and come back here.
Before we get on how you can become a Strong independent Mortar User, you first need to become Strong and Independent. To do so we need to put you on a program. starting from the bottom
PHASE 1 JTAC’S LITTLE BITCH MARINE.
You sit in the FOB, and you wait for the purple text in the chat box to tell you what to do “JOHN MARINE (JTAC) I NEED HE -345 -312!” is all you live for, you have no brain power, you are a literal professional clicker. All you do is put in coords, and put the shells in the tube, like a McDonalds wagie, all you know is putting shit in bags. Xenos do not fear you, they don’t even know who the hell you are.
PHASE 2 STRONG MORTAR USER
You still sit in the FOB and wait for coords, but unlike the little bitch user, you actually realize that the flare shell has a camera attached to it that allows you to see impacts. Armed with this knowledge you also come to realize that the X and Y Offset options exist. Then it hits you, you can use the flare/Cam shell to create your own offsets, create your own firing timings and patterns…
You realize that you can lockdown entire areas armed with just a flare shell and a handful of incend shells. The only thing holding you back, is that you need JTAC to still give you coords. Xenos somewhat fear you, but still can avoid you. But soon you will ASCEND.
PHASE 3 STRONG INDEPENDENT MORTAR USER
You realize that chains that bind you no longer exist. You are free. You can take the mortar where you please, and you do not need to listen to JTAC, you have your own laser rangefinder. You take your mortar to near the front and you get coords yourself, and using the skills you learned above you turn any choke point into a living hell for any xenos WHO DARES poke their heads out of protected areas. You are feared among the hive, but there is still one more level to climb.
PHASE 4 notepad mortar user
You ascend to the highest level. You realize that the deadliest thing a mortar user has isn’t the shells, or even the mortar itself, but rather a simple pen and paper.
When you land at the FOB, you use your rangefinder to get the rough coords of any approach to the FOB. And you write it down somewhere. on paper, in notepad. Armed with this knowledge you remove the one long term warning the xenos had for mortar. That little green dot. Since you have the coords written down, all you need to do is LOOK in that direction and adjust. And armed with the Flare/Cam shells, you can punish ANY push into mortar territory
Queen about to break in? Incend shells behind her. kill all of her followers with ease.
Xenos take one step outside of LV caves? Block the way back in, and watch the marines murder.
You become a silent, unstoppable death. the only thing able to stop you is a pylon.
Behold your future.
Ok Memes aside. To sum this all up.
USE FLARE SHELLS, they are SUPER useful, as they allow you to make your own offset without the input of JTAC by using the camera functions.
USE OFFSETS WHEN YOU CAN. For the love of god, don’t fire 5 shells in the same place over and over again. it does nothing. anything more then 2 is not needed. Instead try to use offsets to both spread out your effectiveness but also cause greater blocking. AS SEEN ABOVE.
PUT INCEND DOWN IN CHOKES. If you see a choke, that xenos are using that you can hit, HIT IT. This doesn’t have to be a map built choke either, if you see xeno doors, HIT THAT SHIT WITH INCEND. THE INCEND SHELL IS SUPER OP. AS IT CAN BLOCK EVERYTHING THAT ISN’T THE QUEEN/KING OR RAV FROM ENTERING OR LEAVING AN AREA.
WRITE DOWN COORDS, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE NEARBY. It takes time to use a rangefinder, not only that but it also gives off that green dot that SCREAMS, “HEY THE MORTAR IS LOOKING AT YOU, DONT STAND HERE SOON” But if you already have the coords written down, you can just dial the mortar in on the spot, which means less warning overall.
