I have an idea that would be great if people start to doing it in game and it is

Strategy Meeting

Why STRATEGY MEETING?

The most important thing is that it bring flavor to the mission.

I still remember the day when i first start as XO when there are no SO, CO, CMO, i was alone frail like a baby in the midst of chaos and the only one who support me back then was the CE which join in very late in the game. But that make me thinking there are no guidline for command center and obiviously most of the command was on the whim or meta knowledge, so here i am want to address that with this thing call STRATEGY MEETING.

As you can see when a round start you mostly see CO and sadly green XO thinking all by himself on that fancy command chair without talking to his trusted veteran people around him. Now what make XO such a great role is that you can be a very charismatic leader and any charming person need to be an extrovert that social with his subordinate (not mandatory but a nice touch). And here you see him all by himself that not good.

So to address this issue and potentialy help newbie XO learning and possibly get more attach to the role, i introduce to you STRATEGY MEETING.

What is STRATEGY MEETING?

STRATEGY MEETING is an activity we do at round start in CIC to let people shoutout their opinion on what to take priority in the mission, imagine it as your first day dating you don’t want to miss it. And everyone who have access to CIC can give their opinion.

How to STRATEGY MEETING?

There are 3 phase of STRATEGY MEETING:

  1. Discuss Primary Objective
  • XO express that we need to rescue survivor and eliminate all threat ( since it distress signal most game so he will mostly say this)
  • The need to restore power generator and it location
  • Which LZ to drop?
  1. Dicuss Secondary Objective (This will take most time and mostly self interest)
  • Command staff will want to rush admin or whatever CIC like down there to get more information about what happen
  • CMO will want marine to rush research or medical center to get what important research down there cause they worry it might be destroy if going too late
  • CE will want more mech cause it impossible to make one
  • CL will want anything valuable down there for future funding like diamon for example
  • Ofcourse there will some with tactical view and say that there a cave over there which look suspicious ( RP to your heart content but the location is important)
  1. Discuss Optional Objective only on announce not on squad objective ( Most RP happen here)
  • You say that one of your relative is down there and start descript them (the character dosen’t need to be exist and dont tell name just feature of the person like hair color for example) dead or alive bring them back
  • CL might talk about how good the cigar produce here and will pay to whoever find them
  • CE want a plushy HA
  • CMO want a personal note at a desk around the dorm

After discussing XO will give the final answer, yes no vote we give idea so the XO can pick one this will improve XO character.

XO will then tell SO of each squad what the primary objective of each squad are (optional)

XO will pick which location need to priority to start the search in Secondary Objective dicuss. And assign it to each active squad except Whichever squad stay at FOB.

XO will consider the optional objective which he can reject all and not announce any. The optional objective can only be announce and will not be set as second objective for squad.

After STRATEGY MEETING?

XO will then announce 4 mandatory Primary Objective to marine which is: Build FOB, Restore Power, Build OutPost ( depend where the Secondary Objective the Outpost will be in middle of LZ and that location), Rescue Survivor and eliminate all threat.

And while marine being drop SO will then remind the squad their objective and can assign them already approve optional objective.

There have been attempts to hold CIC roleplay briefings, though not quite a strategy meeting like yours. While I would love the roleplay, previous CIC RP attempts resulted in a lot of marines getting agitated that CIC was taking too long to deploy them and it also leaves xeno players with less to do if they are left waiting too long. Mechanically speaking, it doesn’t accommodate for the larger number of players who want to jump straight into the action or the xenos who are forced to wait longer for the marines to land.

Yeah, I agree with the 16th best medic here. I find that generally speaking, the majority of players arent really interested in roleplaying at a high standard if it means sacrificing their groundside combat experience. As such, attempts to rope all the SLs, let alone every human player is kind of an exercise in futility which yields sub-par results outside of greenshift events.

People will mostly sit around, not contribute much and patiently wait for you to stop yapping and order drop.

Its why HRP moments tend to involve small groups where everyone already knows the others are willing to engage in effortful roleplay, rarely involving unknown players.

Ignoring the Xeno POV, and assuming you manage to get everything done and relayed to Marines before 00:20…

New XOs should not be guided towards making complex plans with multiple objectives because:

  • it requires the XO to be fully awake and able to manoeuvre multiple squads and react to their problems. SOs can help but a full CIC is rare.
  • it requires the SL of the squad to be fully awake, able to corral enough of their own squad so as to not be bait for getting wiped out, and requires the SL to engage with the objective in the first place. Not a lot of SLs can do all 3, and if you don’t recognise which SLs can or can’t then you’re gonna send a 4 man team to a distant building and get them killed or captured.

There’s definitely a gap in XO guides for the most meta plans on each map, but the reason CIC falls for the simplest plans each time is because it works with any SLs and has the least points of failure.

I’ve been doing this for years. Other COs have been doing this too quite often now.

I don’t explicitly invite anyone outside of CIC for two reasons. First of all the people are busy. CMO is busy in the chem line. ASO is maybe doing req. CE is either building a bar or stealing the cat, so they have nothing to contribute either way. So it all comes down to XO and SOs.

The second is that even at it’s most basic the whole talk takes time. XO plans often make little sense from the IC perspective, so you have to inevitably ask them “uh, why are we ignoring the colony completely and instantly pushing some random cave choke”? Every extra person present is just more time spent, because you have to fill them in and maybe get their input. And you don’t want to delay the drop much. Marines get restless and survivor ghosts REEEing in dchat give you bad karma. Then on top of that you ideally want to actually visit your own quarters and play dress up before the briefing, so you need a couple of minutes for that.

And finally, overcomplicated drop plans are overrated anyway.

theres no point on doing strategy meetings because people play this slop 24/7 that they do the most optimal solution to win which is to hellpush xenos so that they dont recover health.

You know what would be great if people start doing it? Everyone vending motion detectors and binoculars. Clearing weeds, dropping flares everywhere and counterpushing 10 xenos offweeds. That will win most marine games.

I love HRP meetings and briefings.

Thanks to the twitch chat the entire hive mind can also now partake in said HRP meetings

Main issue is most of have played this game before. Most of of us have played this map before.

Sure IC this our first time doing this. But like everyone already knows the plan. They might have already seen you persoanly do it before. What your doing is having RP at the expense of most of the server.

Sure RP is good and important but it should not come at the cost of frocing other players to wait. Xeno have to sit and wait. Marines have to sit and wait.

Cause let’s be real at most their might 10 people in you’r little meeting. So thats 10 players who are holding up the entire game from progressing.
