Ideas for new character traits

Just leaving this here to share character trait ideas, open to suggestions and ideas too

Character Traits

Opioid Addiction

Trait

  • You spawn with an addiction to opiates.
    • Need to consume tramadol, oxycodone, or whatever other opiate we have in game every 10 minutes or less if addictions worsens

Open questions

  • Does current addiction support this as a mechanic or does addiction need to be refactored?
  • What other opiates are in the game?
    • Are research chems that do any painkilling considered opiates?

Tobacco addiction

Trait

  • Need to consume a certain amount of tobacco (smoking, dip, etc) every 7-15 minutes or else get progressively worse symptoms
    • Get message about craving that progressively gets larger
    • Start shaking
    • Trouble seeing periodically
    • Get hungry much faster

Smell really bad

Trait

  • You smell like shit, every 4 minutes everyone in a 5 tile radius are notified of a pungent odor.
    • If they are close enough to you, they are told you are the one that smells bad.
  • If someone goes on your tile they are told this as well
  • Depending on if smell is because of genetics or B.O., can clean yourself to temporarily smell good

Open questions

  • What is a good name or reason to smell bad in-game?

Reminds me of a certain TV show… especially if paired with the bad leg trait…

Shell Shocked: Keeps hearing the sounds of battle, real or imaginary.
Like the boiler gas effect but without the colors and the stunning effects.

Ooo that would be a good one too, I dont know how I’ve triggered it before but some hallucinations even have fake OB sounds/alerts

  • Chronic Bromhidrosis (long lasting bad B.O.)
  • Cryo-pod wasn’t sanitized properly.
  • A rat snuck into the pod with you and died.
  • You didn’t shower before hand.

PTSD: occasionally shakes, eyes wide 1000 yard stare, screams on loud explosions or sounds, hears explosion sounds occasionally, wakes up from sleep screaming.

Cowardly: Freezes in fear if faced with something monstruous(Xenos or Preds). Only available to “civilian” personel, I.E. Marines, MPs, CIC, and Heads of departments can’t choose this trait. Nurses, Doctors, MTs, CTs, OTs, Chefs and CLs can.

Dunno about researchers. !!FUN!! if there is a larva loose in the Almayer.

That is like Roleplaying basics 101, not a character trait material. How do you imagine someone having this trait and just flouride stare whenever xeno happens to be on their screen? But as soon as it leaves said screen by hiding behind wall tile next to them suddently there is no fear.

Easier to roleplay a coward if you cant control your fear lol

Although seeing a xeno would be a death sentence with that trait

I agree with you. This is a rare moment. People need to actually RP instead of just selecting traits.

imagine fighting creatures that canonically give literally everyone who sees them nightmares, including seasoned veteran marines, and people who have fought and killed xenos before, and said nightmares last for probably the rest of their life

in an aliens omnibus a person who saw xenos got almost amnestitized and still had nightmares about them
