is pve good?

ive been having some problems playing cm since the multiz stuff, my pc cant handle that, but i believe pve servers have no multiz and its more simplistic? is it worth trying out?

pve is fun, make sure to join the discord and sign up for game announcements so you can get in before the round starts. Unless gamemasters have prop roles, you can only play by rolling at round start.

PVE is amazing. The atmosphere is perfect.

PVE is a good experience, but you’ll need to watch the discord closely for when they have uptimes, a lot more roleplay involved so it may be good to be more flexible with typed emotes and dialogue. Rounds have no minimum time but can commonly last for 2-3 hours usually.

U deserved every bit of that

So, I am one of the older gamemasters on PVE, and I have just a slight bias. But I would say, ā€˜Hey, if it’s something that interests you.’ You should give it a try!

It is a different experience than PVP, as we do enforce character expectations, but the community is good, and the action can usually be fairly intense.

This is going to be changing fairly soon as PvE moves to a modularized codebase, which means it will be significantly more up to date, including multiZ.

PvE is peak, but you do have to be in it for the long haul with long rounds and notably higher RP expectations. It is fun to break up the routine of PvP gameplay for sure, and there’s a lot of alternative mission types.

That said, just because PvE has less players does not make it necessarily more merciful on your device. It doesn’t matter what hardware you have, some defense ops can and will drop to five FPS after someone fires the SADAR or HIMAT at a horde of xenos. Then again, you can just choose to avoid said operations if there’s a likelihood of high enemy counts that might chug your hardware.

there was someone stating the inevitable upgrade to multiz, is that true?

i used to play cmss with no fps drop whatsoever, i played at around 70-90 pop, and never experienced any lag (before the multiz) so im sure it will be okay

In my experience, PvE is a completely different animal than PvP.

There are immediate and noticeable similarities. Many of the sprites are shared, if not the vastest majority, but the gameplay loop is different every single time you play in a pretty noticeable way compared to PvPs rounds being mostly the same premise-wise.

The roleplay standard is higher on PvE, but honestly in my experience you should be focusing on fun at first because unless you already know people, roleplay can be difficult.

I’d also consider PvE more accurate to the movies in terms of ā€˜lore’ if you can call it that. Swarms of drones that die pretty easily, smartgun is crazy powerful, MK1s everywhere, etc.

It’s certainly worth a try, I’ve had nothing but good experiences there.

I am legitimately curious how many other people are having performance issues related to multi-z or even with the lighting changes. I am sure we have plenty of people outside of NA/EU that play who may not be able to upgrade their systems (which may be the main draw to SS13 due to its low system requirements). This server is niche within a niche game, and I would prefer it be as accessible as possible to everyone.

i dont think the cause was multiz itself, because as far as i remember i played during the testmerge, the sudden fps dop that locked to 2 frames(all the sounds/ambience dont work too) started after some ā€œmultiz improvementsā€ pr

PVE is the equivalent of facebook roleplay but you get to press some keys and click your mouse a little
