Just as the title says, I have never understood why people were allowed to shoot at xenos inside what should realistically be a dropship with a ceiling, but at the same time, marines weren’t allowed to shoot up or down ladders because it was not an intended feature of Z level mechanic and viewed as LRP.
I would argue that shooting up or down what should just be a hole with a ladder is more plausible than marines suddenly gaining x-ray vision to look through the dropship’s ceiling and having the ability to shoot at anything through it. I’m aware that shooting down the alamo was never an intended feature when Z levels were first introduced, since the devs had attempted to fix this issue in the past by making a temporary roof over the alamo pad in Almayer. But it never worked since the ceiling tiles itself was just built above the landing pad rather than the dropship itself, so the hijacked dropship was still susceptible to being shot at from a higher Z level if it didn’t land exactly under those ceiling tiles.
There should be a policy that says marines are not allowed to shoot down hijacked dropships from an upper Z level since it was neither an intended feature of the Z level mechanics and it is basically an LRP move that takes advantage of a game mechanic rather than contribute to any immersion or logical roleplay standards.
top is alamo flooring and bottom is the plating on the alamo pad on the almayer.
I honestly haven’t tried shooting into the alamo from above since the temp walls were added in, but im pretty sure they’re now shot proof from the high standard of surety of not remembering anyone having done it in a while, even onto hijacked ships from the hanger.
Anyho i think the easiest permanent solution to this is the multiz supported dropships that are apparently still being worked on last i asked a maint.
