Irwin

What is your Synthetic’s Personality?

A more outlooking perspective of their surroundings, an intrigue in strange native and alien wildlife with an Australian accent to boot, This synth had originated from a Synthetic Construction Facility in Southern Australia, being labelled as TWE owned before being sold off to the USCM, their original purpose was the assistance of civilians living in the outback with identifying certain animals or insects to keep aware and safe. Alongside this built in knowledge, Irwin tends to keep both humanity and lesser wildlife in high regard medically wise, trying to treat both however being required to prioritise human life if the time comes.

The façade that they have during social situations can be called a more outwards, confidence imbued stride, seemingly not being alarmed by certain signs of aggression that animals may put up, this being out of intrigue of their behavioural signs while also knowing their limits to what they can handle safely (without causing harm to humans, that is). Overall, Irwin would be to a marine an upbeat synthetic who informs them about animals and their behaviours in a TV Show Host type style, allowing them to stay safe during operations. Every so often they’ll also start drinking a bottle of beer and crack some jokes from time to time for morale’s sake and to humanize themselves a little more compared to other synthetics.

Some TWE producers also used Irwin’s unique personality to aid in their own profit while also providing widespread information about local wildlife inside southern Australia as well as around the globe, being aptly named ‘Wild Bytes’ starring Irwin as the main host. Referring to the many episodes would seem far more efficient to Irwin compared to retelling the dangers of such wildlife on this show, so they may replicate this behaviour in fast paced scenarios…

When facing more substantial danger, Irwin will tend to be more courageous than most, through sternly informing of the potential danger of what something may cause. They also tend to be a lot more imperative during these scenarios, lowering their façade a little to get the point across clearly and concisely. If one could summarise the main core principles of Irwin, it would be that they’re confident, curious and optimistic in their field.

How will they react to the different ranks of the USCM, what would they talk about in a one on one conversation? What are their interests? What is an advertisement logline that could be written for them?

If in dialogue with commissioned officers of the USCM, Irwin would keep to a sort of wildlife show host while maintaining the formalities of their rank, albeit talking to them in an Australian accent of course. One notable aspect is their use of Australian slang (fair dinkum for fair enough, crikey for when they are surprised, G’day for general greeting, etc) in the presence of PFCs to Sergeants while maintaining a far more firm and rooted etiquette when facing Commissioned Officers and the like. Another quirk of this synth when chatting to marines is their frequent use of comparisons to animal features or behaviours, this being reminiscent of their wildlife show host esq personality.

In times of idleness, Irwin may start conversation with marines unless requested not to do so, discussing interesting adaptations of certain animals relating to the environment within an operation in an attempt most of the time to educate marines. If in contact with wild animals while marines are about, they’ll likely use some sort of Australian word for being surprised (crikey being a notable one!) while then doing the prior actions of filling the marines in on the possible dangers of such a creature (for LV lizards, they aren’t known to Irwin, so he’ll express great interest in trying to find out more about it.).

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

For the many hours that I’ve been playing CM (around about 1100 by the time of writing this, I started in I believe 2021) I’ve always had a certain knack for trying to get into roleplay, endeavouring into other games that have similar levels of seriousness in some cases. Seeing how synths act and play in game has really eventually boiled over into me creating this application in my hopeful attempt to get into this wonderful whitelist.

My main interests regarding this universe also revolve around synths! Mainly I had bought a copy of an aliens comic revolving around the origin story of bishop, getting infatuated with the intricacies of synth programming and their ‘thought’ processes so to speak, how they’re created, their interactions with other hostile synths and so on.

I also really want to prove that I can be a good player in terms of regaining a standing within the community due to my (rather extensive) Note History. I can do good RP well and I wish to showcase this in a WL that is suitable for myself.

I’ve always found that I am fond of making dialogue to synths quite a lot as well, so being in the shoes of those I talk to would also assist greatly in my RP potential in the future and overall as a result of creating this application.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

During the Hybrisa testmerges, I would commonly play as a CL due to their background being within the TWE, providing more RP potential to my character. Many of these times, a synth by the name of Elizabeth would often be a survivor synth from the colony who’d come up with various… Artifacts from the colony secret lab (including pred gear…). They would then follow up on me, making me, a corporate liaison mind you, PARACHUTE into the AO, on their laze to investigate a ‘secret section of the lab that’ll get me rich quick’, of which we ATTEMPTED to use G2 shocks to force open the door, as they had done it before.

This inevitably failed after 5 boxes of G2’s were thrown at the door without a hint of movement, resulting in a good laugh between the both of us, the req money going down the drain and the XO getting into a tantrum regarding where the req budget went.

Synthetic Character Story:

Skills:

Engineering:

My second most experienced aspect. While this sector has admittedly far less hours than my medical sector, I am still perfectly able to do all essentials with relative speed as a comtech, as well as creating structures as an MT (APC repair, tower repairs, Generator Repair, etc.)

Command:

I generally am not a fan of being in command strategically per say, so I have far more hours on SL rather than anything like SO or XO. All in all however, I know how to do all the functions of the CIC, overwatching, OB’s, Supply drops and techweb to name a few. My ability to properly lead troops on a strategic level is rather futile at best though unfortunately.

Medical:

Arguably my most experienced aspect, I’ve got many hours on research with a lot of those also performing other medical duties than stim making and such, I also have been playing quite a bit of corpsman before this. Overall, I do know a rather large chunk of medical, such as Chemlining, research as mentioned, I know all the surgeries off by heart and can teach it effectively. Another possible thing I may embark on is the assistance of researchers in stimulant creation, provided I have the time of course (which likely will be VERY rarely).

Requisitions:

Admittedly one of my weaker roles, I do know the general gist of FOB drops (A mix of materials and ammo or ammo and supplies), frontline drops (extra guns, ammo, portacades, the like) and the general gist of sanctioning off funds for certain things. I have been actively working to participate more in this field however, so my experience may have changed drastically in this regard. While I am aware of the drastic importance of requisitions, I do feel like I wouldn’t want to be stuck in doing the role as a synth for VERY long periods of time, however I will if I must.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

One of the Goto examples that I’d default to is if I’m involved alongside a retreat to the FOB on a rather open map such as Chances Claim. There is a marine retreating a little just behind me but gets pounced on by a lurker. The rest of the xeno force routing the marines are about an entire screen away and I am around a screen from the FOB. I would personally first of all shake the marine up who was pounced, and if they’re crit (which tends to happen with lurker combos) I will pick them up and carry them back to the FOB as normal. If the lurker attacks however, I am within my right to use my other hand for the telescopic baton (my personal tool i will be using when i get synth WL most of the time) to protect marine lives while preserving my own, knowing the distance of the main xeno force is reasonable enough to both rescue the marine and get reinforcements to assist me in the case of myself being mobbed by fast xenos.

Another combat example I would refer to is in a scenario where I am assigned to repairing power, in this case it is rather out of the way of the front, but in the territory of backliners. In this situation, I would prioritise getting my objective done ASAP, to avoid any conflict anyway, however if I am spotted by backliner lurkers or runners (both of which tend to be rather bloodthirsty for synths) I would still go about my way up until i am attacked, of which I will attempt to run towards marines for cover, and likely ask some to accompany me to escort my power restoration duties. If they are too rampant in their efforts to kill me however, I will yet again pull my telescopic baton and attack when they get close, chasing them out of the nearby power area forcing them to heal and to allow myself crucial working time.

A final combat example I shall refer to would be a scenario of managing a frontline medical triage. Due to the tendency of marines being (or at least should be) at a frontline en masse, I wouldn’t be needing to get into combat much at all, instead prioritising the wounded or dead. If I get attacked constantly, my most likely move would be to simply drag my patients back, likely with the help of medics if it does get to this point anyway, and proceed with treatment. If, however, the situation is far more dire, I’ll have one of 2 options: Start hitting the main one attacking me to ward them off while I drag patients back, or retreat myself and wait until marines are in a state to push back to their position. This is entirely dependent on the force presented to myself at the time of this occurring (for example I won’t be challenging a Rav and a Prae however a runner and warrior should be warded off by a few bonks.) with the less force presented to be allowing me to fend off any skirmishing attackers.

I have been talking actively with Nutter during the process of him making this app. I told him early on how interesting I think his quirk is, and that hasn’t changed.

As for the supportive aspects of the role, I’ve seen Nutter on everything. He’s proficient and knows his stuff.

An easy +1 for Irwin. Hope to see you onboard B)

Played a lot of rounds with Nutter and I can say without a doubt he’s got the technical aspect of the whitelist down pat. And his RP is top-notch so I have no doubt that he can perform well with the WL.

Hello!
Thank you so much for your interest in the synthetic WL!
I thought to leave a few notes in order to help you on your way.
First of all, I like the name Irwin; it suits the synthetic character you built.
Your personality answers are very detailed and well constructed.
I also do not see any problems lore-wise so far, so it is amazingly done so far.
Moving on to your story, it’s quite well made and quite a fun read!
It showcases your quirk and your personality as an Australian wildlife expert!
I wish it was a bit longer, but overall the dialog is long enough, and the part with the alien lizard showcased your quirk to the whole squad, which was a nice touch.
Moving on to your skill answers I’m a bit worried, sadly, as you do not show enough confidence in engineering or req, which isn’t ideal due to engineering being a very important role in synthetic.
However, I will refrain from commenting further until you are observed in-game fairly.
My suggestions would be to play engineering, doctor, medical, and req mostly throughout your app duration with a few rounds of command to show off your knowledge of CIC handling, such as changing squads, activating red alert, and modifying IDs.
Your combat answer is quite detailed and well written and contains examples of the frontline as well as the backlines, so once again, well done.
Overall, I think you did well on your application and have a fair shot to make it, so good luck on the field!

Thanks for such in depth feedback Sam! as for your suggestions, I will follow all but the Medical area, for I do believe that I am already rather experienced in that department! I will however will still roll doctor nonetheless, for coverage’s sake.

Joe is just excellent. I see them every other round, they are excellent at RP, always up to interact with you and talk, an skilled and fun person to play with, they are aproachable both ingame and out of the game.

Had a blast reading their story, i love the quirk and how the incorporated the wild life stuff into their normal speech.
Like the “Run as fast as a cheetah” etc. Fits their personality/quirk and makes for a very fun and interesting interaction when speaking to them.

Pretty sure they understand all the rules and bits perfectly by their responses.
Not much to add, other than hope you make it!

Got to to interact with Joe as a groundside doctor - he was quick and still took time to do a little RP. Good story to read as well. +1

Hey Jeremiah_Simpson and thank you for your interest in the Synthetic Whitelist!

Great personality idea! The way you display the dialogue and interactions of Irwin in you story grants me confidence in your ability to play him. The story was well written and adequately displayed how Irwin will mesh into CM’s universe. I especially love the remarks about in lore references like Wild Bytes, or the inspection of various wildlife. You have good interactions for both a surface level quirk but also a more indepth explanation of your observations/experiences throughout the round that you can share with those around you. I think you can do a lot with this quirk!

The memorable interaction you listed with Elizabeth was quite hilarious - definitely unorothodox but it sounds like a blast of a round. I’m glad you both had so much fun!

Decent elaboration on your role skills, I like the honesty and reflection.

For your combat scenarios, all three examples you gave are excellent. Not only were they unique but they also displayed very regular examples and interactions which a Synthetic may find themselves in. Your answers here remark that you have an excellent understanding of Synthetic Programming and even many of the nuances involved. Exemplary job on this section.

During the observations from council and Synthetics alike, your capability and strive to RP and perform well in relevant roles was overtly noted. You did a good job at surgery, triage and surprisingly - engineering! One councilor even regarded your engineering feats as eye opening during their observations. We really appreciate the effort you put into RPing and adding to the atmosphere.

Overall, this is a great application from you, a great applicant! We’re very satisfied with your performance and consistent gameplay. Therefore, it’s our absolute pleasure to accept this application and bring you in as a Synthetic.

Please warmly welcome Irwin to the USS Almayer!
