Command Knowledge:
How familiar are you with command positions?
I am most familiarized with CIC positions and Squad Leader. I have around 200hrs + as Staff Officer and can handle CIC alone. Iām used to the Overwatch Consoles, the ID Computer, the Groundside Operations Console, etc. I am also used to all ASO responsabilities (15Hrs +) and covered for absent Req personel on more than one ocasion, most times managing Requisitions alone in those circumstances. Its been too long since I played as CMO(2023) and I never played as CMP nor CE. Most times that I play as a Squad Leader I take on a support role and let the fraggers frag. I try to be communicative, call in OBs, coordinate Requisitions AND CIC to make a front supply drop as soon as possible once I see the frontlines meet resistance.

Character Information:
Why did your character decide to become the CO of a ship?
Morrison was a farm boy who geeked over the starships of the USCM. Once he enlisted out of naive patriotism he noticed some, if not most Officers he worked with, viewed the lower ranks as inferior or as cannon fodder. He wanted to change that, he was human too. That pushed him to go higher and higher into the ranks. To study, to prepare himself better, to specialize and get a medical degree on his OCS. The last drop was while he was a 2nd Lieutenant Staff Officer, after a gruesome operation with a 80%+ casualty rate he heard his CO say dismissively something to the lines of āThis will look bad on my report but no matter, we can always grab more gruntsā. This infuriated the often collected Morrison into a shouting match with said CO. The conflict ended after the other officers dragged the Lieutenant out of the CIC. Morrison felt he needed to make a change on how marines are treated. On how they are deployed and managed. If the only way to do that is becoming a CO, then thatās what he needed to do.
How did your character attain the position of CO?
Jack Morrison served as a Captain in the USS Valkeer for a few years dealing with HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief). He thinks that everyone, even his enemies, deserve care and humane treatment. That life and how you live it are heavily influenced on where you were born and grew. After Operation Tachyon Tackle, Morrison wanted to get involved personally in the aftermath of it. Such disasters, and the care thatās needed afterwards, are his expertise. Requests of transfer and a few promisses and favors later he finaly gets the letter to fill in the position of Captain on the USS Almayer. Rumors say that an influential Corporate Executive, his father, got involved and Morrison got a promotion to Major to boot. Morrison did not like what that meant to his career but accepted the devilās deal anyway.
Provide a short story of your CO.
Command Actions:
When do you believe itās appropriate to pardon a prisoner?
When do you believe itās appropriate to pardon a prisoner?
I believe that a pardon is something that should be used sparingly, considering the necessity of the prisoner to the Operation, when the crime is light enough and when Iām sure the prisioner in question will not do it again. I would hesitate and only give out a pardon when absolutely necessary, even for the good of the operation. To get a better read on if the prisioner would re-offend I would need to speak with him personally. Regretfull, apologetic, respectfull prisioners have a better chance at a pardon than an agitated one.
Resumed Version: When Iām sure there will be no reofending, depending on the crime commited and the necessity of the marine to the operation.
Give some examples of when you would or would not use pardon.
Sorry if these are too long:
Our frontlines have gone over a field of facehugger traps and the only doctor capable of the surgery is the prisioner in question. The doctor got locked up because he spiked the Liason drink with Chloral Hydrate and tried to flee groundside when faced with arrest. In brig, the doctor is caling my name and says that he needs a pardon. He heard about the hugged marines and knows he is the only doctor in the Almayer. I canāt wait and hope one shows up miraculously to save the marines. He is disdainful and says that he is needed for the operation and I know it. Personaly, I wouldnāt pardon this doctor. No ammount of hugged marines would make me pardon him. Morrison on the other hand got a soft heart for his men. He is willing to put up with such a disrespectfull Officer for the sake of Marines and would risk him reoffending. Jack Morrison would pardon the doctor and order a MP to keep watch on him while he operates on the marines. As soon as another surgery capable personel wakes up I would order a Discretionary Detainment of the offending doctor with the same timer of his original crimes if not permanent for his behavior.
In the FOB a specialist got himself into a fight that escalated badly, he pulled a knife on a Squad Leader that promptly drew his sidearm and shot the specialist on the spot. The specialist managed to survive long enough to shoot back his main weapon and the ammo supplies accidentaly blew up because of the specialist, killing a few marines in the process. Many witnesses corroborated with this account but no marine got permanently lost and were recovered. This situation, in my opinion, is a tricky one. Did he resist the arrest? Tried to flee? Is the OP doing well? Is he a very skilled specialist? Is he apologetic and regretfull? Or is he frantic and disrespectfull? Him pulling a knife (Assault with deadly weapon), the ammo explosion (Damage to Property) followed by multiple Manslaughter charges would add a hefty timer in the brig. I would not pardon this marine with the exception that he was very well behaved AND necessary to the operation AND if I knew he wouldnāt cause any more trouble based on his behaviour. Thatās a lot of ifs and most of the time they wouldnāt align themselves like this.
My Executive Officer is the only other member of CIC besides me, I gave him the ok to run the operation and at the end of briefing a PFC comes along and hits him a few times with a folding chair, making the XO fall prone over the crane embarassingly, and the Private then runs away to a spooling Alamo before he gets caught. Over Command Announcements the XO orders the other marines to shoot the PFC and leave him cuffed inside Alamo so he gets arrested on his way back shipside. Such was his fate, the marine comes back dead but is revived and subsequently arrested on minor charges. The CMP hearing this comes to CIC immediately and voices the arrest of the XO over the unlawfull order in his announcement. Saying that it is tantamount to an Unauthorized Execution. The XO isnāt agreeing with the CMP but does not resist and is arrested peacefully, leaving me alone in CIC with a whole operation to run. The XO then asks for a pardon and his argument is that he never said to kill the private, only to shoot him, making it a Major Crime, Manslaughter, not a Capital one. The Captain is respectfull, says he acted out of impulse and promisses to keep a level head and that he will not do it again. I would not pardon him if the crime gets bumped down to a Major crime, his order killed a marine over a prank and I cannot trust him to not lose his temper again. The operation is not at risk because I can still manage CIC.
When do you believe itās appropriate to use a Battlefield Execution?
Only a few moments are appropriate: When my life and of those around me are at risk and there is no other way at hand to stop the offender. When the Operation or the Almayer are put at risk because of the behavior or actions of someone. And when my authority is getting undermined or my orders are getting ignored/denied for no good reason. As with the pardon, I would be hesitant to use a Battlefield Execution because I would round-end a marine. To be frank, I would BE only on cut and dry circumstances, because I do not want to deal with the headache of a dubious call.
Give some examples of when you would or would not use Battlefield Execution.
Again, sorry if these are too long:
Im at the entrace of a choke point and the xenomorphs are getting capture after capture on this location. I give the order to divert into a flank through unknown territory. Hearing that order a Squad lead comes in front of everyone with a megaphone and yells āDonāt go to that flank! Its a stupid order! Hold your ground!ā. I would ask what the hell is the Lead doing and to explain himself. He tells me Scout went ahead to verify the flank previously. It seems a CLF cell is holding that flank and xenos are harassing them too but in smaller numbers. I do not wish to get into a firefight with the CLF meanwhile the xenos are actively engaged with us. I thank him for the info but I also reprimand the Lead on how he failed to give me this information beforehand and HOW he went about disobeying my order. Wouldnāt BE him because he had a good reason for it.
During a fierce battle groundside while Im in CIC, the only Staff Officer gets a phone call and suddenly fires the OB. It seems to have little effect on the battle itself but was too danger close, hurting a few marines, no deaths. When asked whoās coords were those the Officer says the name of a PFC. I warn him to not trust PFCs with coords most of the time unless you trust them and focus on Squad Leads or FTLs with coords. Further into the round the Orbital Cannon fires again without input from Comms. This time hitting and killing marines. I ask again whoās coords and he responds the same PFC and that I shoulndāt be so quick to judge a PFC. Again this is a tricky one for me, since this is exactly Morrisonās view on the marines, to not misjudge them as grunts. Alas I cannot trust this SO nor this PFC with coords it would seem. Mistakes happen, it sure looks like it but I canāt be sure if this is malicious intent or not. I order the Staff Officer to not fire another OB unless they get coords from myself, a Squad Leader or a FTL. I buy another OB, ponder to lock or not the OB use and decide not to. The overwatch phone rings, and I nervously watch as this Staff Officer fires the OB again, hitting nowhere near the xenos and he doesnt answer if a SL or FTL gave him coords. With MPs around I order the arrest of this Officer on charges of at least Neglect of Duty and a demotion. With no MPs around, a probably failing OP after three wasted/harmfull OBs, and little time to Brig this Officer myself I would Battlefield Execute him. At this point I can only assume he is trying to sabotage the whole operation.
The Almayer got hit with a hijacked dropship, we managed to hold off and kill many of the xenos and although the marines are battered and wounded, morale is high enough and we are scoring kills. Refueling hit 100% and soon after I hear someone is activating the reactors to self destruct. I run there and the Chief Engineer and the Liason are already halfway through the activation and I order them to stop, since we can win this. They donāt, arguing that one screech and it would be all over, that at least with this we can have at least a pyrrhic victory. I draw my gun, ordering one last time for them to stop. Or else. They stop, only to pull their guns and fire. If I survive this I would BE both of them.
In the middle of an OP the Chief MP and 2 MPs come into CIC to order my arrest telling me that it is due to a pardoned marine that misbehaved again. I ask to see the HC fax and they provide none. After telling them that āWithout that fax Iām not moving from CIC, Chief.ā the CMP says that it is getting processed and that a fax might come to Brig any minute now, that I should come peacefully before things get ugly. āNo fax, no arrest. Bring it and Iāll come to Brig myself.ā . Now, lets say that 2 things could happen: Either the CMP is trying to skip the HC fax part for any reason, like a round almost over, and get straight to arrest or they do have a fax coming. With the fax in hand and a HC stamp of course I wouldnāt BE anyone and come in peacefully. Without the fax AND if the CMP or MPs try to forcefully move me to the brig then I would need to deal with them. I would BE any of the MPs that tried to remove me from Command.
