it sucks that you have to ghost and wait for 230-240+ seconds to join as facehuggy/lesser. Is there a reason why we cant do this? I usually join lesser/facehug when xenos arent available

Incoming speedrun huggers waiting for survs at loots. Also there’s no roundstart hugger as there’s…. no egg.

I’m pretty sure this was an unintended side effect of the PR that added a 5 minute waiting period on joining as hugger/lesser when dying/ghosting Lessers/Huggers have a 5 min timer for non-lesser/hugger deaths by Drulikar · Pull Request #9052 · cmss13-devs/cmss13 · GitHub

Before this PR you could just spawn as hugger or lesser immediately after observing. I’m guessing code-wise hitting observe on the menu counts as ghosting. But if you read this PR it doesn’t say anything about this and in fact the stated reasoning is to prevent metagaming which doesn’t really make sense in this case. Making me run around as a ghost for 5 minutes gives me MORE meta knowledge, I would have less meta knowledge to act on if you let me spawn immediately. Which is why I think this is unintended.

Edit: Actually I think it’s joining the server that starts the 5 minute timer, not observing. I feel like I recall at some point having joined the server but sat on the menu screen for a while and when I eventually observed it let me join as hugger immediately. But I’ve not tested this properly so not sure.

I’m pretty sure that’s already handled as there’s no hugger or lesser slots available for the hive until ~20ish mins?

I do think the 20 minute roundstart delay on huggers makes sense, but I would like a shorter timer on lesser. It’d be nice to just hop in a round and turn off my brain for a little while.
