Just a quick heads up, this is my first time pulling logs for an official forums report, so please do let me know if I missed anything that you would like included.
Additionally, it would appear that Xenos attempting to burrow is not logged, so they’ll be absent from the pull.

Next set of logs are roughly 17 seconds after the previous ones.
Engagement between Carla and AVE
ATTACK: Carla grabbed (Mature Burrower (AVE-6)) in the Medical Research containment (167,167,3).
ATTACK: (Mature Burrower (AVE-6)) slashed (Carla)
SAY: Mature Burrower (AVE-6): Rude (AREA: Medical Research containment)
ATTACK: Carla grabbed (Mature Burrower (AVE-6)) in the Medical Research containment (172,169,3).
ATTACK: (Mature Burrower (AVE-6)) slashed (Carla)
ATTACK: (Mature Burrower (AVE-6)) slashed (Carla)
AVE was then shot by two marines until death, with no further direct engagement from Carla, aside from letting command know that the burrower had died.
There aren’t exactly a ton of logs for the situation, and it all happened rather quickly. There was only about a minute between the first Say log from Carla to Dallas, to Carla declaring the Burrower dead on command comms.

This round I decided stayed on the ship since another synthetic was already on the ground, when I heard a burrower was attacking medical I considered that the most urgent problem aboard and grabbed a meson’s optic to help marines find it easier. While it’s not delta alert worthy it’s closer to a xeno inside the FOB scenario, where one should take it seriously.
When the logs started, I was just joining the search party and found Dallas / asked him to help me (“Lets chase” being the “I want to help you find him” equivalent but more in tune to how my synthetic speaks), he alerted me that it was nearby so I pulled out my own MD and figured out it was inside research (An area no marine can get to, especially if the researchers are incapacitated), since every other person looking for the burrower was going the opposite way, I asked him to follow me.
He uses heavy armor, so it took him a few seconds to arrive which I used to prevent the burrower from escaping by grabbing it (never hit it) until he arrived. That was my entire participation.
While a Synthetic Unit is moving between locations, returning wounded, guarding the FoB, or patrolling the colony alone or in small groups, they are allowed to defend themselves and the lives of other humans, provided that assistance from others nearby is ineffective or unable to arrive in time.
I consider these conditions to be fulfilled because I was guarding / attending the ship and crew, the assistance from most marines was ineffective and Dallas was not fast enough to respond, so I had to act. I don’t consider it a breach of self-preservation because a burrower on the ship is a higher risk to my self-preservation than the alternative and I never acted with the intention of fighting you by myself nor in a place that could be considered too dangerous for a synthetic to be in.
While I wouldn’t have generally bothered because I understand it can be considered close to the thin red line when it comes to combat synthetic ruling, I took it seriously because I didn’t know how many people the burrower has harmed and I consider them a big enough threat to warrant my help. I was also aware there was once a similar report, that found it permissible to grab burrowers to prevent them escaping if they’re a threat to secure areas / others, I don’t intend to use this as precedent to justify my actions but rather laying out my mindset being similar to explain why I decided to act.

because I didn’t know how many people the burrower has harmed
I’m 90% sure i had 0 combat encounters with marines before this one (even forgot which hotkey is tremor).
P.s.s. i forgot about encounter in morgue, but guy scared the shit out of me so i panicked, don’t remember whether i slashed him.
a burrower on the ship is a higher risk to my self-preservation
Existence isn’t a threat, otherwise you can justify attacking any xenos first.
From my point of view burrowing is* equivalent to disengaging (literally trying to run away, even considering that in not so “similar report” was decided otherwise), moreover synth engaged in combat (prevention of retreating) first.

SAY: Carla: Lets chase. (JOB: Synthetic) (AREA: Upper Deck Fore Hallway)
P.s. and yeah, intention of “patrolling” or “moving” was to hunt down xeno.

Hi everyone.
I will be addressing specifically what is reported to prevent confusion.
In this report, Carla is accused of violating her programmed combat restrictions when interacting with a burrrower(AVE-6) which entered the USS Almayer.
The council has thoroughly examined all logs made available along with any evidence presented to us. In our investigations we found that the existence of the burrower onboard was reported and constituted a significant threat to the shipside USCM staff who were generally unprepared to deal with such a hazard. Thus, although it is not in the prerogative of a Synthetic to intervene with a shipside threat as their highest directive, it is still a priority should those nearby be unable or unwilling to assist. Allowing a threat to roam and threaten the crew is going to cause unnecessary danger to human lives. Likewise, if Carla had the opportunity to capture or stop the threat, and failed to act on it - leading to USCM casualties, it would be a fault.
In this situation, Carla was apprehending the burrower(AVE-6) during this encounter in the most minimum way, a grab. Resources(combat Marines) were pulled off from the frontline to tackle this threat and it was a significant hazard to shipside crew. The situation was acted on in defense of USCM personnel, and does not fall under the ‘greyish’ regulated frontline areas, but instead a backline location which is the secured USS Almayer.
As a side note, our review of the logs showed that ultimately the demise of the burrower(AVE-6) was caused by combined gunfire of nearby Marines who fired, among multiple weapons, slug munitions which caused the burrower to stumble on several occasions. In addition, the resources melted by the burrower were considered but did not play a significant role in the situation.
Carla’s decision to intervene is maintained within their programming to provide safety for USCM personnel, and they did so in the most minimal of manners. The report is denied.
A huge thanks to our team of moderators for providing logs!
Have a good day everyone
