Description of the incident:

Its 2 hour+ round and I wanted to play as I was already xeno beforehand and died, skipped the foxtrot call since i didnt see the popup and was alt tabbed, but see it was 4/5, check freed mob and none available, i check who foxtrot is and only see 4 awake.

See the log of a hospital corpsmen that cryo’d see their ghost they’re naked. See that the missing foxtrot is a corpsmen. I ahelp this and I get rejected of ahelp. Shortly after I ahelp again to ask why and the reasoning i got was it was "If a player insta cryos after going foxtrot there isn’t much to be done. Since it is a low impact role and nearly hijack I rejected it. "

I wanted to play a marine, even if it was hijack, and i was denied it, later on they were willing to spawn me in, but at that point it was too late.

The issue I have with this is the moderators unwillingness to enforce the rules, not to mention that foxtrot is a limited slot ERT and the person just cryo’d, which from what I remember, foxtrot should ahelp if they dont want the role so they can be replaced. This did not happen and I ahelped it but was rejected. Another reason for this report is I am unsure if the moderator did bother to talk with the marine that cryo’d, which they did break Rule 8. While yes, hospital corpsman is not stated to be in the low risk role, I think the issue is them taking the foxtrot role. This is a staff report instead of a player report is due to in my perspective, the moderators rejection of my ahelp and unwillingness to enforce this(which as I said, i am unsure if they did enforce this)

Evidence:

PM to-Admins: ARES v3.2 (F) [Almayer] states, “Tuberion ‘Funguy’ Portobello, Hospital Corpsman, has entered long-term hypersleep storage. Belongings moved to hypersleep inventory.” Looks like someone took foxtrot, but instantly cryo’d and wasnt replaced properly.

PM to-Admins: why was my ahelp rejected? Are we now allowed to just cryo and waste a foxtrot slot if we dont like we got engi/corpsman? They did not even gear up, they literally cryo’d as soon as they got it

PM to-Admins: and not to mention it was a corpsman, they took out a slot that couldve been played by another person in ghost chat. They literally state when you wake up that if you want to cryo you should ahelp to replace it

PM to-Admins: Yes, and it should have been replaced before, and so they did not ahelp to replace it, and thus wasting that foxtrot role. I am asking for enforcement of the rules

We don’t punish people for going to cryo. If you had ahelped sooner, as I said I would’ve opened the role up to ghosts - not you specifically.

They chose to join the foxtrot role that specifically is limited and cannot be refunded when cryo’d, but will leave the slot open for later ghosts to join.

Did not ahelp to open it so others could take it, when specifically there is a message that says you should. I should also emphasize that they said they only cryo’d due to not wanting to play corpsmen.

They wasted a limited slot role, you refused to replace the foxtrot role initially on the first ahelp so i couldnt get it, and now doubling down saying what theyre doing is okay. Then I’ll stand by this report.

we do not punish players for not wanting to play a role and going into cryo.

as you can see here, Squad riflemen this includes Foxtrot if they are to cryo, they’re unlikely to be punished as they are unimportant to the game. LIke-wise, I was dealing with other Ahelps when you made your initial ahelp, I was the solo staff on, and eating lunch I wasn’t going to put time into a low-risk role cryoing. Yes, they should’ve ahelped to be replaced, but I am not going to bat an eye to it either as it was nearly hijack when they cryo’d
(i’ve been informed I should clarify what I was eating for lunch, It was a beagle with grilled chicken, onion, lettuce, tomato and garlic mayo.)

While yes, squad rifleman is a low effort role, but the issue here isnt that, its that 1. They are a Corpsmen, and 2. They are Foxtrot. It is not specifically stated in the rules but this is one of those instances where its not clearly stated, but if you think it through, definitely could be valid considering Corpsmen is a specialized role that is limited unlike a squad rifleman and Foxtrot is a Tech point buy that requires a lot of points for it to be bought, which wastes the marines side of resources as they lost not just 1 foxtrot marine, but a corpsmen specifically.

While yes, the second ahelp where you finally decided to replace it was too late and was during hijack, the first ahelp I did was before hijack even started. I wanted to go foxtrot but was rejected and at the point you’ve finally relented I had already missed the opportunity.

EDIT: To add to this. This is specifically stated upon awakening as ANY of the Foxtrot

Thanks for the report.

We’ve taken a look at the situation and have come to the following conclusion:

Immediately cryoing as an ERT - it appears that some confusion has been taken in the stance that because the role of the ERT was not “high risk” that it is okay to cryo, as indeed, it states in the spawn text for Foxtrot, this is not something we want to encourage and will be taking the relevant action against the cryoing individual. I’ll also be updating the list of high risk roles for Rule 8 to specifically state that ERTs are indeed not to be wasted, in an attempt to at least reduce any confusion in handling such cases in the future.

As for the part of being denied a spawn to take the slot, this is down to staff discretion and not something guaranteed to occur for a variety of factors, in this instance due to staff levels being minimal and said individual was busy dealing with other issues at the time, it’s understandable to us that they did not elect to spawn an individual to offer to ghosts.

The individual who cryo’d will be actioned. An update to the risk roles will be added to alleviate this issue arising in future and the staff team will be alerted to be mindful of niche cases like this.
