Description of the incident:
I spawned at round start as a CLF surv and I was given instructions to play a character who has memory and mental issues. I decided that I wouldn’t be hostile to marines and submit to them. So I went up to the ship with the rest of the survs. I waited for a long time at CIC, left and walked around, and then met the CL and another marine (high-ranking) who escorted me and a few other survs into CIC. I gave up all my guns when asked to. Note that during this whole time, I was fireman-carrying a smoldering, mutilated corpse of a colonist, referring to it as my friend, because as stated before my character is not the most mentally stable. The commander questioned me about allegiances, to which I didn’t provide any satisfactory answers (e.g. seeming like I don’t really know or remember too well). They started demanding that I salute the flag and pledge allegiance, but my character wasn’t the type of person to salute and give allegiances willy-nilly. I got the impression that I was being threatened (I believe someone also flashed a gun at me), and my conversation with another surv led my character to believe that the marines wouldn’t hesitate to shoot me dead where I stood. Combined with the threats of sedition, my character was under the belief that if things started to go south, they’d be executed on the spot. I tried my best to RP and create a situation where the commander could just stop caring and let me free to deploy. But then I got incapacitated, and when I came to, I was being held so I can’t move. I tried resisting and demanded that I be unhanded, to no avail. My character, threatened by the commander and whoever was doing the restraining, feared for their life (plus, as before, is not mentally healthy), and didn’t want to be executed on the spot. With my character having nothing else to do, I hit the button on my keyboard that caused my character to explode, gibbing the commander and killing most of CIC. Some survs were nearby and got hurt, but that wasn’t my intention. They just happened to be in close proximity of the conflict.
Because of this event NessiePendragon gave me a permanent survivor ban and a 3-hour general ban, for violating the hostile survivor rules. I disagree that I ever violated these rules, because I was not playing a hostile surv. As mentioned before, I decided to be friendly at the start, and therefore gave up my participation in an active hostile faction against the marines. I wished to help them out with the operation, and I was trying to make it more interesting for command by RPing as a character who wasn’t right in the head (as I was instructed), couldn’t remember much, and just gave generally vague answers that didn’t really mean anything. Considering I played an unstable colonist who has survived around xenos and who has past CLF experience (which likely has a large mental toll/PTSD in addition to everything else) under the threat of execution with no apparent way out, and who also has the ability to explode on command, then it’s perfectly reasonable ICly for my character to resist in that moment in any way possible, including falling back to a last resort option. My ban seems to hinge on the fact that I originally spawned as CLF, but if a non-CLF version of the same colonist was subject to that situation, then it would have been reasonable for them to do the same thing.
I never had any kind of personal mission or intention to bomb CIC, or wipe out command, or “kill the evil marines” or anything like that. My character was simply put in an exceptional situation where their life was at risk, and acted as anyone in that position would. If the commander wasn’t as threatening and just explained that my character would just have to stay in the brig instead of being executed, then there wouldn’t have been a problem with that. And to address a possible argument that I should have known that I wouldn’t be immediately executed, my character wouldn’t have known that ICly, especially with their mental issues, and I also was following round start instructions by having a foggy/ambiguous memory.
Also for some reason my ban note is quoting my deadchat. As far as I know, that’s an OOC channel that is completely unrelated to the played character. Unless there was a change where I have to keep roleplaying as my character ICly in deadchat, I’m not really sure what’s up with that.
As a final note, it seems that I got positive reactions from the players involved in the situation, and I got the impression that I did a good job at creating interesting roleplay with command and providing them with an entertaining experience.
I am requesting that my bans are removed along with my note. I would also like an apology.
