Last light :Alexi Wilhelm

I don’t know if anyone will ever read this. But if you are, than that likely means i died. Please don’t read this out of guilt, i wouldn’t want that. I just wish for that is something, anything accounting what happen here.

The day started out like any other on this god forsake world, I Alexi Wilhelm a humble electrician and one of the few general handy man this colony has. Had gotten called out over to the company’s facilities that were build into the cave system. I had thought it may have been one of the usual issues, with the faulty door motors or perhaps the air filtration systems getting gummed up again.

It was the dust, the stuff gets everywhere and as one can imagine its puts lot of strain and stress on most of systems on the colony that has moving parts. But this time, it was fire damage of all things. Apparently a disgruntled employee tried to set burn down laboratories, the security forces never did tell me why he had done it. Frankly they likely didn’t know the reason anyhow, just that it happened.

The damage was not even that bad, but it had cause one of the main electrical lines in the lab to melt partly. Issue was it would some times short circuit when the wall would flex from walking by. The fix was rather simple in the end, i just had the fellows in security flip the breaker for that line and i just spliced in a new line. The wall was still fucked and the line didn’t look that pretty, but it got the job done.

The higher ups of the lab were sure as hell not happy with my work. But frankly i had other jobs needed to get done and it would have taken me likely good few days to get it looking good. Thankful i was able to get the asshats off my case by telling them that i would need to keep the power cut for whole time i was work. Seems in the end they would rather a fast patch job, then a lengthy full fix.

Still it didn’t stop them from docking a good part of the pay for the job and the asshats wonder why they get people turning to arson. Not that any of that matters now, but i feel the need to highlight just how shitty the fellows from the lab were.

After i had gotten my other jobs done, which were nothing of note just fixing a few doors that keep getting stuck. I head back down to the dorms ready to crash into bed, only to find my stuff was getting tossed out and rummage through. By the colonial marshals no less and it was not just my shit but every ones.

I was livid, but i knew better than to spouting off. It rather hard to not get cold feet with UA peace keepers roaming the streets SMGs in hand. I never did find out why they were going through every body’s stuff, but if had to guess its likely had to do with the strike going on. The Marshals likely thought someone had dirt on the miners.

Rumor had it when the strike first kicked off, one of the marshals had executed a miner. It most likely was a bunch of bullshit, i have very little love for the marshals but they know damn well that would only make things worst. if had to guess the marshals were looking for who ever started that damn rumor.

The sun was starting to set at that point, so seeing how wasn’t about try to get to my room i headed down to Leo’s. Man was one shit cook, half of the stuff he made taste no better than what you could get from the food venders. But he was one chill man, push comes to shove i knew he would let me crash at his restaurant. low and behold he did, not only for me but just about every else the Marshals had displaced.

Frankly this is likely the only reason i am even here writing this now. After getting a horrid night of sleep on the cold floors sharing a blanket with two other random men i had never seen before. i awoke in the morning to screams come from outside, me and the rest rushed out to see man with his chest burst open.

It was a truly a horrid sight, i could see the white ribs splayed out like as if something had forced them from the inside. The worst thing was that man was still alive, i could see his expose lungs struggling to take in air and his heart still trying to beat. Nothing other then gurgling sounds came out his mouth. The poor man likely had blood pooling in his lungs.

A nurse that had crashed at Leo’s with the rest of us was trying her damn best to slow the bleeding, but there was not much she could do when the mans chest was exploded outwards like that. In the end the man stopped breathing with in the minute.

The marshals ended up taking there sweet time getting down there, we gave our testimony then with out nearly word more they bagged the body and fucked off. They didn’t even take anyone in to custody or even really had that many questions for us. I had later from some fellows over the radio learn that this was not the only person that that had happen to.

It was in fact the tenth that happen that night. so guess it really no wonder why the marshals took so long. Still shit was clearly getting bad, first we had the strike, arson and now this. What’s more the UA peace keepers were nowhere to be found. The word was they went into the mines to put down the strike late in the night. Only issue was nether the UA peace keepers or Miners where coming out.

At this point i could just tell things were just going to get worst. Leo and rest crashing at his dive agreed, none of us wanted to get back work. Something was going very wrong in the background and not a single one of us wanted to get caught up into it. So with Leo’s blessing we started to fortify up his restaurant, one group headed down the dorms to grab some bedding and spare clothing.

As for the rest of us, we started to set up barricades along the windows to hopefully catch any stray shots that may fly over. Around mid day, a group of four fully kitted up Company security had ended up passing by. They did not even bat a eye at what we were doing, one of men had even taken off his side arm holster and set to ground.

All he said before picking up the pace to join back with the posse was “Its a loan, just pay back the interest on ammo.” This just had made it all the more clear something was deeply wrong. By the time it had started to get dark the group that headed down to the dorms had never came back. It wasn’t that no one had come from the north it just that the group that head gone to the dorms were missing.

A marshal had ended coming by and had told us he saw them enter the dorms but never saw the group leave. He had ended up asking if he could stay with us for the night, many of us were still rather pissed off at the marshals but its was clear to us that none of was happening was their fault. so we let him in.

He ended up filling us in what had been going on, it seem the UA peace keepers had in fact gone into the mines. But never ended up leaving, the marshal had tried to contact them but they kept getting static. so they had readied up a few tear gas smokes and some shotguns, headed into the mines to find out what happened. He ended up losing contact with them as well. Hence why he asked to stay with us, safety in numbers after all.

Icing on the cake, was that he let slip that people had been going missing for some time. Me and most others i had talked to had thought the missing people had just got swept up with the strike. That night we all drew straws for who was going to stay up and keep guard, i was rather unlucky and got the short one.

I was given the VP78 the unnamed security fellow had left for us and took up guard near the front door. The night was long and boring, it was so damn boring i fucked up and let my guard down for but a moment. Before i knew what was happening i had gotten grab from above and dragged into the vents. I kicked and screamed and tried to get loose but what ever the hell was dragging me off was much stronger then me.

I couldn’t get a good look at who or what ever the thing was but had on some hard plates on its body, i not sure if was perhaps some odd kind of amour or what. All i know is my flailing had no effect, but thankful i still had a strong grip on the VP78 and was able to get shot off on my assailant.

But by the time i was able to i was alrighty pulled out onto the roof. Still the round had seemly did number on what ever the fuck it was and it dropped me and sprinted off the roof. But i was still not out of hot water yet, i could see some other black figures shifting in the dark of the roof. i took my chances and jumped off. i stuck the landing well but the things jumped after me blocking the path into Leo’s.

I knew i was not about to get in and knew it likely would not have matter if did get back it. so i just ran, taking pot shots behind me to hopefully nail the things. I didn’t know where to go, so i took off to the communication array. I was out of breath and wheezing by the time i made it, The things were no were to be seen.

I don’t know if the others are fine, or what those things are. All i know is that i am out of ammo for this VP78 and that what ever the fuck is out there is strong, fast and tough. So i tripped the emergency distress beac..

A blood soaked set of papers found at the northing landing zone in telecommunications. No body was found.
