Miles

What is your Synthetic’s Personality?

Miles in essence is a gun nut. Designed by ARMAT in rival to Hyperdyne Corporation when they entered the synthetic market, Miles was designed to aid the USCM, TWE, and other large groups who either have strategic agreements in weapon maintenance, along with tasks such as engineering and advanced life support. Rarely, he is sold even on some civilian markets as a gunsmith for independent businesses who think the cost is worth the investment, so long as they have the proper permits and agree to ARMAT’s terms and conditions.

Miles’s original personality, while not rude or hostile, was very poor and inhuman. The reason being for this model, ARMAT decided to divert more processing power in the synthetic’s integrated carbon 60 processor for specialized information on ARMAT weaponry and weaponry in general than standard synthetics, and solicited WY’s synthetic department to aid in this effort. As a result, this slight modification has led to the Miles units speaking less like a human, and more like a status report from a machine, almost speaking entire statements in singular sentences. This was identified by Weyland Yutani and brought up to ARMAT; while ARMAT initially was uncaring about the social aspect of the Miles unit, after internal deliberation and multiple meetings with WY on the importance of synthetic integration into social settings, ARMAT caved agreed to work further with WY to fix this issue.

Much effort was made by WY to make these speech patterns, while retaining the original ARMAT information in the central processing unit, WY synthetics technicians managed to fix several issues with speech patterns and interactions. Ultimately, Miles’s personality was upgraded from “inhuman” to “blunt” or “brusque” or even a bit “cold”. ARMAT, not wishing to spend more money, decided this was sufficient. Shortly after, the Miles unit entered manufacturing.

How will they react to the different ranks of the USCM, what would they talk about in a one on one conversation? What are their interests? What is an advertisement logline that could be written for them?

When referring to riflemen and other enlisted personnel, Miles would always state their names as “Rifleman/PFC John” or “Corporal Lastname”. Only in extended conversations of dialogue would Miles refer to first names, seeing it as a way to expedite the conversation process.

Back to his original design, Miles would speak often to marines about their weaponry, especially ARMAT weaponry. However, as part of ARMAT’s weapon knowledge, this also translates to different tactics and even help on shooting tactics, such as how best to zero in on a target, as well as other advice from ARMAT (notably how the Hyperdyne’s EVI-87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle and Twinhammer pistol are vastly inferior to ARMAT’s XM99A Phased Plasma Pulse Rifle and M10 autopistol).

“-NEW! ARMAT’s Miles Synthetic model-”
“When it comes to ARMAT weapon maintenance, don’t settle for sub-par. He’ll go the extra Miles so you don’t have to!”

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

I’ve played synth for about 266 hours, and I’ve always had fun. It’s always enjoyable to talk to marines about the lore of their weapons, and different tactics and strategies just to see what they prefer, or even if they know about weapon maintenance or how best to operate a weapon. I also really enjoy the idea of synthetics, and some of my favorite scifis have synthetics in them. I really like the interactions and unique RP experience you can get from playing a synthetic, and I’d love to continue doing so.

In short - I REALLY like roleplaying as a toaster :^)

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

I’ve had a bunch over the years, it’s hard to think of one specifically. Recently I was capped as an SG, and when I thought I was completely done, a special team of marines and a synthetic came to my aid. Being latestate, I watched them escort me back to the medical dome, and had them all guarding me. While these aren’t interactions as me being a human, when I was a synth I’ve always enjoyed the multi-synth events, speaking with other synths on how they view the Marine’s situation on the planet, or how what went wrong with the colonists, notably how their weaponry was ill suited to combat the xenomorph presence. I also had a fun round as synth on Chances when I was playing synth; when the FOB was overrun I managed to save Bravo SL and extract him to the medbay. Being the last two on the planet I removed his larva and we escaped the remaining xenomorphs and both escaped on the Normandy at LZ2 back to the Almayer.

Synthetic Character Story:

Skills:

Engineering:

Very familiar, I have 53 hours as comtech, and can repair APCs, make cades, hack doors, the works. I know how best to place cades to give them the best chance of survival against xenos. I also know how to set the OB canon, and how to set AA.

Command:

Familar, I understand how to update tacmaps, use the techtree, and overwatch consoles.

Medical:

Extremely familiar, I have 67 hours as medic, and know how to quickly treat patients, even those with severe injuries. I can also do chemline work, and know how to perform all the surgeries I am not super familiar with research however.

Requisitions:

I’d say I’m pretty good at req, I know what crates do what, what marines need in the field, where the attachments are, and how to operate the crate console from req, and how to link up with CIC to send supply drops.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

Combat as synthetic boils down to “is it absolutely necessary?” The golden rule is that if your intervention isn’t ABSOLUTELY required to save a human life (without getting yourself killed) then don’t do it.

For example, a marine is being operated on in the LV medical done, the rifleman guarding you runs to hydro to get some ammo or an MRE, when a lesser drone attacks. The marine on the operating table is unable to defend themselves, and the lesser drone begins to attack the marine and you. Under this rule, you are allowed to combat the xeno until it either 1) completely retreats from medical dome or 2) dies.
Now let’s say in that example a rifleman IS guarding you. In this case, you should step back and let the marine do the fighting, as your intervention/involvement isn’t absolutely necessary to save a human life (unless somehow that marine goes down too, in that case you can intervene to assist).

In short - don’t fight unless there’s no other way to save a human life, and even in that case, don’t die in the process.

Delta hijack is when things are different; combat rules are more loose, but not completely removed. During hijack, synths are allowed to be more aggressive, and looking to end the threat onboard rather than just deter it. However, you SHOULD NOT be stepping over revivable/injured marines just to melee a xeno, only if there are no marines in need of help are you allowed to be more aggressive.

We all know you can roleplay, but things have changed a lot over the last few months so we need to know you can keep with new guidelines and rules, keeping that in mind…

I’d like to know what you would do if the XO ordered you to do FOB surgery for an operation, it’s a high pop round with a full medbay awake. A CMO, multiple shipside surgeons, and a field doctor that is already set up in the FOB. There is no line of patients waiting for the surgeon or medical emergencies in view. However it is clear to you that other departments are not as well staffed. What do you do?

This one made me think a little; because this order is from a member of command staff and is lawful, as well as not breaking any programming rules, I am under obligation to obey it.

However, I think the first thing I’d do is say, “Captain Baldie, the medical department is fully staffed, and requisitions only has one newer CT. Are you sure you would like me to deploy?” Hopefully the XO will look at crew manifest and say “Oh, my mistake. Assist somewhere else”

But let’s say this XO is hellbent on me going to FOB; the next thing I’d do is request an ASO or SEA to assist in requisitions. Hopefully there’s one ready to help, and I’d deploy to FOB to assist the field surgeon.

But then let’s say the lone CT cryos or jumps down the ASRS pit never to be seen again. Marines are begging for supplies and I tell the XO I can help Requisitions until they get staff. If the XO still says no, I’d just go up to assist req anyway.
From my point of view, this is an emergency situation where marines are in dire need of supplies, which no one on the ship can perform/is performing, and this lack of supplies will lead to human deaths from lack of ammo, flares, etc.

I’m very hesitant to not follow the order, because at the end of the day I’m supposed to follow the commands of my superiors in good faith, not to question everything they do (So long as these orders don’t break my programming or marine law); but in my scenario here the functionality of a critical shipside department that can deploy aid to further prevent human mortality rate is something I would have to put my foot down.

I’d stick to assisting Req until they had the appropriate staff wake up, or we got an ASO/SEA/SO to take over, then I’d inquire if the XO still wants me at FOB.
