Essentially I believe that it should be possible for a staff member (or a regular player if granted the power) the ability to use a telephone to communicate with someone in the game.
Think of an example of USCM High Command phoning CIC to discuss a situation, or Corporate Command talking to the CL regarding a mission they have.
Essentially when it comes to HC-Player interactions, you either have a Fax, or in-person. There is no in-between, I feel this idea would have great merit.
I agree with you, I think this is a great idea. Itâs clearly in character, allows for quick direct responses, and (I imagine) itâs quicker for players and admins to be able to talk than to write faxes in a proper style.
It exist use any off phone map to call the almayer and itâll show up after. The one on the ERT station works and gets labeled âundisclosed locationâ
Very nice idea. Iâve had missed a fax from Wey-Yu doing something else, and had the admin/mod give me a call about it. It was a pretty nice situation.
So it just sounds like the concept is psudo-in game but that it just needs some refinement.
Perhaps a better way for staff to be aware of it, or to change the name of the area from âundisclosed areaâ to a more fitting name.
Iâd also argue that a phone call from High Command/Corporate Leadership should have a fairly unique ringtone, to ensure the person who is picking the phone knows this is a High Command call and not just some rando pretending.
I discovered a pseudo work around to emulate this concept in-game.
What you need to do is spawn next to any telephone in the game, preferably I use the one on the Admin ERT z-leve.
You then need to var-edit the phoneâs âremote_signalâ, you can set this to whatever you want the caller-ID to be. For example, if you want to make the call come from High Command, you can set the remote_signal to âUSCM High Commandâ.
It does not matter what human mob you spawn in as the phone only picks up the signal ID.
The good thing about this, is that there is no way for a regular player to change their caller ID, so people should be able to trust that when they get a call from âCorporate Special Divisionâ or âUSCM High Commandâ they generally know its a admin call.
Iâve used this for several rounds to speak to people in-game as either USCM High Command, the Corporation, or in one event the UPP Ambassador to the United Americaâs.
