Low Pop ideas: Alllow Squad Locking

Pretty much if the server is under an X amount of players, CIC can decide, probably with the command tablet or in the bubble. To lock out some squads, meaning that players when joining the round as an squad marine cannot be put into into and locked out squads. It will also auto condense marines who are already in a squad and shuffle them into another squad. or if shutting down a squad, a UI could pop up to like the CIC choose who goes where instead.

this would be fantastic when you are managing low pop and bravo has like 3 people and charlie has 2, but alpha and delta have 8 each and you don’t need to micro manage and keep shuffling marines and new marines around in the system each time someone wakes up. People joining the round just get put into the only open squads, maybe even a message that pops up saying that their current preferred squad is offline.

putting people in squads they didn’t pick lowers cohesion. Better to have unequal cohesive squads than auto balanced ones where everyone splinters to stick with the people they know anyway

In my experience,

If people get put in a squad they don’t like/intend to listen,
They will just do what they want to do
Look at Bravo PFCs/Lance Corporals when they are ordered to stay at FOB.
Half of them didn’t want to be there and run out, the other half signed up for FOB and stays on it.

Truth be told, for a person who usually plays lowpop (60-80 players). Commands way to mitigate low pop is to base their idea, plan and coordination AROUND low-pop.

You can’t have split half of charlie to be at comms/watch for backliners, as charlie is only like 9 people, and you need roughly 7-8 to be combat capable (numbers vary based on the experience of the marines)

So this idea won’t really solve much.

yeah this will do nothing, if someone really cares what squad they get they aren’t listening to anything CIC has to say, popping the key out of their headset then getting a new one from req then moving on as if nothing happened

I mean we have the fireteam system, what hurts more? Being in a squad with just three people? Or being FT2 for a squad with 10 or so people?

it’s not Inherently a bad idea to just, turn extra squads off when you can barely get 2 squads combat capable.
