LV624 would be so cool if it was a jungle map and not a fucking cave map

LV624 has this entire jungle biome with the research dome, hydro, engineering compound, all these interesting outdoor areas with actual tactical variety. It could be an amazing map with flanking routes, ambush positions, open firefights in the wilderness.

Instead, 90% of every round is spent fighting in the fucking caves.

Because that’s where the hive is. So every single LV624 round devolves into the exact same chokepoint torture session where marines file into narrow cave tunnels and get shredded by xenos camping corners, or xenos try to push out through two chokepoints and get mowed down by marine firing lines.

The entire jungle portion of the map - you know, the actual interesting part - becomes irrelevant after the first 15 minutes. All the fighting is underground in tight corridors where tactics are reduced to “throw bodies at the chokepoint until someone breaks.”

LV624 is technically a jungle map. Practically, it’s a cave map with a jungle lobby you pass through on your way to another miserable cave grind.

Just once I want an LV624 round where the actual fighting happens in the jungle areas instead of everyone immediately descending into the caves for 2 hours of chokepoint hell.

They banned the person doing the rework, they should’ve waited for them to finish it first. Now we are forever condemned to LV624 chokepoint/FOB stalemates

I’m pretty sure waiting for somebody to finish a map they were working on then immediately banning them after would be pretty unethical. If anyone wants to pick it up they could probably ask the person who was working on it for permission to finish it

there were two reworks being made but the guy making the first one got banned and the guy making the second one quit CM entirely

the jungle areas themselves are pretty small and narrow, outside of the SW corner of the map there is just not enough room to actually…have a jungle fight.

Honestly I’d love to see most of the area north of the river converted into a dense jungle. Replace Tfort/containers/etc with a huge wild jungle filled with lizards.

I received a DM from someone asking to pick up the torch to continue the project. This is acceptable. I trust Steelpoint and the other maintainers to know my goals for it by this point anyway. The work is done, it just needs maintenance and upkeep.

Kyogon already posted this. It just takes an enterprising soul.

Agreed, a proper jungle map with overgrown foliage and such would be great. LV-624 has so much wasted space around the edges of the map and the caves are such a slog, they bounce between one choke after another to huge rooms that the xenos struggle to even use half the time.

I did finish my LV remake, but due to disagreements with the maintainers and such they don’t want it. Don’t want to go into the details but yeah I don’t want to do any more stuff for CM. However the map is still up for grabs, and I don’t have any issues with anyone using it.

It has a bunch of inserts you can’t see here, perhaps around the same or more then the current LV, but more varied.

I suppose it does have more Jungle in general then the original LV, but yeah not much more, just more detailing and variation with all the new temple stuff.

Here’s a link to a higher quality image if you can’t view the full res here:

Also yeah there was some very minor issues that needed fixing, but since it was denied I never got around to it.
