Sup. Liz Cross here.
I ran a round with this guy multiple times, but I thought I would play Staff Officer and give him a proper review.
I did wake up 18 minutes in, so I don’t have much about the opening of it, but during briefing, Ponds gave a basic overview, simple roleplay opening, love it.
He was supported by a CO for the first bit of it, that was giving orders, so I’ll talk pretty minimally on those.
During the op his orders were very much “Fine.” He did some unique things; and properly manoeuvred his troops beyond “Murderball X, then Y, then Z”.
Despite the orders being slightly questionable, they were not without reason. Made plenty of ,abcd instead of announcements, which is fine, but not ideal.
In short, he felt like he was more of a lieutenant than a commander, but that’s a matter of the CO on deck. I’ll talk more of his orders if I ever play Ponds without a CO.
Despite having a CO to cover for his command, his RP was acceptable, and I got a sense of character from him. He was a strong, standard commander. Which, while not interesting, was consistent. Made quite a few flavour messages, like a brief rundown of the AO during briefing as well as various non-combat messages from his chair. I appreciate that.
In short, from what I saw, Ponds was a competent enough commander that tried with their Roleplay. I could see sense in his orders; and I could see that he was trying hard to roleplay in the commanding chair.
+1
for now. I’ll see if I can get another op without a CO that’s taking the reins to see how he commands then.
He has a pred WL, and I’ve played with him numerous times and have seen how he’s committed to RP, not just murder-boning. While he may not always frag as a pred, he at least makes it enjoyable for both sides. He’ll also be more than capable of not abusing the in-game tool’s he been given for his own entertainment.
+1 for me, I seen Sampson and he is a great XO and a good SL I believe he will make a really good commanding officer, he is very proud of his work and takes high honor on what he does
Sampson is one of the few people who treat their role as a duty and a privilege and not a right to be a prick, if its Pred, SL, Req, XO, SO etc.
Always willing to learn more and admit and apologize when things go wrong Sampson goes above and beyond to not just be an excellent member of this community but to be a role model to many others, I remember teaching Sampson his first baby steps and to see him flourish and get his flowers is inspiring! I cannot wait to see him pushing morale & victory on the frontlines to new heights!
So I’ve seen and interacted with Sampson ‘Ironfist’ Ponds more or less since they first joined the server and started playing. Never seen them break a rule or grief in anyway, always trying to roleplay well and always acting professional and appropriate when playing command. I remember them grinding XO months ago for the reason of trying to get their name out there and show their potential roleplay for the Predator whitelist. Despite having low role hours they were able to obtain the whitelist due to their roleplay skills and I’ve seen them put solid effort into their Yautja roleplay to make it fun/interesting for marines.
Anytime I have rolled XO/SO and have seen them as a SL they have always done a great job leading their squad. Communication is quick and on point, responding to orders from CIC and doing their best to carry them out. During a mutiny is the type of player to try and talk/roleplay the situation out peacefully rather than resorting to immediate violence like most. I’ve also seen them play plenty of CMP and they understand marine law well.
I have observed them XOing in a lot of sticky situations and have to say they are an extremely level headed/calm individual. I’ve never seen them freak out at people or get mad when something unfair occurs in a round and they get completely screwed over. I don’t think they’re the most robust player on the server but I do think they’re a very solid roleplayer, very humble and willing to learn while doing their best to help others and are more or less putting in a solid effort to try and lead the marines the best they can. I don’t have any real unique criticism/advice to offer honestly, just keep playing, learning and improving as command. The more time you sink in the more comfortable and better you’ll become at handling anything. Even if this application gets denied keep playing command roles often, you show improvement week to week.
Based on how they’ve acted as a marine and used their Yautja whitelist I believe all in all that they’ll do the CO whitelist justice and eventually end up a fantastic Major.
Dear captain, it is with great honor that I invite you to join our mighty Major staff, and I am most pleased to accept you into our ranks. I look forward to meeting with you in person to discuss future assignments, and to determine where you may best be placed. I would ask you to prepare yourself for the promotion ceremony that you may be properly recognized as a Major.
