The only way I can see a balance to resisting out of nests again is if it’s tied to heavy armor (thus you escape the nest by ditching your armor, since most of the nesting material is attached to the armor) and you lose your armor and backpack - and it also needs to require you to have a boot knife still. Essentially, a niche situation that gives you one shot, and if a xeno sees you attempting it and disarms you while you’re doing it, you drop the knife and you failed. Maybe have it take 90 seconds or so of squirming and cutting (very visibly for xenos to know it’s going on)
Gives a bit of a buff to heavy armor which is in a weird place, as a bonus.
MAYBE make it only possible from hive CLUSTERS and PYLONS, and not the CORE itself, as well? Spitballing a bit here.
i would bump it down to a minute but i think it would be nice giving a hugged marine a choice between trying to escape or a pyrhic death possibly destroying the core and caps or hurting the xenos backline due to no one managing the hive or having poor hive design
This just invokes the original problem imo, where due to even the slight threat of a hive wipe by a marine, someone is going to be stuck watching all the caps in the hive for the round, only this time they disarm everyone wearing heavy armour once instead of multiple times. I can definitely see gigachad heavy armour users simply AFKing in the hive, never resisting out of the nest as psychological torture, forcing the xenos to stare at them until they burst.
Personally, I do not believe this would be enjoyable for xenos- The end result is about the same as in 2016.
I don’t believe there’s any point in trying to balance out non-perma nesting. The very threat of someone getting out and nuking the hive will compel hive babysitters to mindlessly flouride stare at caps 24/7 regardless of how much ‘balance’ is added.
We already identified this as a problem, and made a solution (permanesting) that solved it. Why are we trying to bring back old issues we solved almost half a decade ago?
no more like checking on the hive every so often and making good design choices in building the hive if you have all of the caps in one big room around the hive core and one gets out and blows up the core and caps that’s because of bad design choices which should be punished.
So in practice, sitting around doing nothing the entire round until a marine escapes.
The second you leave a marine is going to start breaking out, and nobody wants to have an OT nade go off in the hive, so you’re going to get people sitting around doing nothing the entire round until a marine escapes because otherwise the hive blows up.
No design can stop a marine with a machete (or hell even just a knife) from cutting down the doors and rushing queen with an OT nade.
After having permanesting for a long time now, and having experienced breaking out of nests aswell, I honestly liked breaking out of nests.
It gives a reason to not just ghost immediately upon being face hugged, and roleplay trying to break out of the nests.
How many times have you been nested and then ghost, only for the marines to murderball and unnest people, this is the worst experience currently in the game i feel right now.
Now, maybe the mechanics should be changed, but having experienced breaking out of nests vs not breaking out of nests, I personally liked breaking out a bit more, gives a bit more roleplay dynamic to the game by not finding people “SSD” when you start unnesting.
You get a prompt to reenter your body if you use the prompt the game gives you asking if you want to ghost when you’re first nested.
Additionally you clearly never played the xeno side of breaking out of nests, AKA staring at the screen waiting to stun somebody breaking out because if you don’t ten maxcaps will go off and wipe hive, it very simply isn’t fun for xenos, and marines will either suicide and basically decide the round just because whoever was watching caps nodded off (serious concern considering how fucking boring it is) or fail to actually escape the hive.
Ah yes, the incredible roleplay of watching paint dry for 10 minutes, spamming ‘me”stares’ at the AFK XX-278 Sentinel as I prime my maxcap and destroy the entire hive… which would only happen 1 in a 100 captures. Just ghost and become a xeno, it’s a better use of time.
Waiting for evo is kindof annoying but you can always just play whatever T1 instead of AFKing in hive, resisting out of nests just means “YOU, STAND THERE FOR THE ENTIRE ROUND. YOU ALSO HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION FOR THE ENTIRE ROUND OR HIVE WILL BE DESTROYED.”
i don’t see how this is an issue most hives have 1-2 lessers in it at a time not to mention a few drones they can guard the nest just fine and by the time the hive doesn’t have any xenos in it it also won’t have any caps soooooo
There have been several changes that would have to be rolled back.
The first being that “hosts that see each other burst faster”. In the good old days hosts that see each other would burst much faster. It was one of the original uses of the clear resin wall. The tradeoff was… you put more hosts together… they burst faster but one slip up means they all free each other.
Without this in place nests will just be a 1×1 block with multiple doors, surrounded by walls. Even if you got out and primed a nade… you would just blow up the resin.
The second is you would have to roll back some larva amount changes. Small hives would not be able to protect multiple caps and would need more larva per cap to spawn in compensation to post “guards”. A 1 for 1 probably wouldnt cut it anymore
I dislike permanests but man resisting out sucked. Youd spend 5minutes struggling… to just be stunned and re attached. Then wait 5 more minutes
why would I respawn as a lesser to click on AFK people who come back every minute to press the resist key??? I could be playing cookie clicker instead.
Because with cookie clicker, you just make your local mouse shop happy. As lesser drone, you don’t have to break your mouse cause the marines only need to be clicked on every few minutes and help out the real benos.
I was thinking, if you can disable all grenades, that would be good.
Lets say you get nested, what would happen is that any grenades you got on you are unable to be primed. This would be with the flavor text on any grenade you examine, “There is some resin in the detonator, it is useless.”
This would not be so far fetched of an idea, as resin can be molded into the usual xeno things, so the resin gets on the grenade and just stops the grenade from being primed when you get nested.
Obviously grenade spec would maybe need immunity somewhat to this because it would be kinda BS for him. There are many things you can do, but i think the grenades in his grenade launcher should be disabled, but the grenades in his special lockable compartment thing he gets should be exempt from being disabled.
This still doesn’t get rid of the issue of “1-2 xenoes need to watch the hive whenever there’s a cap (about 90% of the time) and they have to babysit any marines trying to break out”.
You would also have to either need bursting time (5 minutes when nested) to like 10-15, unless you wanna have marines only taking like half a minute to a minute to break free.
