I then thought to myself and suggested, that it would probably be a good idea if a Flamer Nozzle could do this and have a small Splash radius depending on how much it can spread out, and you know also cost a bit more fuel than normal
This would make the Flame nozzle not an absolutely Dogwater Compared to the Fiji Filled Extinguisher UnderBarrel for the flamer.
Ehh, fireball as is is fine currently.
Rather make that its own thing. No need to remove fireball nozzel, people like it.
No harm in a second type of nozzel/flamer after all.
Btw, thermite works very well for that too, especially because its not as brigth and way cheaper.
I highlighted some things, the first paragraph is mainly about range of the flamer or burn time of Napthal (could be an interesting balance change?)
The second paragraph is about its use, showing how it can be refilled at the rear of the flamer (possible pyro loader kit if someone wants to buddy up with their friend idk?)
And lastly, the third paragraph shows its literal use, how you can “mist” Napthal at someone then blow it up in their face by creating a literal fireball, or like mentioned in this post, bounce it around corners, blindly and safely, at enemies. I think this would be a great balance change (possibly), because as it feels now, without some crazy upgraded flames, the flamers just dont feel that impactful (generally), I think them having a few unique things they could do like the things mentioned here would be both good for the marine gameplay loop and also possibly equally as importantly, the players enjoyment that want to play it, thoughts fellas?
If you read the text above the image, it demonstrates how flamer works in a PRESSURIZED environment. The flame redirects not due to flamer “magic”, but that was a decompressed zone which sucks the air, subsequently the flame, into it. The idea of bouncing flamer can only work if the fuel is solid, but then it produces another whole shebang of problems.
My friend… My brother. My kin. My son… Napthal is essentially a jelly.
It also doesn’t say that it requires a pressurized environment to use the bounce, it says that naked flames present a massive danger in a pressurized environment, which they do, you don’t use flamers on a space station or a space ship for that reason. TLDR, Napthal is essentially a jelly that sets you on fire, its why it sticks to you and its why it lasts 30 seconds when it burns (in the lore, not here because xenos have it easy)
If it were perfectly accurate it’d be great, but it’s not so it’s just meh. Too unreliable essentially. I mostly just use it for safe ranged weedclearing too.
Flamethrowers are basically just super soakers filled with flammable liquid, they’ll bounce of walls etc. the same way any pressurized liquid would.
It’s particularly bad because combustion consumes oxygen rapidly, and that oxygen doesn’t get replaced rapidly, so in a contained environment the fire quickly suffocates you, which is what happened to the crew of Apollo 1 - Wikipedia
