All too often a grenade will get thrown right in front of or in the push and hit a ton of marines. Whilst this is kino and soul, there should be an equally kino and soul mitigation to this. Let a marine ‘rest’ on top of a thrown grenade to absorb the shock but at the cost of instantly permaing them.
Add in a check or two to make sure that if a grenade happens to land under a crit marine this function doesn’t occur (the sacrifice has be intentional).
I don’t think it should be perma necessarily, but like, massive fucking damage everywhere. Organs fucked up, fracs all over, they lose a limb, maybe a small chance for a decap. Like fucked up enough that they’d need to go shipside.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I thought this was a mechanic for my first few hundred hours. Turned out I was just laying on grenades for the fun of it.
Being perma’d means that it’s not really worth it to do if the frontline won’t actively collapse because of the grenade. Two revivable marines dead from blast > one perma’d marine dead from blast.
