Description of the incident:
Hello. As of around last month, I have been making, and as of the past 2 weeks (?) playing on a new XO charachter exclusively on SO/XO. The charachter I play is a Prussian aristocratic military officer, “grandfathered” in by his long lineage of military history. I made this charachter because frankly I found CM getting stale for me as of recent incidents and I wanted to play a new charachter, one I havent done before. I decided upon this, and heavily roleplay in all my rounds as one.
My charachter is a steryotpyical Prussian military officer, he clicks his boots at attention, he always maintains his decorations. My charachter takes on the following to play into the charachter: Blonde hair, and blue eyes. That does not make him a nazi. Moreorless every round, my commander is sure to let his colleagues in CIC know that he’s a graduate of the Prussian Military Academy, this is just one of the things I do to create an immersive charachter.
My charachter flavortext was the following:
Heinrich Von Adler Weiss strikes you with an intimidating look. Several scars and wounds adorn his face caused by swords and other bladed weapons. He has a massive gash running from his cheek to his mouth.
As Heinrich walks his boots click on the ground, alerting everyone to his presence, you stand at attention.
A shining Pour le Merite is pinned to the lower left chest. On his collar is an Iron Cross. His belt reads: “Gott Mitt Uns”
These are all symbols of Prussian militarisim. He grew up and attended a military academy so he took part in German saber dueling and has scars on his face, a rite of passage for anyone who went to a Prussian military academy. He has hobnail boots, a symbol of Prussian military tradition which makes his boots click loudly as he walks. He refers to his superiors as Herr Kommandant. Heinrich is decorated with medals of the Prussian military era.
He is decorated with the Pour Le Merite, a medal only issued by the King of Prussia. The highest military honor of Prussia.
He is decorated with an Iron Cross, a military award created and given by the Kingdom of Prussia. The second highest military honor of Prussia.
His belt reads “Gott Mitt Uns”, God is With Us. The slogan “Gott Mitt Uns” was the battle cry of the Prussian and Imperial German Military, and was standard issue to be stamped into belt buckles for soldiers during the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, before and during WW1.
I didnt come up with an in depth explanation of how he got the Pour Le Merite or Iron Cross, perhaps they were grandfathered in, maybe the German Monarchy rose up with the TWE. Its good to play into the charachter and I took some creative liberty, its the same as having a duke or a priest as the XO/CO.
I was given a 30 day: Reason: Banned for 1 month. Rule 3, Community Expectations | Played as a blonde haired blue eyed character with their flavor text reading “A shining Pour le Mérite is pinned to the lower left chest. On his collar is an Iron Cross. His belt reads: “Gott Mitt Uns””. No nazi stuff.
There’s nothing nazi about my charachter, its all very developed Prussian militarisim. My charachter has a background that hails from Prussian aristocracy/nepotisim if you will, and he definetly acts the part. I explicity chose decorations and items that are strongly associated with Prussian militarisim to avoid this stuff. To me, it seems the ban was placed because I played a steryotypical German charachter. The thought process was excactly as follows: “How can I make my charachter as German as possible?” So, I chose a really German sounding name, he’s “Von Adler Weiss”, or “Of White Eagle”, a name only found in a royal.
There may be some connotations with anything German military history no matter how far back you go, yes, definetly the Nazi’s did use the boots, Iron Cross, and didnt change the belt buckles, but that does not make my depiction of my charachter a nazi at all. That does not turn my depiction of a Prussian officer into a Nazi. Just because some people will skip the steps when they hear “German military officer” and go to Nazi does not make me a nazi and I hope that that is understood. This wasn’t some creative attempt at creating a Nazi.
