Description of the incident:

Hello. As of around last month, I have been making, and as of the past 2 weeks (?) playing on a new XO charachter exclusively on SO/XO. The charachter I play is a Prussian aristocratic military officer, “grandfathered” in by his long lineage of military history. I made this charachter because frankly I found CM getting stale for me as of recent incidents and I wanted to play a new charachter, one I havent done before. I decided upon this, and heavily roleplay in all my rounds as one.

My charachter is a steryotpyical Prussian military officer, he clicks his boots at attention, he always maintains his decorations. My charachter takes on the following to play into the charachter: Blonde hair, and blue eyes. That does not make him a nazi. Moreorless every round, my commander is sure to let his colleagues in CIC know that he’s a graduate of the Prussian Military Academy, this is just one of the things I do to create an immersive charachter.

My charachter flavortext was the following:

Heinrich Von Adler Weiss strikes you with an intimidating look. Several scars and wounds adorn his face caused by swords and other bladed weapons. He has a massive gash running from his cheek to his mouth.

As Heinrich walks his boots click on the ground, alerting everyone to his presence, you stand at attention.

A shining Pour le Merite is pinned to the lower left chest. On his collar is an Iron Cross. His belt reads: “Gott Mitt Uns”

These are all symbols of Prussian militarisim. He grew up and attended a military academy so he took part in German saber dueling and has scars on his face, a rite of passage for anyone who went to a Prussian military academy. He has hobnail boots, a symbol of Prussian military tradition which makes his boots click loudly as he walks. He refers to his superiors as Herr Kommandant. Heinrich is decorated with medals of the Prussian military era.

He is decorated with the Pour Le Merite, a medal only issued by the King of Prussia. The highest military honor of Prussia.
He is decorated with an Iron Cross, a military award created and given by the Kingdom of Prussia. The second highest military honor of Prussia.
His belt reads “Gott Mitt Uns”, God is With Us. The slogan “Gott Mitt Uns” was the battle cry of the Prussian and Imperial German Military, and was standard issue to be stamped into belt buckles for soldiers during the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, before and during WW1.

I didnt come up with an in depth explanation of how he got the Pour Le Merite or Iron Cross, perhaps they were grandfathered in, maybe the German Monarchy rose up with the TWE. Its good to play into the charachter and I took some creative liberty, its the same as having a duke or a priest as the XO/CO.

I was given a 30 day: Reason: Banned for 1 month. Rule 3, Community Expectations | Played as a blonde haired blue eyed character with their flavor text reading “A shining Pour le Mérite is pinned to the lower left chest. On his collar is an Iron Cross. His belt reads: “Gott Mitt Uns””. No nazi stuff.

There’s nothing nazi about my charachter, its all very developed Prussian militarisim. My charachter has a background that hails from Prussian aristocracy/nepotisim if you will, and he definetly acts the part. I explicity chose decorations and items that are strongly associated with Prussian militarisim to avoid this stuff. To me, it seems the ban was placed because I played a steryotypical German charachter. The thought process was excactly as follows: “How can I make my charachter as German as possible?” So, I chose a really German sounding name, he’s “Von Adler Weiss”, or “Of White Eagle”, a name only found in a royal.

There may be some connotations with anything German military history no matter how far back you go, yes, definetly the Nazi’s did use the boots, Iron Cross, and didnt change the belt buckles, but that does not make my depiction of my charachter a nazi at all. That does not turn my depiction of a Prussian officer into a Nazi. Just because some people will skip the steps when they hear “German military officer” and go to Nazi does not make me a nazi and I hope that that is understood. This wasn’t some creative attempt at creating a Nazi.

Hello, on reading my appeal again I would like to reiterate that my usage of “cariacture” and “steryotype” are not meant in the literal sense. I am a self taught english speaker, while my grammar is good sometimes my word usage doesn’t come across right.

The idea in creating my charachters’ physicality was: “How can I make him German?”
The answer to that for me was Blonde hair and Blue eyes. Its the same as saying Nordic people are blonde and have long hair, or that Dutch people are tall. If I made a Dutch charachter who is explicity supposed to be very dutch, I will make him tall, the same as if I made a Swedish charachter I would give him blonde long blonde viking braids. It is a cool thing that adds flair.

Ok my replies were very cluttered so I will post again. I had no idea about this Nazi bunker, my name is not some sublte nazi messaging. My name is maximum charachter limit, AKA 24 charachters long. I had a chat with chatgpt about creating my charachter. I picked Eagle’s Nest as a callsign for ground command and CIC on my op’s as it is simply put a badass name, that is all there is to it.

When asked about making ww2 or space futuristic name, I picked ww2. This was really early in concept design and I was just doing the name. I wanted to pick a realistic name, that does not mean my charachter is a ww2 soldier. This was a flow state of sorts, just spitballing. I adapted my charachter to be a Prussian military soldier once I had the name. If there is any way I can show when this chat took place I will happily do it to prove myself. I didnt create my name to be racist.

This was the full chat I had when creating my charachter name. The screenshots didnt get posted in order for some reason but its all there and you can look for gaps but there wont be any, this is the full chat log.

My character was made with a chat gpt prompt with the following:

”hey gpt, im making an authoritarian german commander on a game colonial marines My chrachter needs a name, what is a very authoritarian/german name that is easy to remember for people”

There is nothing about Hypoborean or Agarthan Charachter. When asked by GPT wether I would like a WWII stylized name, or a “futuristic colonial marines sci-fi feel?” I said I wanted a WWII name, that is the alternative I preferred to having a space trek sounding name. I dont need to be perfect in creating my charachter name, that is as far as the name goes.

If somehow my German name recomended to me by Chatgpt is super secret subliminal nazi messaging then I think Chatgpt is being built by extremists. I chose the “realistic” option and not the super sc-fi space Germans. That doesnt make my charachter a Nazi. There is a picture above that show’s this as one of the 24 charachter final options in my conversation with GPT.

I dont get it, first its the medals being Nazi (they have nothing to do with the Nazis), and now its my name and what I called my CIC, “Eagle’s Nest” as if im supposed to know every Nazi commander hideout and plan my name around it?

I did call on probably my first full round where I mentioned to the deploying SO to codename ground Command as “Wolf’s Lair”, I was told by someone that, that was Hitler’s Bunker so mid-round I changed it to Eagle’s Nest, a name I thought acceptable.. Then, now I am told it is also one of Hitler’s bunkers again. These are like the coolest codenames and if I was told about this I would have changed it yet again, but I eat a 30 day ban for it as somehow that makes me a Nazi since in staff’s eyes I am deliberately creating my charachter to be as Nazi as possible.

Edit: If it helps, you can systematically check all my XO rounds during briefing/CIC discussion with officers, i’ll always leave snippets that im a Prussian military officer grandfathered in, and not a “WWII German/Nazi”. I’ll often introduce myself as a graduate of the Prussian Military Academy. I made two coincidences in naming my CIC ground command that happens to be Hitler’s bunkers. I think if anyone was being fair and impartial it wouldn’t be hard why I would name a tent (or cic)in the FOB with an overwatch console “Eagle’s Nest”. I will ammend those to something more appropriate.
