Character Name(s):

Hank “Hangover” Hanover
Sid “Ashigaru” Smith
SID

Why do you want to become a Mentor?:

I’ve always jumped at the chance to train new players in a way that is not only engaging, but also perpendicular to the SOUL of the Aliens universe. That is to say, I’m dramatic, and I love getting people invested in roleplay, and of course helping them out.

What gameplay areas do you know and which areas are you strong and weak in?:

Combat for Marine and T1 and T2 Xenos - Very Strong
Command, Queen, Engineering, Comtech, Intel- Strong
Requisitions, Marine Law, OT, Dropship Pilot, Corpsman Duties- Enough to Teach
Mess Tech, Paperwork, Doctor, Researcher - Minimal
Gunship Pilot - Never Touched

How often are to able to play CM?:

I work a two weeks on two weeks off schedule. So at least half the month.

While I’m not good at Doctor/Researcher and haven’t touched CAS. I’ve picked up a decent amount of knowledge and knowhow by association that I could, in theory. Workshop out something that could help someone with such things.

Also, have a great day!

I give my +1, Hank never blows things out of proportion from what I’ve seen but also has a pretty full handle on things Marine from SO to scout. Lots of xenos hours too, including queen, and I’ve never seen them get short with new xenos.

Unfortunately, prime lurker,

A very good abeit annoying lurker for marines. He surely improved alot from the 1st time we interact (iirc it was req and I called him “hangover" or something). And a calm player that can suffer the newbies questions. +1

I know this guy! He’s got a lot of experience, and he’s also a cool dude who doesn’t get all angry serious all the time. Haven’t played xeno much, so I can’t speak for SID, but on marine side he’s a great roleplayer too. I think he’d be a good mentor.

+1, you dirty criminal.

I would +1 but the main thing holding me back is the lack of doctor hours, and one of the most frequent mhelps we get is about surgeries, chemisty, and the like.

If you could get some solid doctor knowledge you’d make a great mentor. While this application is up, it could be best to get some doctor hours in, and post a screenshot of the updated hours?

Also, here’s some doctor related questions. No pressure to answers these soon, but if you would like to, answer them as if you’re answering an Mhelp yourself.

1: Help!!! It’s my first time playing doc and I don’t know how to remove larba?
2: Hey, I’m in the chemline and someone is asking for Tricord pills, how do I make those?
3: So I’m trying to give someone a new limb, but they can’t move it after I attached it on, am I missing a step?
4: I’ve got a patient with a spear lodged into them, but it won’t let me take it out with a knife or scapel. How do I remove it?
5: What’s this Eschar stuff? How do I fix it?

Hey! Solid Copy on the doctor hours, but lemme take a crack at this!

1: “Hey there! First, take a quick breath, you still have plenty of time to remove a larva from a marine! First thing you’ll want to do is move them into an operating room and place them on an operating table by grabbing them, and dragging their body onto the table. After, you’ll want to remove their armour and make sure you’re targeting the chest for surgery! If they’re still standing up, grab them again and drag them onto the table a second time, this should officially put them under! If that doesn’t work, just ask them to lie down! If you’re strapped for time, you can also give them a shot of oxycodone and just get right in!

There’s a button in the top left of your screen that has a scalpel and a sheet on it, that you’ll want to make sure is selected, if it has a green outline around it, you’re golden! You’ll be able to find all the tools you’ll need in the surgery trays in the operating rooms, don’t be afraid to ask your fellow doctors for help locating tools with :m on the radio! You’ll want to use the incision management system first, make sure you’re on help intent or else you’ll just hit them! Then you’ll want to use a bone saw and a retractor to open the rib cage, afterwards, you’ll want to use the PICT system to officially yank the larva out! Then you want to close the rib cage with the retractor and apply some bone gel! And then finally close the incision with a cauterizer! You can toss them in the scanner afterwards to see what else is wrong with them!

You can see this surgery and others at Surgery - CM-SS13 - Wiki. Have a great round!”

2: “Heya! You can make Tricordazine by combining Innaprovaline and Dylovene in the Chem Dispenser! First you’ll need to find a beaker and put it in the machine itself, afterwards, once you click it, you should see a bunch of buttons from which you can add various chemicals to the beaker. To make innaprovaline you’ll need to combine:

1 part Oxygen
1 part Carbon
1 part Sugar

This will make 3 units worth of Innaprovaline. Then you’ll have to make Dylovene, which is:

1 part Silicon
1 part Potassium
1 part Nitrogen

Same deal as innaprovaline, it’ll also make 3 units!

Once you mix the both of these together, you’ll make Tricordazine!

You can put this in the Chem-Master machine and use it to create Tricord pills of whatever size and amount you’d like. It’s generally advisable to keep the pills around 15 units, as you don’t want to overdose marines! You can find the full guide to chemistry here, at Chemistry - CM-SS13 - Wiki! Have a great round!”

3: “Hey there! Double check to ensure that the limb is tightened with a hemostat, or your hand, and calibrate it with an empty hand using help intent! You can see the full process here, at Surgery - CM-SS13 - Wiki! Specifically in the level two surgeries tab! Have a great round!”

4: “Heya! To take out an object that’s embedded in someone, you simply have to right click on them and scroll down to the, Yank Out Object command. Use a free hand, and you’ll get that spear out in no time. Of course, it’ll usually fall out in time too if you can’t spare the time standing still! There’s also the surgical way to do it, which would be using the Incision Management System, then a hemostat, and then a cauterizer on the affected body part, which you can read about here, Surgery - CM-SS13 - Wiki under level one surgeries! Have a great round!”

5: “Hey there! Eschars are basically fractures, but for burn damage! They cause a decent amount of pain and keep you slightly damaged unless they are healed. You can fix them by using either the incision management system, or a scalpel, hemostat, and retractor, to open the eschar’d area, you can then use the incision management system again, or a scalpel. Then, you use synth-graft (The Orange Spool), and then finally, a cauterizer to close the wound! You can see the steps in Surgery - CM-SS13 - Wiki under level one surgeries! Have a great round!”

Apologies if any of these are a little lacking! And of course I’ll definitely be playing more doctor when I can, unfortunately, I’m being sent back to the mines for half a month tomorrow!

So I’ve noticed a few mistakes here, I’ll point them out as I go.

You’ll want to use the incision management system first, make sure you’re on help intent or else you’ll just hit them! Then you’ll want to use a bone saw and a retractor to open the rib cage, afterwards, you’ll want to use the PICT system to officially yank the larva out!

Shipside medical does NOT have access to the Incision management system unless someone groundside finds it. You’d need to walk them through opening an incision regularly. Also you use the PICT system to cut the roots of the larva, not remove it. You use a hemostat (or bare hands) to remove the larva itself.

Heya!

You can put this in the Chem-Master machine and use it to create Tricord pills of whatever size and amount you’d like. It’s generally advisable to keep the pills around 15 units

While technically correct, this is a really ineffecient way to do it, as the Wey-chem stocks innaprovaline and dyvolene bottles, meaning you only have to mix those two together in equal amounts in the large beaker that comes with each chemaster.

Again, getting some practical experience will help a lot with mhelps, as the wiki is very technical in this aspect, and doesn’t give you the practical day to day use of an item, chemical, etc. I should also say that you don’t need to link the CM wiki in every mhelp, I personally only do for topics like paperwork that have a lot of extra stuff about them, like templates.

I’ll be holding back my +1 for now, but do post your updated doctor hours when you can!

Sounds good! Thanks for the quick response time!

It’ll be very good to have a mentor who’s strong in queen and xenomorph roles, new players struggle enough as-is with xenomorph. I’m sure Ac*tylene will be a great mentor, even if he’s a noob at runner whose sole purpose in life is to feed the bloodlust of PVTs and their M37s.

I personally think the relatively weak Doctor hours aren’t much of an issue given the overwhelming majority of mentors are cracked doctors, whereas there’s not an awful lot of veteran xenos who are mentors.

Someone has to show the PVTs how to kill xenos. Trust.

Woaw it’s been a year since I first looked at this. AHAHAHHAHAHA.
Anyways, approved. I did note some pretty large bits of inactivity spanning back for a few months as well, do be aware I semi-frequently* check activity and remove inactive mentors.
