Mentor Application - EmpressEri

Of course!

First of all, with what WestRover was talking about with my temper, sometimes (mostly when playing surv) I do get frustrated at the game. Never at other players, and never take that frustration outside of Dchat. CM can just be frustrating sometimes, especially in roles like surv, but it would never impact my duties as a mentor.

As for the questions:

1: (this depends what type of Ravager they are), Hi! It’s because of the passive abilities of your Ravager strain. (for hedgehog) Whenever you activate spike shield, it makes you glow blue for marines to see. (for regular rav) It’s because when you use empower, it glows depending on how empowered you are, based on how many marines are in eyesight when you use it. (for beserker) Your passives can sometimes cause it to glow, based on various factors, mostly from when you slash.
2: The best way to cap is with help from your fellow xenos! A very easy way is working with a carrier so that you have eggs or hugger traps nearby to drag marines on. Once a marine is hugged, it’s much easier to bring them to the hive and nest them. Capping is also a lot easier if you have another xeno helping you tackle marines, since RNG doesn’t typically favour you when tackling a marine by yourself.
3: The best way is just building more thick resin walls behind the line that is currently being pushed, and filling in any gaps marines make. You can also make two tile thick walls in between the doors, with the second tile sticking out, but this might be a bit too risky to do while marines are pushing them.
4. The larva queue can prioritise people who have just joined the queue, as well as other factors. (I don’t know the exact workings of the larva queue myself).
5. Crushers and other T3’s are strong enough to entirely get rid of reinforced walls, which you might have noticed are much harder to get rid of. You can simply slash reinforced walls, and eventually get rid of them entirely, should you wish.
6. The King is a special caste that xenos get in a similar way to how marines get a nuke. It’s sometimes called a Xuke because of this. It’s meant to be a tiebreaker for xenos, and is very strong, buffs xenos around it, and has some very cool abilities.

Human questions:

  1. First of all, you’ll need an autolathe to make a camera assembly, because it cannot be crafted normally like you would make a cade. You’ll also need to feed metal and glass into the autolathe if it’s empty. Once you have a camera assembly, place it on the tile you’d like it to be on. Once done, wrench, then weld, then apply cable coil to it. Finally, make sure to screwdriver the unfinished camera. It should be done now, you just need to set a network so that other people can view it, say CIC, and then set a direction you want it watching!
  2. CLF are indeed under marine law, and you do have the right to appeal. If the MP’s have not given you the right to appeal, you might be best off Ahelping it.
  3. As far as I know, that’s not possible with any explosives. They can be knocked around, but I’ve never heard of them pulling people in to the center of the explosion. (I don’t know CAS too well, so this is probably wrong)
  4. Simple, once the Almayer has enough fuel, you just need to multi-tool the reactors, and they should turn orange, showing they are in the process of self-destructing.
  5. (assuming this is for hijack fuel) It’s a readout of how close the marines are to successfully completing their evacuation goals. The faster the fuel pumps, the better.

Sorry for taking a while to respond, some of these questions really caught me off guard, and I had to take some time to make sure my responses would be right. Also some of them I don’t really know, like the exact specifics of the xeno queue.

Of course of course!

  1. You heal slowly on regular weeds, especially when not resting, mostly because xenos would be too strong otherwise. Hive weeds will heal you faster, and even faster is to rest on a recovery node. You could also ask some of you teammates to emit recovery pheromones to help.
  2. Pheromones are an ability you have as a drone. It should look like a dotty cloud symbol, at the top of your screen. Just click that, and an option for each pheromone should pop up.They are essentially an AOE buff for fellow xenos, at the cost of some of your plasma. Recovery pheromones increase healing for xenos near you. Warding helps xenos that are in crit, and makes it that any xenos in crit are much tougher than otherwise. Frenzy buffs fellow xeno’s slashing, and movement speed.
  3. First, you need to drag a marine to the egg, though this can be hard, because marines don’t like this! Make sure to tackle them, and then grab them with your other hand! To pin a marine to a wall, also called nesting, simply drag them up to a wall, and while grabbing them, click on it while you are next to it. When you see the red circle, you’ve done it right!

Hope these are good answers!

Eka is a very strong marine player with a solid understanding of most marine roles, and I believe they would excel in teaching these roles!!

You answered most of your questions very well! The only real error would be this one:

This one of the main gimmicks of the Dragons Breath

Mentors are not responsible for knowing every single little thing about that game, so if this was a real in-game Mhelp you could have left it to another mentor or used Mchat to ask if anyone knew the answer. You did great on all the others questions!!

I have seen you playing xeno since your application went up; can you share your most up-to-date xeno hours?

Based on your marine understanding, your answers (especially to xeno questions), and the clear effort you have put in to play more xeno I am leaving you a

Can’t say I’ve ever had a negative interaction with Eka and they were a great role model for me getting back into the game after a few years of not playing, Playing alpha SL as much as they do is basically SEA lite anyhow. +1

Hey Eka!
Your questions look okay, however I am concerned with why you want to become a mentor.
I personally find your answer unsatisfactory, and would like you to elaborate on why you want to help people. What drove you to making this forum post?
Thanks, and good luck!

why has this not been accepted yet?? hello??? +1

So I’ve been delaying this one a bit based on feedback on Discord from a few members in the Mentor Team, not sure why they didn’t voice it here given if you’re accepted it’ll be seen anyways. One of the biggest concerns basically is I’m told you can easily get ‘heated’ which I tend to see as being impatient and quicker to anger a few of the quotes being:
“I’ve been in VC with them a couple of times, and- they do get really heated…”
“In PvE especially I’ve seen them get very mad at certain players despite not doing anything particularly wrong”
"…they are a very POS CMP and warden, at least with what I have seen, and flat out ignored laws for their own satisfaction to punish those she thinks are deserving of being punished. "
"I am especially concerned because of their lack of an explanation as to why they want to be a mentor. "
“I would like to put heavy emphasis on the fact that they are an asshole for their own satisfaction, laughing with a metagroup about putting 3 intel officers in perma for an hour and thirty minutes on baseless charges.”
There’s also this screenshot:

There’s been almost no positive feedback from anyone on the team so I’m interested how you feel about what’s been said/would refute it. Temperament of mentors is pretty important to me because I also don’t need mentors running new people off.

As Cynthia did bring up earlier, I do sometimes get a bit heated. I have been working on, by doing my best to avoid roles that do actually frustrate me (Surv is the most notable one), and with PVE, I’ve been taking a break from it apart from bootlegs, which are normally more relaxed. The only times I have gotten legitimately angry at someone, is when I believe they have intentionally griefed me, which is of course Ahelped.

As for the situations you’ve listed:
1: I do get heated in VC, but i never take that frustration out on anyone in particular, usually me whining about balance admittedly. I have never straight up insulted anyone in any of the CM discords I am a part of (such as corpocord).
2: When I have gotten angry in PVE, it’s mostly because of FF. Last incident (which is why I have sort of been taking a break from PVE) was me, and several friends I managed to get play PVE for the first time, getting hit by at least 3 mortar shells on a cadeline, and 5 marines permaing because of it. I was quite frustrated at the mortar operator, because I genuinely thought they were griefing.
3: I am not sure which laws I have been said to flat out ignore, apart from minor ones which I intentionally ignore myself (though as CMP if another MP calls it out, I will help them in taking action), so I DON’T have to punish people for reasons I don’t believe are valid. I do focus more on crimes committed by my department as CMP, as one time I had to arrest two MP’s, for prevacation, for differing reasons. One of them applied a charge incorrectly, and ordered them to be set to arrest for assault, when they never actually did it. Another then NJP’D the marine wanted for assault, which is an improper use of an NJP. Thus I had both of them brigged after a lengthy conversation in my office about why and how they broke ML. After that, because of the clause in ML that states that any MP’s that are arrested for committing a major crime are to be removed from law enforcement if they are not appealed/pardoned (the CO denied both), I demoted both to essentially riflemen. Though I won’t list any names, I do remember one of the MP’s getting quite annoyed at this OOC. I also don’t play warden, i have less than 10 hours in it compared to CMP, so I am quite confused by this. Also if I had broken any laws as CMP in the past, I was never notified by admins, so I was not aware this was an issue people had with me.
4. I was busy the past few days because I was travelling away from my laptop so I hadn’t finished my draft in response to Boston’s question, but essentially I’m unsure how else I could elaborate on why I would want to be a mentor. I’ve already found myself helping a lot of people (fresh PVT’s and more experienced players alike) and would want to continue to do that in an official capacity. In essence, there isn’t too much to wanting to be a mentor than what I’ve already said.
5. I was not the CMP in that round, nor was in a “MP Meta-group” with anyone in that round. I was not the arresting officer for ANY of the IO’s initial charges (who were arrested by CMP Nina Hange for assault), I only re-brigged them when they jailbroke out of their cell. The worst I did was jokingly eating donuts outside of their cell, going on about how tasty they were. I am surprised this was brought up, truly, as the IO (who is in the discord screenshot) was showing OOC anger for this. Also the perma charges were ONLY because they JAILBROKE, and repeatedly insulted, assaulted, and generally seemed like they were doing their best to stay in the brig. I was also doing my own thing for most of the round, and didn’t interact with the IO’s until Nina requested me to the brig to complement the entire MP department for the round (they shortly jailbroke after I arrvied).

I have not personally had any negative interactions with Eka nor have I seen them act in a way ICly or OOCly that would give me concern. Additionally, from my own experiences playing with them, I do believe they have enough skill and knowledge to succeed as a mentor. So +1 from me.

That being said, if I had to put on my oldhead hat for a minute and give some advice:

  • SEA is a role that can be easy to burn out in and can be frustrating/stressful. It’s the kind of role where I would advise that if it is starting to get like that in round that you excuse yourself from whatever situation your in (and if with a PVT find someone to help them/msay for an imaginary friend) and cryo. To RP’s point, SEA is role where you need to be very mindful of not just what you are doing but also who you are doing/saying it with. No one would hold it against you (or any other mentor) for cryoing if they feel it best, but will probably feel differently if instead of cryoing you say or do something that gives new players to the server a bad image of the role or community.

  • ML knowledge is good but just remember that ML/MP/SOP mhelps and quickly go from someone asking mechanical/knowledge questions to asking the kind of questions/making the kind of statements that would be best served by asking them to ahelp.

I don’t really interact with Eka much ingame, so I can’t speak too much for her IC behavior. OOCly, though, I know Eka through her activity on Discord, and I must say that I never really noticed Eka ever getting heated or otherwise toxic towards anyone in the game. In fact, from what I have seen, she is incredibly pleasant to talk to and understanding towards others, and for that alone I’ll give her a +1.

I know Eka has played for a long time on the server, and from what I can see from the discord, she’s quite decent at the game too, and so I’m unconcerned about any competency issues on her end.
